Dolphins signed OLB/DE Antwan Applewhite.
Applewhite has appeared in 49 games for the Chargers and Panthers during his five-year career, mostly as a special teamer. He can be a situational pass rusher in a pinch if he makes the Dolphins' final roster. For now, Applewhite is a camp body as Randy Starks and Dion Jordan nurse injuries. Panthers declared QB Jimmy Clausen, WR Joe Adams, S D.J. Campbell, CB James Dockery, T Bruce Campbell, DE Antwan Applewhite, and DE Thomas Keiser inactive for Week 8 against the Bears.

The Panthers are down to three healthy defensive ends in this matchup, with both Applewhite and Keiser out due to injuries. Expect to see rookie end Frank Alexander quite often, but the Panthers continue to lack talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Panthers DL/OLB Antwan Applewhite (knee) has been ruled out for Week 4 against the Falcons.

Applewhite, a Ron Rivera favorite, is a valuable special teamer, but he sometimes works as a situational pass rusher opposite Charles Johnson. His value to the Panthers is in the locker room.

Panthers re-signed DE/OLB Antwan Applewhite.

A favorite of coach Ron Rivera, Applewhite gets high marks for special teams prowess and locker room presence. He's also flashed pass rushing ability going back to his early career with the Chargers. Applewhite will be a backup in 2012 after recording 21 tackles and two sacks last season.

The Charlotte Observer lists Antwan Applewhite and Jordan Senn as high priority free agents for the Panthers.

Applewhite has a history with coach Ron Rivera in San Diego and can play both linebacker and end. Senn finished fourth on the team in tackles (73), but is severely undersized and not likely to command much attention on the open market.

Panthers signed OLB/DE Antwan Applewhite, formerly of the 49ers.

Applewhite has flashed pass-rush ability over the past few seasons and can help on special teams. Coach Ron Rivera was with San Diego as linebackers coach/defensive coordinator from 2007-10, so he's familiar with Applewhite. Applewhite will likely play most of his snaps at defensive end in Carolina.

49ers waived OLB Antwan Applewhite.

Applewhite goes to make room for Tavares Gooden. The Niners are rolling with Parys Haralson, Ahmad Brooks, and Aldon Smith as their only outside linebackers.

49ers signed OLB Antwan Applewhite, formerly of the Chargers.

Applewhite played way more snaps than the Chargers hoped last season, though he did flash some pass-rush ability with three sacks and two forced fumbles. A May 6 DUI arrest was Applewhite's undoing in San Diego. With the 49ers, Applewhite knows DC Greg Manusky's system and can also contribute on special teams.

Free agent OLB Antwan Applewhite will sign with the 49ers pending a physical.

The Niners need to replace Travis LaBoy, who signed with the Chargers on Friday. Applewhite would fill a situational pass rusher role and help on special teams.

The Chargers have rescinded OLB Antwan Applewhite's restricted tender, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Applewhite certainly didn't help his case by getting popped for DUI in May. He'll be on the hunt for a special teams role elsewhere.
Wed, Jul 27, 2011 09:08:00 AM

Chargers OLB Antwan Applewhite will plead not guilty next week to drunken driving stemming from his May 6 arrest.

"The plan is to plead not guilty and take a look at what kind of evidence there is," Applewhite’s attorney said. "I understand the officer was impressed with how cooperative Antwan was." Applewhite may lose his roster spot on the Chargers if he's convicted. He received a restricted tender in February.

The San Diego Union-Tribune speculates that Chargers OLB Antwan Applewhite's Friday DUI arrest will cost him his roster spot.

The Union-Trib lists Applewhite along with Anthony Waters, Tim Dobbins, and Legedu Naanee, all players who were ousted from San Diego after off-field errors. We'd add Terrence Kiel to the list. Applewhite is a solid defender and special teamer, but the Chargers were already looking for an upgrade.

10 News San Diego reports that Chargers OLB Antwan Applewhite was arrested Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was pulled over at 2:23 AM and placed under arrest after a battery of alcohol tests. His court date is scheduled for June 17. Applewhite, who is technically a restricted free agent, was a key member of the Chargers' injury-plagued linebacker corps a year ago, racking up three sacks and two forced fumbles. The team was hoping to bring him back as a situational player.

The Chargers plan to keep Antwan Applewhite at outside linebacker in 2011.

A college defensive end, Applewhite has been shuttled inside and out in his three-year career. The Chargers gave Applewhite a second-round tender as a restricted free agent, and he'll be back to play in a rotation outside. The 25-year-old racked up 48 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2011.

Chargers re-signed exclusive rights free agent OLB Antwan Applewhite.

Applewhite played in just one game last season after suffering a hamstring injury in the season-opener. He'll return as a backup linebacker and special teamer in 2010.
