Patriots signed DE Chris Long, formerly of the Rams, to a one-year contract.
It made too much sense after the Patriots shipped RE Chandler Jones to the Cardinals via trade on Tuesday. Long will step in and fill the roster void, though we're not going to ink him into a starting spot just yet. Long hasn't put much good tape on film the past two years as he's battled injuries, and he turns 31 later this month. Still, it's a fine landing spot for Long, who's determined to breathe life back into his career. Long has 54.5 career sacks in 114 games. Mar 15 - 9:20 PM

Free agent DE Chris Long has left his Patriots visit without a contract, and will visit the Cowboys on Tuesday evening.

Chandler Jones' trade has created an opening for Long in Boston, but the Pats aren't offering the right price. The Cowboys have a pretty big need for an edge rusher, and could be more willing to play financial ball with the ex-Ram.
Mar 15 - 4:11 PM

The Patriots will host free agent DE Chris Long on Monday.

Per ESPN's Trey Wingo, the Pats will also put Long through a workout, which isn't necessarily typical of free agent visits. The Patriots likely want to see what Long has left. Long is only 31 years old, but he has just three sacks over his last 16 games. He'd likely be a situational pass rusher in Foxboro.

The Providence Journal reports the Patriots are showing interest in free agent DE Chris Long.

He visited the Falcons on Thursday and is also believed to have a visit set up with the Cowboys. Long has visited the Redskins, as well. The seriousness of Long's Patriots interest is unclear. They're unlikely to offer him much money, but could obviously offer 31-year-old long a chance at a Super Bowl ring.

ESPN's Trey Wingo reports free agent DE Chris Long will visit the Falcons on Thursday.

Long has also visited the Redskins and will reportedly visit the Cowboys. The Falcons have the fewest sacks in the NFL over the last three seasons, but Long has just 12.5 sacks total himself over that span. Long could be a good edge-setting option opposite Vic Beasley, but he is not going to solve the Falcons' pass-rushing woes.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent DE Chris Long will visit the Cowboys.

Long is making the NFC East rounds after visiting the Redskins earlier this week. He'd be a much better fit in Dallas where DC Rod Marinelli runs a 4-3 scheme that Long has played in his entire career. With DE Randy Gregory suspended and RE Greg Hardy likely done in Dallas, Long could find his way into a starting job with the Cowboys opposite Demarcus Lawrence.
Mar 9 - 9:32 AM

The Redskins will host DE Chris Long for a free agent visit on Tuesday.

Long has spent his entire career as a 4-3 left defensive end. He would likely move to outside linebacker in Washington's 3-4 scheme. Long has managed just three sacks over his last 16 games, but he has encountered a ton of bad injury luck. Turning 31 later this month, Long could bring leadership to D.C. and add some juice to the Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan-Preston Smith OLB rotation.
Mar 7 - 11:19 AM

According to ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini, free agent DE Chris Long "only wants to sign with a Super Bowl contender."

Long has already inked two monster NFL contracts, landing a six-year, $56.5 million deal pre-rookie wage scale before signing a four-year, $50 million extension in July of 2012. He shouldn't need much more money. Russini reports Long is "100 percent" healthy after a knee injury ruined his 2015 season.
Mar 4 - 1:26 PM

The MMQB's Peter King reports free agent DE Chris Long will be "pursued aggressively by contenders."

King reports Long is already receiving interest, but he may take his time in making a decision. Going on 31, Long has struggled through injuries the last two seasons and has not recorded double-digit sacks since 2012. He could be useful to a contender as a situational rusher, but he is not going to command big money on the open market.

Rams released DE Chris Long.

The Rams saved about $23 million by cutting Long, James Laurinaitis and Jared Cook on Friday, and now have more than $50 million available. That should give Los Angeles more than enough to re-sign CBs Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins. Long probably saw this one coming after losing playing time to William Hayes at left end in 2015. Injuries have limited the former No. 2 pick to just 18 games over the last two seasons.

Rams DE Chris Long admitted he'd consider taking a pay cut to remain with the team.

Entering the final year of his contract, the former No. 2 overall pick and longest-tenured Rams player, Long is set to count a team-high $14.25 million against the cap. He missed 10 games in 2014 with an ankle injury, and then broke a bone in his knee in Week 5 this season to keep him out of four games and ineffective the rest of the year. Long lost his starting job to William Hayes. Releasing Long would save the Rams $11.75 million.

Coach Jeff Fisher said LE Chris Long (knee) is "still a couple weeks away."

Long has been out since Week 5. He practiced on a limited basis Friday, but is listed as doubtful. Long is unlikely to return before Week 12.

Rams LE Chris Long (knee, doubtful) returned to a limited practice Friday.

Long had been sidelined since hyperextending his knee Week 5 against the Packers. He is not going to play this week, but the practice at least gives him a shot at return Week 11 against the Ravens. William Hayes has started the last three games in Long's place.

Rams LE Chris Long (knee) is out for Week 9 against the Vikings.

Long hasn't played since hyperextending his knee in Week 5. William Hayes has been filling in at left end.

Rams LE Chris Long (knee) has been ruled out for Week 7.

St. Louis had a Week 6 bye, but Long still isn't ready after suffering what was reported as a "hyperextended" knee in Week 5 against the Packers. William Hayes will get the starting nod at left end against Cleveland.
