Oakland has signed two new linebackers over the last couple of days, so Connor isn't needed as much as he was when he arrived for the visit. After not playing all that well in a 3-4 with Dallas last season, Connor is best suited for a 4-3.

Connor was scheduled to visit the Steelers on Wednesday, but he never actually went. The Raiders really could use three new starting linebackers, so Oakland would be one of Connor's better options for playing time.

Coming off an unproductive season as a 3-4 inside 'backer in Dallas, Connor is on the hunt for a chance to rehab his value. The slow-footed yet sure-tackling Penn Stater could be an inexpensive fit next to Lawrence Timmons in Pittsburgh.

Cowboys released LB Dan Connor.

Connor was apparently averse to a pay-cut less than a year after signing a two-year, $6.5 million deal. The move frees up over $3 million in cap space for the cap-strapped Cowboys. Connor struggled last season after injuries to Sean Lee and Bruce Carter thrust him into the starting lineup. His market will be slow developing.

The Cowboys are working toward a restructured contract with LB Dan Connor.

Connor’s base salary and cap number are $3 million and $4.35 million, respectively. That's steep for a backup, but the Cowboys hope to keep Connor around because of his experience in the 4-3 defense, which new DC Monte Kiffin is installing. The 27-year-old former Panther is currently signed through 2013.

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk says if Connor declines, then he'll be released. The 27-year-old is set to count $4.35 million against the 2013 cap in the final year of a two-year pact. Connor registered 56 tackles last season, starting eight games.

The 2012 free-agent signee is due $3 million in 2013. Pressed into starting action after Sean Lee was lost for the season with a toe injury, Connor did not play at a high level. With the Cowboys facing perhaps the league's tightest cap crunch, Connor is likely gone.

Connor was sent for further testing after X-rays came back negative. The stinger diagnosis suggests Connor has a chance to play this week at Atlanta.

X-rays on Cowboys ILB Dan Connor's neck came back negative.

Connor went down in the first quarter with what he called a "stinger." But he was unable to return, hinting at something more. Sean Lee's fill-in is slated for more tests this week. "Your shoulder goes numb and you get burners down your arms," Connor said. "It's too early to tell (about the Atlanta game), I think." Former practice squadder Orie Lemon was forced into action at inside 'backer after Connor went down.

Cowboys ILB Dan Connor was forced from Sunday's game against the Giants with a strained neck, and will not return.

Making his first start in Sean Lee's absence, Connor has been replaced by Orie Lemon. Connor went down in a heap, and remained down for several moments before walking off under his own power. It's a troubling development for the Cowboys on an afternoon where Tony Romo can't stop throwing the ball to the other team.

Cowboys ILB Dan Connor (shoulder surgery) is practicing with the rookies to make up for time lost during the offseason.

"I don't feel behind at all," Connor insisted. "I feel great and my health is great. I put in a lot of offseason study time." Although Bruce Carter is expected to play on passing downs, Connor still has a viable chance to win the early-down job next Sean Lee.

ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer expects the Cowboys to start Dan Connor at inside linebacker next to Sean Lee this season.

The expectation is that Connor will be the early-down run stuffer, replaced by Bruce Carter in Dallas' nickel packages. If so, it will be a situation to avoid in IDP leagues. Look for Lee to lead the Cowboys in tackles this season.
