Bucs released RB D.J. Ware.
Ware, 28, toted the rock 11 times for 51 yards in spot duty as Tampa Bay's No. 2 back last season. He added 14 catches for 100 yards. Ware's release saves the Bucs $750,000 against the salary cap. A fine third-down back who can pick up the blitz, Ware should get another look from a running back-needy team. Apr 4 - 5:48 PM

Bucs signed RB D.J. Ware, formerly of the Giants.

Ware also reportedly received interest from the Raiders and Seahawks, but opted to join former Giants QBs coach Mike Sullivan in Tampa. A savvy pickup because he already knows the ins and outs of Sullivan's system, Ware can play on passing downs and get most of the yardage blocked by his offensive line. No. 2 back LeGarrette Blount is incapable of doing the former, so the Bucs are now protected in case every-down back Doug Martin gets injured. Sullivan would turn to a Ware-Blount committee if the Bucs lost their lead back.

Giants released RB D.J. Ware.

Ware, a strong pass protector but poor runner, had been in the mix for both third-down and goal-line work. In 16 games last season, he rushed 46 times for 163 yards and added 27 catches for 170 yards. Ware's release opens up a handful more receiving opportunities for both starter Ahmad Bradshaw and impressive first-round rookie David Wilson. Andre Brown and special teamer Da'Rel Scott round out the depth chart.

ESPN New York believes RB D.J. Ware is on the roster bubble.

Ware's stock has been all over the board this preseason. He's an unimpressive runner, but his ability to protect the passer makes him a good third-down fit. It looks like Ware and Andrew Brown are battling for one roster spot. Da'Rel Scott is likely to stick as a core special teamer. Regardless, David Wilson's stock continues to rise.

Coach Tom Coughlin said that D.J. Ware's role will "not necessarily" change following David Wilson's breakout preseason.

Coughlin is just being stubborn here. It's clear that Wilson, a first-round pick, has earned the promotion by rushing 20 times for 118 yards (5.90 YPC) and hauling in four passes for 52 yards through three tuneups. Ware has 17 carries for 49 yards (2.88 YPC). Wilson is the handcuff and change-of-pace option behind starter Ahmad Bradshaw.

D.J. Ware failed to impress in Friday's preseason game against the Bears, rushing once for four yards while adding a catch for three yards.

Ware and Andre Brown rotated snaps after first-round pick David Wilson started in place of Ahmad Bradshaw and put on a show. Ware was supposedly in the mix for goal-line and short-yardage carries, but that's clearly not the case. He'll enter the Giants' preseason finale with 17 rushes for 49 yards and a score. He didn't catch a pass in the first two games. Brown has 16 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown, and two catches for six yards.

The Star-Ledger suggests D.J. Ware could serve as the Giants' goal-line and power back.

At 6'0/225, Ware profiles well for the job. However, starter Ahmad Bradshaw handled goal-line duties well last season as he racked up six touchdowns in goal-to-go situations. He'll probably get the first crack, with Ware waiting in the wings now that that Brandon Jacobs is out of the picture.

ESPN New York believes D.J. Ware has the edge on rookie David Wilson to open the season as Ahmad Bradshaw's backup.

It's too early to predict with any level of certainty until training camp. Ware already has the coaching staff's trust on third downs, but Wilson offers far more talent in the change-of-pace role. Ware and Brandon Jacobs each played roughly 25 percent of the snaps last year compared to Bradshaw at just under 50 percent. It's fair to suggest Ware and Wilson will split half the snaps in 2012.

Giants RB D.J. Ware returned to a limited practice on Thursday.

Ware declared himself "normal, normal, normal" after being cleared for football activities. He has sustained at least four concussions in the past three years, including two within the past three months. Ware has been working as the Giants' third-down back.

Giants RB D.J. Ware left Sunday's Wild Card round game in the third quarter with a concussion.

It's unclear when the concussion occurred. Ware had two touches for 17 yards prior to the injury. He's a third-down back and special teams player.

D.J. Ware rushed two times for 19 yards in New York's Week 17 win over the Cowboys, adding one catch for eight yards.

Ware finishes 2011 with just 46 carries for 163 yards, 27 catches for 170 yards and zero touchdowns. He touched the ball only 14 times after Ahmad Bradshaw's Week 13 return. Under contract for $650,000 in 2012, it's doubtful Ware will be anything other than a third-stringer.

D.J. Ware was held out of Giants practice Wednesday with a knee injury.

With just nine touches in three games since Ahmad Bradshaw returned from his foot injury, Ware is off the redraft radar for the final two weeks of the season.

D.J. Ware played in Week 12 after a concussion had him listed as 'probable,' and finished with five rushes for 23 yards and eight catches for 45 yards through the air.

As the game deteriorated into an uncontested pinball match, Ware was there to collect garbage stats in the fourth quarter. Projecting any fantasy value for him is a stretch, even if Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) misses more time.

D.J. Ware (concussion) is listed as probable for Week 12.

Ware will be active against the Saints. Serving as Brandon Jacobs' primary backup with Ahmad Bradshaw out the past three games, Ware has been ineffective, carrying the ball 19 times for just 54 yards. Even with Bradshaw out again this week, Ware is off the fantasy radar.

Giants RB D.J. Ware (concussion) returned to a limited practice on Thursday.

It's a great sign for Ware, as he's sustained a concussion in each of the past three seasons. If Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) is held out again this week, Ware could be active as Brandon Jacobs' backup.
