ESPN New York reports "there have been rumors about possible interest" from the Jets in free agent Brandon Lloyd.
The Jets are looking for an experienced receiver, and they have been linked to Ramses Barden, Josh Cribbs, and Braylon Edwards. Lloyd, 32 in July, hasn't generated an ounce of interest since being released by the Patriots nearly two months ago, but he's clearly the best receiver of the four. He'd be solid veteran insurance should Santonio Holmes not bounce back from his foot injury. May 8 - 9:37 PM

ESPN's John Clayton "would be surprised" if free agent WR Brandon Lloyd doesn't have a job in the next week or two.

We're not so sure. Lloyd, who will turn 32 in July, hasn't generated a flicker of interest since the Patriots cut him on March 16. There's a ton of stink attached to his resume after playing for six different teams in 10 seasons, and he reportedly irked some people inside the Pats with his offbeat personality. Moreover, Lloyd can't make anyone miss after the catch and no longer can stretch the field. He may end up waiting around until camp before getting a shot at a roster spot.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport would be "beyond shocked" if the Patriots re-signed free agent Brandon Lloyd.

So would the Boston Globe's Greg A. Bedard. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in early March that Lloyd would be amenable to returning to the Pats at a discounted rate, but the interest isn't mutual after Lloyd underproduced on the field last season and was a locker-room lawyer off of it. Lloyd hasn't drawn a whiff of interest since being cut loose on March 16.
Apr 10 - 2:36 PM

The Vikings have not expressed interest in free agent Brandon Lloyd since his Saturday release.

A Vikings-Lloyd union makes some sense on paper, but GM Rick Spielman may be wary of Lloyd's manic behavior having a negative effect on Christian Ponder. The Vikings are set at two receiver spots with Greg Jennings outside and Jarius Wright in the slot. They may look to upgrade on Jerome Simpson in April's draft.
Mar 17 - 2:10 PM

Patriots released WR Brandon Lloyd.

The move had been rumored for weeks. 31-year-old Lloyd didn't have a bad statistical season in his lone year with the Patriots (74/911/4), but his reportedly "erratic behavior" led some in the organization to believe he may be bipolar. Worse, Lloyd didn't stretch the field in New England and has never created yards after the catch. Lloyd, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and Julian Edelman are now at the top of a stripped-down free-agent receiver market.
Mar 16 - 3:22 PM

CSN New England's Tom Curran reports Brandon Lloyd's chances of being with the Patriots after today are "50-50."

The Patriots owe Lloyd a $3 million roster bonus that will almost certainly not be picked up, but sides could still work out a restructured contract, or even push the bonus back. New England is also considering signing Steelers restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet.
Mar 16 - 10:18 AM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter Friday that Brandon Lloyd is willing to return to the Patriots on a reduced contract.

Lloyd has a $3 million bonus due Saturday. "They signed Donald Jones, they have Emmanuel Sanders (at club headquarters), and they've gotta make a decision on Brandon Lloyd," Schefter explained. "He's got a $3 million roster bonus. Brandon Lloyd would like to work out a restructured deal. And the two sides, it is my understanding, have spoken about that. Brandon Lloyd could end up staying on in New England at some type of reduced deal."
Mar 15 - 12:14 PM

The Patriots must make a decision on Brandon Lloyd's $3 million option bonus by March 16.

It's a little earlier than expected, and means Lloyd will hit the open market no later than the first week of free agency if the Pats decide to move on, as expected. Despite an underwhelming 2012, Lloyd shouldn't hurt for one-year offers.
Mar 1 - 12:49 PM

The player rep for Brandon Lloyd has not had any communication with the Patriots this offseason.

Lloyd's $3 million option bonus isn't due until the end of March, so the Patriots have plenty of time. CSN New England reported Wednesday that they're expected to cut ties with the only receiver on their roster with legit NFL experience, leaving behind Matthew Slater, Kamar Aiken, Jeremy Ebert and Andre Holmes. It's a horrible sign for Lloyd that his biggest supporter, Josh McDaniels, can't save him despite a meager $1.9 million 2013 base salary.
Feb 28 - 9:51 AM

A source tells CSN New England that Brandon Lloyd is not in the Patriots' plans for 2013.

One year after signing a three-year, $12 million contract, Lloyd is on the verge of getting cut. Per beat writer Tom Curran, Lloyd isn't even listed on the organization's projected 2013 depth chart. It's a surprise after Lloyd came on very strong late in the season, compiling 36 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns over the final six games (including playoffs). CSN New England cites "an enigmatic personality, aversion to physical contact, inability to find a consistent niche in the offense and financial disposability" as reasons for the breakup. The Pats will be in the market for an outside receiver even if they get free agent Wes Welker under contract.
Feb 27 - 12:57 PM

A team source tells the Boston Globe that Brandon Lloyd's "erratic behavior in the locker room and on the practice field" bothered the Patriots last season.

According to the Globe's Greg A. Bedard, the odds are "against" the Patriots exercising Lloyd's $3 million option bonus. It's not the first time Lloyd's behavior has been called into question, as a Broncos source told the Globe last March that Lloyd "wasn’t a good teammate," and there were times "people in the building thought he may be bipolar." Cutting Lloyd would clear $4.9 million in cap space, but leave behind $2 million in dead money.
Feb 26 - 4:05 PM

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss says Brandon Lloyd isn't a "lock" to return to the Patriots in 2013.

Lloyd's base salary is just $1.9 million, but New England holds a $3 million option bonus. If the Pats cut Lloyd after June 1, they would endure a $1 million cap hit in 2013 and 2014. New England may not view the soon-to-be 32-year-old worth that much money with other needs to address. Lloyd had an underwhelming first season with the team, catching 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns. The Patriots are expected to overhaul an aging receiver group this offseason.

Jan 31 - 2:05 PM

Brandon Lloyd caught seven passes for 70 yards in the Patriots' AFC title game loss to the Ravens.

It was a good day on paper for the Patriots' No. 2 receiver, though he hauled in only half of his 14 targets, and offered embarrassingly little after the catch. The vast majority of Lloyd's grabs were catch-and-fall affairs. That, of course, was the case during the regular season for the 31-year-old veteran, who was 115th in the league with 180 yards after the catch. Lloyd is still a useful player, but his best fantasy days are behind him. Signed for just $4.9 million between salary and bonuses in 2013, Lloyd should be back with the Patriots.
Jan 20 - 10:27 PM

Brandon Lloyd caught five passes for 32 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Divisional round victory over the Texans.

Lloyd rebounded from a suspect and costly personal conduct penalty to become the 20th different player to catch a postseason touchdown pass from Tom Brady. He also came up big with a key first-down reception early in the fourth quarter. Even with Rob Gronkowski out, Lloyd is a clear third in the receiving pecking order entering the AFC Championship game versus the Ravens.
Jan 13 - 8:38 PM

Brandon Lloyd (knee) played a season-low 31 offensive snaps in Week 17 versus the Dolphins.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss notes that Lloyd's knee was a bigger question mark on Sunday than it had been in recent weeks. Coupled with the fact that the Patriots were up large, New England played it safe with the 31-year-old receiver. The team secured a first-round bye for the playoffs, so it should give Lloyd ample time to heal up. It will be a situation to keep an eye on, even though we still expect Bill Belichick to be vague with his injury reports.
