ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak expects CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) to open the season on the reserve/PUP list.

McKelvin had a setback last month that reportedly needed surgery. His Week 1 status is in doubt, and McKelvin could miss the first six games if he's placed on PUP. Rookie Ronald Darby will continue to start opposite Stephon Gilmore.

Bills coach Rex Ryan admits CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) may not be ready for Week 1.

Ryan also revealed McKelvin "may have" had surgery after suffering a setback last month. We interpret "may have" as a definitive yes. "I can’t tell you if it’s going to be the first game, but it’s a significant injury," Ryan said. "He will play this season. It’s just when he’s going to be available I’m not that sure." Ronald Darby has been running with the 1s in McKelvin's absence.

Bills coach Rex Ryan admitted CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) suffered a setback.

McKelvin was expected to be ready for camp, but he opened on the active/PUP list and was spotted Saturday riding a golf cart and scooter around practice. Rookie Ronald Darby is working with the first-team in place of McKelvin and would be the Week 1 starter if McKelvin is forced to miss significant time.
Aug 1 - 12:32 PM

Bills placed CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) on the active/PUP list.

McKelvin was expected to be ready for camp after breaking his ankle last November, but is apparently still healing up. There's little reason to doubt McKelvin's Week 1 status, but it's surprising he's still not ready to go.
Jul 30 - 11:15 PM

Bills CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) is expected to start opposite Stephon Gilmore.

Second-round pick Ronald Darby could push McKelvin, but will probably settle into a sub-package role. A broken ankle limited McKelvin to 10 games last season, but the seven-year veteran thrived two years ago in a defense very similar to the one new coach Rex Ryan will install. McKelvin is a candidate for a bounce-back season.
Jun 27 - 12:02 PM

Bills CB Leodis McKelvin (ankle) remains on track for training camp.

McKelvin is expected to miss Buffalo’s entire offseason program. His camp status has never been in doubt. McKelvin's starting job, on the other hand, is questionable after the Bills selected Ronald Darby in the second round.
May 15 - 7:10 PM

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin (broken ankle) is expected to be ready for training camp.

McKelvin has yet to be cleared for OTAs, but should be ready well in advance of late July's camp. Heading into his age-30 campaign, McKelvin was having an up-and-down year before going down last season.
Apr 6 - 1:51 PM

Bills placed LCB Leodis McKelvin on injured reserve with a fractured ankle, ending his season.

Corey Graham will take over McKelvin's position on the perimeter, with Nickell Robey at slot corner and Steph Gilmore at RCB. It's not a downgrade, as Graham has been Buffalo's most consistent cover man all year. McKelvin has a boatload of talent, but has never fully realized it. We do suspect he'll be kept at an affordable rate of just under $4 million in 2015 salary and bonuses.

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin has been diagnosed with a fractured ankle.

He'll likely miss the rest of the season, as the Bills have already used their I.R./designated for return spot on C.J. Spiller. McKelvin has been a middle-of-the-pack cover corner this season, just like he has most years since being the 11th overall pick in the 2008 draft. Corey Graham will slide into the starting lineup opposite Stephon Gilmore. McKelvin is due $4 million in 2015.

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin was forced from Buffalo's Week 11 game against the Dolphins with an ankle injury.

McKelvin was initially deemed "questionable," but was ruled out after halftime. Corey Graham is in the game opposite Stephon Gilmore.

Bills activated LCB Leodis McKelvin from the active/PUP list.

McKelvin was placed on active/PUP earlier in the week, but won't end up missing any training camp time. He underwent offseason hip surgery and was limited in OTAs. The Bills have cleared him to return to practice.

Bills placed LCB Leodis McKelvin and LB Randell Johnson on the active/PUP list.

McKelvin is recovering from offseason hip surgery. He's not expected to miss much camp, and can be activated at any time. Johnson's injury is unknown, but he missed time throughout his college career at FAU with nagging injuries.

Bills LCB Leodis McKelvin is recovering from offseason hip surgery.

As is RCB Stephon Gilmore. McKelvin is sitting out team drills in OTAs, but appears on track for training camp. Going on 29 and signed through 2016, McKelvin is coming off his best season as a pro.
