Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Week 4 against the Ravens.

McKelvin practiced on limited basis Thursday and coach Doug Marrone indicated he "has a chance" to play this week. If McKelvin can't go, Aaron Williams will start at left cornerback, with Jim Leonhard replacing him on punt returns.

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin (hamstring) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

McKelvin suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and his status is uncertain for Sunday's game. His absence would be a major blow to Buffalo's pass defense. The Bills could be forced to start Brandon Burton, with Nickell Robey in the slot.

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin left Sunday's Week 3 game with a hamstring injury and will not return.

He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the contest, suggesting tests in the locker room showed a potentially severe injury. The Bills are also without CB Steph Gilmore (wrist surgery) and FS Jairus Byrd (plantar fasciitis).

The Bills are expected to start Leodis McKelvin at left cornerback to open the season.

Unfortunately, McKelvin has been shaky enough in August that he's expected to have a short leash. Beat writer Joe Buscaglia believes Crezdon Butler could put pressure on McKelvin if he struggles early in the year. Buffalo is set at right corner (Stephon Gilmore), strong safety (Aaron Williams) and ostensibly free safety (disgruntled Jairus Byrd), but left corner is a big question mark.

WGR 550 Buffalo believes Leodis McKelvin could face competition for the starting left cornerback job.

McKelvin entered training camp as the favorite to start opposite Stephon Gilmore, but hasn't practiced since last week due to an undisclosed injury. The missed playing time will allow Justin Rogers, Ron Brooks, Crezdon Butler and UDFA Nickell Robey to compete for a starting role in Buffalo's base defense. McKelvin remains the heavy favorite based on his pricey contract.

Bills coach Doug Marrone confirmed that Leodis McKelvin will compete for the starting left cornerback job.

The Bills didn't give McKelvin $20 million over four years just to return kicks. They're likely hoping he's able to supplant Aaron Williams opposite Stephon Gilmore. McKelvin has started just 10 games over the last two seasons.

Bills CB/KR Leodis McKelvin underwent groin surgery on January 10.

He received a 3-4 month recovery timetable. The Bills must be confident in McKelvin's health, considering GM Buddy Nix just locked him up on a four-year, $20 million deal, with $7.5 million guaranteed. McKelvin will be fully recovered by training camp. He'll face competition to be the starter opposite Steph Gilmore.

Bills re-signed CB Leodis McKelvin to a four-year, $20 million contract.

McKelvin was the most explosive return specialist in football last season -- Jacoby Jones included -- but the money here is surprising and may indicate the Bills envision McKelvin as a 2013 defensive contributor. He's long struggled in pass coverage and with his ball skills. Turning 28 before the season, McKelvin will probably compete with Aaron Williams to start at left corner opposite RCB Stephon Gilmore. The LCB position figures to remain an exploitable weakness if Mario Williams and Mark Anderson can't generate better pass rush.

The Bills and free agent CB/KR Leodis McKelvin are in the "beginning stages" of contract talks.

The two sides will meet again Friday before teams can start legally tampering at midnight. McKelvin has been inconsistent on defense, but he's a potent return man. He led the NFL with 18.7 yards per punt return last year, bringing two to the house. The former first-round pick would draw plenty of interest.

Bills GM Buddy Nix is hopeful of re-signing free agent CB/KR Leodis McKelvin.

"Leodis is a guy we’d like to keep," said Nix. McKelvin increased his market value with a prolific season as a kickoff and punt returner, but he wants to play cornerback more for his next team. Expect McKelvin to hit the market.
