Matt Prater has made 12-of-16 career field goals from 50-plus yards.
The 75 percent conversion rate is the best in NFL history. Prater is also a remarkable 28-for-29 on field goals attempted during the fourth quarter or overtime during his career. With the thin air in Denver and Peyton Manning bringing a pass-first attack to town, Prater is certainly on the fantasy radar. Wed, Jul 4, 2012 08:13:00 AM

Broncos K Matt Prater's new four-year deal is worth a total of $13 million, and includes a $3 million signing bonus.

Prater's average annual salary of $3.25 million makes him the fifth highest paid kicker in the NFL. With one of the league's biggest legs in an offense now being led by Peyton Manning, Prater is Rotoworld's No. 12 kicker for 2012.

Broncos agreed to terms with franchise player K Matt Prater on a four-year contract.

Financial terms are currently unavailable, but Prater is expected to make over $3 million per season. One of the stars of the Tim Tebow show last season, Prater drained four "walkoff" field goals, and converted 3-of-4 kicks from beyond 50 yards. He finished a disappointing 30th in kicker fantasy points, but that figures to change in a big way with Peyton Manning in town. If you're into drafting a kicker in fantasy football, Prater will be one to target in 2012.

The Broncos and franchise player K Matt Prater are "not far apart" on a long-term contract.

The organization's latest proposal would pay Prater more than $3 million per season, which would bring him in line with the top handful of kickers in the NFL. The sides have until July 16 to strike a deal, or Prater will play under the $2.64 million franchise tag.

Unsigned Broncos franchise player K Matt Prater is not expected to attend this week's minicamp.

Unlike Maurice Jones-Drew, Prater can't be fined for not attending the mandatory workouts since he isn't under contract. The sides are working on a five-year deal, and should reach an agreement before the July 16 deadline.

The Broncos are working on a five-year extension with unsigned franchise player K Matt Prater.

Per the Denver Post, the extension figures to average more than $3 million per season. The two sides are reportedly close enough that Prater could be signed in time to participate in next week's mandatory minicamp. If no long-term deal is reached, Prater will be forced to play out the season for $2.6 million.

The Broncos are making progress on a long-term deal with unsigned franchise player K Matt Prater.

Prater has been skipping offseason activities, but sounds like he'll be under contract by June's minicamp. If no long-term deal is reached by the July 16 deadline, Prater will be guaranteed $2.6 million under the franchise tag.

Unsigned franchise player Matt Prater is sitting out offseason workouts.

As is disgruntled DT Ty Warren, whom the Broncos want to take a pay cut. Unlike Warren, Prater isn't under contract and therefore not required to attend OTAs and minicamps. "There's no message. It's voluntary," Prater's agent said.

Broncos assigned the franchise tag to K Matt Prater.

The move guarantees Prater roughly $2.6 million. He joins Cleveland's Phil Dawson and Cincinnati's Mike Nugent as kickers to be tagged. Jacksonville's Josh Scobee and Tampa Bay's Connor Barth are strong candidates to join them ahead of Monday's 4PM ET deadline. Prater converted four "walkoff" field-goals in 2011, and led the NFL in touchback percentage. Since 2008, he is 12-of-16 on field-goal attempts of 50 yards or longer.

Broncos VP of Football Operations John Elway said Wednesday that his preference is to keep free agent K Matt Prater with a long-term deal rather than the franchise tag.

"We don’t want to use it," Elway said of the tag. "We’d like to get a deal done." Behind Willis McGahee and Demaryius Thomas, Prater was perhaps the Broncos' most valuable offensive player in 2011. He turns 28 before the season.

The Denver Post believes free agent K Matt Prater is the Broncos' "strongest candidate" for the franchise tag.

This jibes with a January report that the Broncos were going to be "relatively aggressive" in re-signing their kicker. Prater would stand to make roughly $2.6 million under the franchise tag after converting four "walkoff" field-goal attempts and leading the NFL in touchback percentage in 2011.

The Broncos are expected to be "relatively aggressive" in bringing back free agent K Matt Prater.

Prater was scattershot on field goals between 40 and 49 yards, but he was money from over 50 yards. More importantly, no kicker had a better percentage of kickoffs not returned than Prater's 72.5. According to Pro Football Focus, only David Akers was more valuable as a complete package.

Broncos K Matt Prater was arrested last week for drunken driving.

The arrest took place on August 2 in Greenwood Village, and he was also charged with fleeing the scene. Prater has no previous run-ins with the law as an NFL player that we're aware of, so he should be able to avoid league discipline.

Broncos re-signed K Matt Prater to a one-year contract.

Prater has missed only seven of his 53 field goal attempts over the past two seasons. Unfortunately, the Broncos' new conservative offensive philosophy will likely prevent Prater from doing much damage in fantasy leagues this year.

Free agent K Matt Prater is interested in re-signing with the Broncos.

Prater is one of the four-year veterans expected to be declared unrestricted once the CBA is finalized. With a booming leg and increasing accuracy, Prater has been one of the most valuable kickers in the league the past two seasons.
