Chargers OT Mario Henderson has gotten his weight down to 333 after reporting to the team in April weighing 390.
Henderson admits he weighed 383 when he was released by the Raiders following last year's lockout. He spent the season out of football and didn't begin shaping up until the 2012 offseason conditioning program. With 28 career starts at age 27, Henderson will compete for San Diego's swing tackle job in camp. Wed, Jul 4, 2012 07:39:00 PM

Chargers signed OT Mario Henderson to a one-year contract.

The 27-year-old Henderson made 28 starts across his first four NFL seasons with Oakland before sitting out all of 2011 due to conditioning problems. Henderson won't be assured of a roster spot in San Diego, but if he doesn't make it the reasoning won't be god-given talent. He'd ideally be a swing tackle behind starting LT Jared Gaither and RT Jeromey Clary.

The Union-Tribune San Diego reports the Chargers are prepared to "move in a different direction" if a deal isn't soon finalized with free agent OT Mario Henderson.

Henderson posted on his Facebook page Wednesday that he'd be playing for the Chargers this season, but has yet to agree to terms. Drawing no other known interest, he's likely mulling a "take it or leave it" offer from the Bolts. He'd be foolish to "leave it" after sitting out for all of 2011 after having a one-year deal with the Raiders nullified because he was out of shape.

Free agent OT Mario Henderson posted on his Facebook page that he will be playing for the Chargers in 2012.

The signing hasn't been reported or confirmed by the team. Henderson can play both tackle spots, and could be a useful swing tackle if he's in shape. He would have been in the NFL last season if he'd have kept up his conditioning.

The Chargers are in contract talks with free agent OT Mario Henderson.

Henderson, 27, was out of football last year after reporting to Raiders camp out of shape following the lockout. He'd be worth a kick of the tires.

Free agent OT Mario Henderson lost a potential contract with the Raiders when he showed up out of shape.

Henderson had agreed to a one-year, $1.7 million contract as a reserve tackle, but that was nullified for being overweight at his physical. He's not good enough to tell opportunity to go away when it knocks. The Raiders essentially gave Stephon Heyer the contract slated to go to Henderson.

The Bills hosted free agent OT Mario Henderson on Monday.

Henderson isn't a good player, and he was arrested in March on gun charges. The Bills may simply be "kicking tires" or "doing due diligence." This is one of the rare instances when the lineman available isn't an upgrade for Buffalo.

Fox Sports' Adam Caplan thinks free agent Mario Henderson will likely be the Raiders' starting right tackle if he's re-signed this summer.

Henderson began 2010 as the Raiders' starting left tackle before giving way to rookie Jared Veldheer. Incumbent right tackle Langston Walker, also a free agent, is thought to be considering retirement.

Free agent OT Mario Henderson was arrested Thursday in Florida on charges of carrying a concealed firearm.

After being pulled over for loud music, Henderson admitted to the officer that he had a gun in the vehicle. He's not licensed to carry a concealed firearm, which was a problem when the gun was found next to his seat instead of in the glovebox as he indicated. The Raiders failed to extend a tender to Henderson before the end of the last CBA. He'll take the offseason incident into free agency.

Mario Henderson is virtually locked in as the Raiders' starting left tackle.

On draft night, coach Tom Cable hinted that the Raiders would have taken Oklahoma tackle Trent Williams or Oklahoma State tackle Russell Okung if they were available at No. 8 overall. However, those rookies likely would have been installed on the right side. Jason Campbell and the Raiders sorely need Henderson to bounce back this season after allowing the third-most sacks in the league last year.

Raiders starting left tackle Mario Henderson is impressing at Raiders camp.

That's good news for JaMarcus Russell and Jeff Garcia, as Henderson will be protecting their blind side. Henderson shut down pass rushers like Mario Williams and Richard Seymour in December last season and is building off it.

Mario Henderson will open training camp as the Raiders starting left tackle.

Henderson improved throughout last season and was solid down the stretch. Ex-Jaguar starter Khalif Barnes is around for insurance if Henderson struggles in preseason action.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus revealed on his Twitter page that Raiders LT Mario Henderson has signed with Rosenhaus Sports.

Henderson, penciled in as the Raiders' starting left tackle ahead of Khalif Barnes, has two years remaining on his rookie deal. He'll surely angle for a contract extension next offseason if he keeps the position all year.

LT Mario Henderson and RT Cornell Green opened minicamp as starters on the Raiders first-team offense.

Free agent signing Khalif Barnes is expected to compete for a starting role, but for now is behind Henderson, who was solid in the closing weeks of the '08 season. Erik Pears is set to backup Green on the other side. C Samson Satele remains out of action following shoulder surgery.

Raiders coach Tom Cable says he feels "pretty good" about entering the 2009 season with Mario Henderson at left tackle.

"He didn't allow a sack in the last three weeks," Cable noted. "He played very, very well." Henderson is more athletically cut out to play right tackle, but Oakland may pass on an OT early in the draft after his solid finish.
