Saints agreed to terms with S Paul Oliver, formerly of the Chargers.

The cornerback turned safety will take the place of a similar player in Usama Young, who signed with Cleveland. Oliver started eight games as an injury fill-in at strong safety last year, but he's better suited to the reserve role he'll play in New Orleans.

A source tells Pro Football Weekly that Paul Oliver may be the odd man out in San Diego's secondary.

The Chargers have quite the logjam, with Darrell Stuckey, Steve Gregory, recently signed Bob Sanders and second and third round picks Marcus Gilchrist and Shareece Wright. GM A.J. Smith would also like to re-sign Eric Weddle, meaning Oliver could be without a job. Depending on the new CBA, Oliver could become an unrestricted free agent.

Paul Oliver is expected to take over as the Chargers' starting strong safety during Steve Gregory's four-game suspension.

It's a highly productive position, so Oliver is worth grabbing in at least deep IDP formats. Rookie Darrell Stuckey will probably be in the mix on early downs, however, and could make it an even rotation before Gregory returns.

The NFL will not hold a supplemental draft in 2008 due to a lack of participants.

There were rumors that USC ILB Rey Maualuga, Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew, and Mississippi State OT Michael Brown might apply, but they decided against it. Maualuga has a chance to be a top-15 pick in next year's draft. Chargers DB Paul Oliver and Ravens OT Jared Gaither were the only players selected in last year's supplemental draft.

The Chargers have transitioned 2007 supplemental pick Paul Oliver to safety.

He'll also work as a dime back behind Antonio Cromartie, Quentin Jammer, and Antoine Cason, though Cletis Gordon remains in the running for that job.

The Chargers might move 2007 supplemental pick Paul Oliver to safety.

Oliver (5'11/195) could back up Eric Weddle at free safety. The Bolts need a new nickel back with Drayton Florence leaving. Oliver may fill that role.

Chargers signed supplemental rookie CB Paul Oliver to a four-year contract.

Oliver was the highest player picked in July's Supplemental Draft. He's San Diego's nickel back of the future, when Drayton Florence moves on in 2008 and Antonio Cromartie enters the starting lineup opposite Quentin Jammer.

Chargers selected Georgia CB Paul Oliver in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Supplemental Draft.

This is probably a clear sign that the Bolts will allow Drayton Florence to play out his walk year and test the free agent market in 2008. Oliver is a physical corner with only marginal speed and size. As a rookie, he'll likely compete with Cletis Gordon and Steve Gregory to be the Chargers' dime back.

If the Patriots make a selection in Thursday's Supplemental Draft, it will be Georgia CB Paul Oliver, according to the Boston Herald.

Maryland OT Jared Gaither is apparently not on New England's radar despite left tackle Matt Light's declining play. The Pats have a ton of cornerbacks on their roster but are always looking to make talent upgrades. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers are interested in both players.

The Chargers are reportedly interested in Georgia CB Paul Oliver.

Drayton Florence is entering the final year of his contract and the Bolts have suspect depth after nickel cornerback Antonio Cromartie. AOL Sports' Michael David Smith says Oliver could go as high as the second round in the Supplemental Draft despite his mediocre Pro Day showing.

Georgia CB Paul Oliver measured 5-10 and 5/8 at his Pro Day Wednesday.

Oliver was listed at 6-0/205 in college. From a measurables standpoint, Oliver doesn't appear likely to be a first-day supplemental draft selection.

The Falcons and Chargers have already set up meetings with CB Paul Oliver, who is hoping to be selected in July's NFL Supplemental Draft.

Neither plays the Cover 2. Oliver's unimpressive Pro Day still doesn't mean teams won't give him a look. He's a projected third- or fourth-round choice.

Georgia CB Paul Oliver ran his forty in the 4.5-4.58 range at his Pro Day, according to Scout.com. His vertical was 33.5 inches.

Oliver has size to help overcome the lack of long speed, but these numbers aren't that impressive. It's possible he'll get a look from Cover 2 teams or even as a free safety. Oliver shut down Calvin Johnson in November, but probably won't go any higher than the third round next month.

The 49ers will attend Georgia CB Paul Oliver's Pro Day on June 20.

Either personnel chief Scott McCloughan or his brother David, the Niners' director of college scouting, will represent the team. The 49ers have a good group of corners and probably wouldn't use a first-day supplemental pick. The Bills will also attend and are much more needy at the position.
