Titans re-signed LB Tim Shaw to a three-year contract.
A core special teamer, Shaw recently visited the Lions, but drew no other reported interest in free agency. One week removed from his 28th birthday, Shaw played all of two snaps on defense in 2011. He's notched 43 tackles in 32 games the past two seasons. Mon, Apr 2, 2012 11:16:00 AM

Date:

Free agent LB Tim Shaw will reportedly visit the Lions early next week.

Shaw has been one of the top special teams tacklers in the league with the Bears and Titans over the past few seasons. He's purely a backup on defense.

Titans claimed LB Tim Shaw off waivers from the Bears.

Shaw, 26, set a Bears franchise record with 30 special teams stops in 2009. He'll work in a similar role for Tennessee, but won't contribute on defense.

Bears waived LB Tim Shaw.

Jerry Angelo tried to trade shaw, but the idea was never realistic. No one trades for pure special teamers. Shaw, though, may get claimed on waivers.

Updating a previous item, the Bears are trying to trade LB Tim Shaw before they release him.

A report on Friday indicated that Shaw had been released, but it turned out to be premature. Shaw set a franchise record with 30 special-teams tackles last year, so the Bears are shopping him to teams in need of a coverage ace.

Bears waived LBs Tim Shaw, Kelvin Smith, and Kevin Malast.

Shaw wasn't a factor on defense, but he was one of the league's premier special teamers last year. His release is a reminder that NFL teams take an "easy come, easy go" approach to special teamers. Malast was undrafted out of Rutgers in 2009. Smith has been a camp body in several locales over the past few seasons.

Bears re-signed exclusive rights free agent LB Tim Shaw to a one-year contract.

Shaw, 26, doesn't play defense, but has established himself as one of the game's top special teamers. He's very likely to be among Chicago's final 53.

Bears signed LB Tim Shaw, formerly of the Jaguars.

Ideally, he'll take on the special teams duties Hunter Hillenmeyer will leave behind now that he's starting at middle linebacker. The Bears need to get Jamar Williams healthy. Ultimately, he may prove their best option inside.

The Bears plan to sign free agent LB Tim Shaw pending a physical, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Chicago could easily sign two linebackers this week, so Shaw's addition doesn't rule out a Derrick Brooks move. Shaw is not an option on defense.

In addition to Derrick Brooks, the Bears are considering signing free agent LBs Tim Shaw and Khary Campbell after losing Brian Urlacher for '09.

While Brooks could start at weak-side linebacker eventually, Campbell and Shaw are strictly special teams options. Signing either of the latter two would indicate that Chicago is comfortable starting Hunter Hillenmeyer inside.

Jaguars signed LB Tim Shaw, formerly of the Panthers.

Shaw was cut in training camp despite finishing second on Carolina in special teams stops in 2007. That will also be his main role for the Jags.

Panthers signed fourth-round LB Tim Shaw to a four-year contract. The deal includes a $159,000 signing bonus.

Shaw is somewhat undersized but has great speed and proved at Penn State that he can hurry the passer. He'll back up the strong side as a rookie.
