The 49ers gave NT Glenn Dorsey no assurances on his role when they signed him to a two-year, $6 million deal on March 13.
"No, Im coming into it trying to play whatever they want me to play," he said. "I don't have no set spot." Dorsey is penciled in (lightly) at nose tackle, but at 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, it's not an ideal position in the Niners' 3-4. The 49ers would prefer Dorsey to fill Ricky Jean-Francois' shoes as a utility lineman capable of backing up all three positions up front. Mon, Mar 25, 2013 11:47:00 AM

The 49ers plan to play newly signed Glenn Dorsey at nose tackle in their 3-4.

At 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, Dorsey will be an undersized nose tackle in the Jay Ratliff mold. The 49ers will likely give him plenty of penetrating opportunities as opposed to using Dorsey as a two-gap plugger. Dorsey's two-year deal is worth $6 million. He received a $2.285 million signing bonus.

49ers agreed to terms with DE Glenn Dorsey, formerly of the Chiefs.

Dorsey made San Francisco his lone free-agent visit. The Chiefs initially wanted him back, but they went out and signed DL Mike DeVito on Tuesday. Dorsey is a quality run defender, and he'll slide into the role vacated by free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois, acting as the top backup at the end spots.

Free agent DE Glenn Dorsey will visit the 49ers.

Fellow free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois appears headed out of San Francisco, so Dorsey may be pegged as his replacement. He's a fine run defender, but we like the idea of Dorsey as a tackle in a 4-3 better.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs are "really trying" to re-sign free agent DE Glenn Dorsey.

La Canfora considers Dorsey "likely" to stay in K.C. We'd prefer to see Dorsey get an opportunity to rush the passer from a three-technique position in a 4-3. If he hits the market, Dorsey could make sense as the No. 3 tackle in Detroit.

Chiefs placed DE Glenn Dorsey (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The transaction also may end Dorsey's career in Kansas City. Done for the year due to a recurring calf injury, Dorsey has also battled a bad knee and was essentially a non-factor in 2012. 27-year-old Dorsey's rookie contract is up after the season, and he'll be eligible for unrestricted free agency in March.

The Kansas City Star believes DE Glenn Dorsey will not be back with the Chiefs next season.

Dorsey is sidelined by a calf injury once again and is out indefinitely. After this season, his rookie contract will be up and the Chiefs are unlikely to pay the man they made the No. 5 overall pick in the 2008 draft. Dorsey is a better fit as a tackle in a 4-3 scheme.

Coach Romeo Crennel believes RE Glenn Dorsey's calf aggravation is the worst of the injuries suffered in Thursday's game.

"It looks like he might be the guy who's the most severe," said Crennel. Dorsey was playing for the first time since September. Ropati Pitoitua came on as Dorsey's replacement late in the game.

Chiefs RE Glenn Dorsey left Thursday night's game versus the Chargers after he re-injured his calf.

Dorsey was hurt at the end of the second quarter and is questionable to return. He has been battling the issue for the past month and a half and has missed the previous four games. Ropati Pitoitua and Allen Bailey will fill in.

Chiefs RE Glenn Dorsey (calf) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Dorsey's absence improves Ray Rice's Week 5 fantasy matchup. Dorsey figures to be replaced by Ropati Pitoitua across from Tyson Jackson for Sunday's game.

Chiefs RE Glenn Dorsey will not play on Monday Night Football at New England.

According to NFLN's Albert Breer, Dorsey tested the knee in pre-game warmups, but it didn't go as hoped. Dorsey has been an impact run defender in Kansas City's 3-4. The Chiefs figure to turn to a rotation at the position, involving rookie Allen Bailey and usual pass-rush specialist Wallace Gilberry.

Chiefs DE Glenn Dorsey (leg) is day-to-day.

Dorsey's season looked to be in jeopardy when he was carted to the locker room Sunday, but it now appears there's a good chance he suits up against the Patriots. He has 35 tackles and zero sacks in nine games.

DL Glenn Dorsey was taken to the locker room in a cart following a leg injury he suffered during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Eagles.

We guess no news is good news, as normally a serious injury will be accompanied by a report of some kind. If Dorsey does miss time, rookie DL Allen Bailey will be first up to fill the void.

Glenn Dorsey played almost double the snaps of any other Chiefs defensive lineman in 2010.

Dorsey's 937 snaps were more than any other 3-4 defensive end in the NFL, and he graded out as a top-five run-stopper in Pro Football Focus' ratings. With Wallace Gilberry breaking out on the other side and an improving Tyson Jackson rotating in, end is no longer a need area. Nose tackle, on the other hand, is a top priority.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley confirmed at OTAs Wednesday that Glenn Dorsey's primary position remains defensive end.

Dorsey (6'1/297) isn't remotely a 3-4 nose, so the idea that he might switch positions was no more than useless coachspeak. He'll get a push in camp from second-year end Alex Magee and productive blitzer Wallace Gilberry.
