Saints signed TE Derek Schouman and WR Marques Clark.
A 2009 knee injury has derailed Schouman's career after he started 15 games for the Bills in 2008. He was out of the league last season. A Henderson State star back in 2005-06, Clark played for the California Football Alliance's National City Bears last season. Needless to say, he's the longest of long shots. Schouman has some versatility and at one time was pegged as Buffalo's starter. But injuries crippled him and he's drawn little interest on the open market over the last two years. Schouman is insurance for Chris Cooley's knee.

Bills TE Derek Schouman is out 3-6 weeks after sustaining a knee injury in Thursday's preseason game.

"It’s going to be a while," said coach Chan Gailey. "Guy can’t catch a break." Schouman missed much of the offseason while recovering from surgery to repair a knee injury sustained early last season. It's not known if the current injury is related.

The Bills extended an original pick tender to restricted free agent TE Derek Schouman.

Bills placed TE Derek Schouman on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Schouman expressed initial optimism on Monday, but the MRI must have shown a torn ligament. The Bills' starter was on his way to a career game when he had his leg bent underneath his body in Week 2. Rookie Shawn Nelson will see a much larger role with Schouman out and Derek Fine battling a hamstring injury.

Bills TE Derek Schouman expressed optimism about his knee after being carted off the field in Sunday's win.

Initial tests revealed no torn ligaments, which is a pleasant surprise after his leg bent backwards and underneath his body on a tackle. It's believed that Schouman has a sprain that could keep him out for a few weeks, which means rookie Shawn Nelson will fill in.

Bills starting TE Derek Schouman is expected to split snaps with Derek Fine this year.

The Buffalo News calls Schouman No. 1A and Fine No. 1B, with Shawn Nelson being groomed to take over as the future starter. None of the Bills tight ends are worth drafting this year, save deep Dynasty leagues.

Third-year pro Derek Schouman is expected to start for the Bills at tight end in Week 1.

Schouman, a former seventh-round pick, is the most versatile of the Bills' tight ends, while rookie Shawn Nelson is the best pass-catcher. Derek Fine also figures to be in the mix as a blocker as the team replace Robert Royals. Maybe if the team combined all three into one player they'd have something useful.
