49ers NT Glenn Dorsey (bicep) has been ruled out for Week 12 against the Redskins.
Activated Monday from injured reserve/designated to return, Dorsey was expected to start this week at nose for Ian Williams (broken leg, I.R.). Dorsey missed practice on Thursday and Friday, however, and is experiencing issues with his surgically repaired bicep. Quinton Dial will fill in at nose. Nov 22 - 12:44 PM

Date:

49ers activated NT Glenn Dorsey (biceps) from injured reserve/designated to return.

NT Ian Williams (broken leg) has been sent to injured reserve in a corresponding roster move. Williams' injury means Dorsey should immediately slide in as a starter.
Nov 17 - 4:43 PM

49ers did not activate NT Glenn Dorsey (biceps) for Week 11.

With Ian Williams sidelined, Quinton Dial will start Sunday against the Giants. Dorsey has resumed practicing and should be on track to return in Week 12.
Nov 15 - 3:37 PM

49ers NT Glenn Dorsey (biceps) has resumed practicing.

Dorsey is eligible to return from the injured reserve/designated for return list in Week 10. Ian Williams has held down the nose-tackle fort more than admirably in Dorsey's absence, so it's conceivable that Dorsey will return as a rotational run stopper only. He tore his left biceps in early August.
Oct 27 - 5:35 PM

49ers placed NT Glenn Dorsey (biceps) on injured reserve/designated to return.

Dorsey will miss at least the first eight games, but will likely be sidelined longer. It's possible he never suits up this season after going down in early August. Dorsey is under contract through 2016 after signing a two-year extension two weeks ago.
Sep 2 - 5:32 PM

The 49ers are expected to use their injured reserve/designated for return tag on NT Glenn Dorsey (torn biceps).

Dorsey tore his left biceps in early August, and the 49ers are hopeful he can make a late-season return. ILB Navorro Bowman (ACL, MCL) will open the year on the PUP list. The 49ers may view anything they get this year as a "bonus" from Dorsey. Their run defense will surely suffer without Dorsey and Bowman.
Aug 22 - 3:02 PM

49ers signed NT Glenn Dorsey to a two-year extension through 2016.

It's odd timing, as Dorsey appears poised to miss the 2014 season with a torn biceps. It could be a ploy to spread out his $2.3 million salary over the next three years. FOX's Mike Garofolo suggests the Niners are simply "buying low" on the ex-Chiefs first-rounder. Dorsey appeared in all 16 games last season, starting 13. He's never emerged as a pass-rush threat, but is an able run plugger.
Aug 19 - 7:04 PM

49ers NT Glenn Dorsey will undergo surgery Monday to repair a torn biceps tendon in his left arm.

The Niners expect to know whether Dorsey will play this season after the operation. Backup Ian Williams has undergone four surgeries on an ankle he fractured last Week 2, and isn't an option to replace Dorsey. San Francisco has suddenly encountered enough defensive losses that the fantasy stock of their skill position players is trending up. They'll have to play more aggressively.
Aug 4 - 12:00 AM

A source tells CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco that "it's undetermined" if Glenn Dorsey (biceps) will miss the entire season.

This conflicts with a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said that Dorsey has already been ruled out for the year. Dorsey will continue to be evaluated over the next few days before a decision is made. It's possible he could be placed on I.R./designated for return. With Ian Williams (ankle) out indefinitely, Quinton Dial, Demarcus Dobbs and Tony Jerod-Eddie are candidates for snaps at nose tackle.
Aug 2 - 2:59 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports 49ers NT Glenn Dorsey is out for the season with a torn bicep.

Dorsey suffered the injury during practice Friday. It is another tough injury blow for the 49ers, and leaves the team very thin at nose tackle. With Ian Williams still sidelined after breaking his ankle Week 2 last season, Mike Purcell is the only true nose left on the roster, though Quinton Dial, Demarcus Dobbs and Tony Jerod-Eddie can fill in as well. The 49ers may look to bring in outside help.
Aug 2 - 2:19 PM

The 49ers gave NT Glenn Dorsey no assurances on his role when they signed him to a two-year, $6 million deal on March 13.

"No, Im coming into it trying to play whatever they want me to play," he said. "I don't have no set spot." Dorsey is penciled in (lightly) at nose tackle, but at 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, it's not an ideal position in the Niners' 3-4. The 49ers would prefer Dorsey to fill Ricky Jean-Francois' shoes as a utility lineman capable of backing up all three positions up front.

The 49ers plan to play newly signed Glenn Dorsey at nose tackle in their 3-4.

At 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, Dorsey will be an undersized nose tackle in the Jay Ratliff mold. The 49ers will likely give him plenty of penetrating opportunities as opposed to using Dorsey as a two-gap plugger. Dorsey's two-year deal is worth $6 million. He received a $2.285 million signing bonus.

49ers agreed to terms with DE Glenn Dorsey, formerly of the Chiefs.

Dorsey made San Francisco his lone free-agent visit. The Chiefs initially wanted him back, but they went out and signed DL Mike DeVito on Tuesday. Dorsey is a quality run defender, and he'll slide into the role vacated by free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois, acting as the top backup at the end spots.
Wed, Mar 13, 2013 03:26:00 PM

Free agent DE Glenn Dorsey will visit the 49ers.

Fellow free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois appears headed out of San Francisco, so Dorsey may be pegged as his replacement. He's a fine run defender, but we like the idea of Dorsey as a tackle in a 4-3 better.
Tue, Mar 12, 2013 05:16:00 PM

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Chiefs are "really trying" to re-sign free agent DE Glenn Dorsey.

La Canfora considers Dorsey "likely" to stay in K.C. We'd prefer to see Dorsey get an opportunity to rush the passer from a three-technique position in a 4-3. If he hits the market, Dorsey could make sense as the No. 3 tackle in Detroit.
