Bengals released DE Derrick Harvey.
It speaks especially poorly to Harvey's camp showing that the Bengals recently lost LE Robert Geathers indefinitely following knee surgery. They'll swallow a $60,000 signing bonus to release Harvey, who was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft. Harvey's disappointing NFL tenure may be approaching its end. Bengals signed DE Derrick Harvey, formerly of the Broncos.

The eighth pick in the 2008 draft, Harvey has been a near-complete bust, managing just eight sacks in 52 career appearances. Harvey couldn't get on the field in Denver last year, and goes to Cincinnati to compete for a roster spot.

Free agent DE Derrick Harvey is visiting the Bengals on Monday.

Harvey joined TE Joel Dreessen, CB Terence Newman, and RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis in Cincinnati. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 draft, Harvey recorded just two tackles in five games with Denver last year after the Jaguars released him prior to training camp.

Broncos declared DE Derrick Harvey inactive for Monday's Week 1 game against Oakland.

Harvey, formerly of the Jaguars, wasn't able to crack the Broncos defensive line rotation after signing in early August. LB D.J. Williams, WR Demaryius Thomas, DT Ty Warren and DT Marcus Thomas were all ruled out earlier in the week. OL Tony Hills and G Manny Ramirez are healthy scratches.

Broncos signed DE Derrick Harvey, formerly of the Jaguars.

Harvey reportedly showed up to Jags' camp in less than ideal condition, which was the straw that broke the camel's back. Despite being the No. 8 overall pick in 2008, Harvey recorded just 8.5 sacks in three seasons and had his snaps reduced last season. The Broncos and defensive-minded head coach John Fox likely see this is a low-risk gamble on talent as Harvey can learn behind Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers.

Jaguars waived DE Derrick Harvey.

Harvey was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 draft. It appears that the Jags just ran out of patience on Harvey after he lost playing time to Jeremy Mincey last season and showed almost no pass-rushing ability in three years. Harvey will get another chance thanks to his measurables, but we don't have high hopes.

Jaguars GM Gene Smith reiterated his disappointment in former No. 8 overall pick Derrick Harvey.

"You hope at some point he's going to be able to make a move," said Smith. "He did not make that last year during the season. We had some guys earn the opportunity to play over him." The Jags traded up to select Harvey in 2008, giving Baltimore the No. 26 pick, two third-rounders, and a fourth-round pick in 2008. Not to mention a five-year, $23.8 million contract, 72 percent of which was guaranteed. The Ravens used No. 26 to trade back up for Joe Flacco.

Coach Jack Del Rio stated Monday that LE Derrick Harvey will continue to lose snaps to Jeremy Mincey.

Mincey can rush the passer; Harvey can't. The eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft, Harvey has no sacks in about 160 snaps this season, and he's only played about half of the Jaguars' defensive downs in the last two games.

Jaguars LE Derrick Harvey has lost 15 pounds in effort to become a more effective pass rusher.

Harvey, the No. 8 overall pick in 2008, has just 5.5 sacks in his first two seasons. He's locked into the left end spot in the 4-3, where improved quickness off the edge should lead to more production. Already a solid tackler, the potential for more sacks gives Harvey some upside.

Though he has just 5.5 sacks in his first two years, the Jaguars consider LE Derrick Harvey a superb run defender.

This explains Harvey's move last year from the weak to strong side, which typically sees more action from opposing run games. The Jags remain desperate for a right end who can beat left tackles to the QB's blind side.

New Jaguars DL coach Joe Cullen says he is a big believer in LE Derrick Harvey.

"Our pick was going to be Derrick Harvey if he was available," Cullen said of his time with the Lions in 2008. "The qualities we saw in Derrick are still there. He’s explosive, strong. He’s going to be a powerful rusher. With more repetition and work, that can come out of him." Harvey, the former No. 8 overall pick, has been a bust to this point. He'll be Cullen's primary project.

Jags GM Gene Smith said Saturday that the team's experiment with a 3-4 scheme on defense is over.

The Jags will use an "attack 4-3 defense" after last year's 3-4 trial run failed due to ill-fitting personnel and no pass rush. Under-performing 2008 first-rounder Derrick Harvey will play left end in what Smith called his "defining" third year.

The Colts frequently ran directly at Jaguars DE Derrick Harvey in Week 1, and he appeared to get benched in the second half.

Harvey opened the game as a stand-up outside linebacker in 3-4 looks, but Quentin Groves took over the position halfway through the game. It's not a great sign for the Jags' 2008 first-round pick, who also struggled as a rookie.

Jaguars 2008 first-round pick Derrick Harvey is expected to be an every-down starter this season.

Harvey flashed as a rookie, but finished with only 3.5 sacks and 20 tackles in nine starts. He won't be worth investing in until very late in IDP drafts.

First-round pick Derrick Harvey has overtaken Reggie Hayward as the Jaguars' starting right defensive end.

Harvey, the No. 8 overall pick in April, is a speed rusher but has yet to record his first NFL sack. After a long holdout Harvey's development has been slowed, but he could catch fire not unlike Gaines Adams in his rookie year.
