Coats started 11 games for the Bengals in 2009, but he's mostly a special teamer and blocking specialist. The Giants needed the depth after losing both Kevin Boss and Ben Patrick.

A blocking specialist and special teamer, Coats was signed late last season as an injury fill-in. McLaughlin was a linebacker at Boston College.

Bengals re-signed TE Dan Coats.

Coats, a blocker, was forced into duty last season when the Bengals' tight ends were decimated by injury. He ended up with 16 catches for 150 yards on the year. Coats would be Cincinnati's starter if the season began today.

Coats, who moonlighted as a fullback last season, is still hobbled by an early-camp ankle injury. He landed the job due to attrition and his own blocking ability. The Bengals tight end spot is a fantasy wasteland this season.

Coats will hit restricted free agency next offseason. The former BYU tight end moved to fullback last year, started four games, and caught two passes.

Bengals second-year TE Daniel Coats is being tried at fullback.

He's a direct threat to Jeremi Johnson, who reported to OTAs overweight. Coats looks the part at 6'3/255, has excellent hands, and Tarzan strength. Johnson got an extension in 2006, but his play has since been lackluster.

Free-agent rookie TE Daniel Coats, who made the Bengals after and impressive preseason, is expected to receive some game action while backing up Reggie Kelly on Monday night.

The Bengals don't usually feature the tight end much in their passing game, but they want to try to change that this season. Coats would be someone to watch in deep leagues if Kelly were to suffer an injury.
