Chiefs DE Mike DeVito announced his retirement after nine seasons in the NFL.
"There are more important things in life than football," DeVito said in his announcement. "As hard as it is to say goodbye to the game that has made me the man I am, I cannot wait for the second half of this journey through life." Undrafted out of Maine, DeVito entered the league in 2007 with the Jets and played six seasons in New York. He made 28 appearances with the Chiefs over the last three seasons, playing a key run-stuffing role in one of the NFL's better defenses. DeVito finishes his career with 250 tackles, 5.5 sacks and six forced fumbles. Apr 11 - 8:30 AM

DeVito missed all but one game in 2014 with a ruptured Achilles' tendon, but he bounced back last season. A rotational run defender, DeVito should not cost much to retain. He will turn 32 in June.

Chiefs LE Mike DeVito left Week 6 against the Vikings with a concussion.

He's done for the game. It's bad news for a Chiefs defensive line that's already with Dontari Poe. Nick Williams replaced DeVito.

Chiefs LE Mike DeVito (Achilles') is participating in OTAs.

The Chiefs are expected to approach LE Mike DeVito about taking a pay cut.

DeVito tore his Achilles' in Week 1 and will turn 31 in June. The Chiefs are up against the cap and need to make room for free agent OLB Justin Houston either via a long-term deal or the franchise tag. DeVito is scheduled to count $5.4 million against the cap, and Kansas City can clear $4 million by releasing him. DeVito reportedly feels comfortable hitting the open market. He's a quality run defender in the 3-4 defense. The Chiefs have some depth on the defensive line.

Chiefs placed LE Mike DeVito on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

Coupled with the loss of ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles'), DeVito's injury leaves the Chiefs' run defense extremely vulnerable. The Chiefs will try to replace him with a combination of Vance Walker and Jaye Howard. Now on the wrong side of 30, DeVito is scheduled to make $3.75 million in 2015, the final year of his contract.

Chiefs LE Mike DeVito is out for the year with an Achilles' tendon tear.

The Chiefs also lost All-Pro-caliber ILB Derrick Johnson to a torn Achilles' in Sunday's embarrassing home loss to the Titans. DeVito was a critical piece in Kansas City's run defense as a two-down hole clogger. Johnson was a rangy Mike 'backer. Kansas City is no longer a defense to fear from a fantasy matchup standpoint, especially after getting picked apart by Jake Locker.

Chiefs LE Mike DeVito has been ruled out for Week 12.

It's a sizable blow to Kansas City's run defense, as DeVito is one of the NFL's premier run-stopping 3-4 ends. Upgrade Ryan Mathews' fantasy matchup.

The Chiefs plan to use new DE Mike DeVito as an early-down defender who leaves the field in the nickel package.

In other words, they'll use DeVito to his strength. "There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing," DeVito said. "I want to hit and be physical every play. If I don’t hit somebody, I know something is wrong. That first- and second-down run game, that’s where I live." The Chiefs' defensive front seven looks all set besides the inside linebacker position next to Derrick Johnson.
