Coach Mike Shanahan says Fred Davis (Achilles') will be held out of next week's minicamp.
Shanahan "doesn't want" Davis to practice and instead wants to "use caution" and hold the tight end out until training camp, even though he could play in a game if he had to next week. There's no reason for the Redskins to rush Davis, but it's clear he's on track to be on the field in July. Jun 6 - 1:25 PM

Fred Davis admitted he received very little interest on the open market before re-signing with the Redskins.

Coming off an Achilles' tear, Davis visited with the Bills, Jets and Browns. But he settled for a meager one-year, $2.5M contract with the Redskins while watching the likes of Jared Cook, Martellus Bennett and Delanie Walker land lucrative multi-year contracts in free agency. Davis, who says he's 90 percent right now, will be highly motivated to prove himself once again. Still just 27, there's room for him to land a significant contract in 2014.

Fred Davis (Achilles') was catching passes and running routes as the Redskins opened OTAs Thursday.

Like Robert Griffin III (knee), Davis was not in uniform and worked off to the side. It's still encouraging to see him pivoting and moving well seven months after blowing out his heel. Beat writer Chris Russell said Davis "looks better than I thought." The pass-catching tight end says he's at 90 percent now and expects to be 100 percent by June's minicamps.

Speaking in a Wednesday presser, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Fred Davis (Achilles) has made "strides," but the team won't know how far he's progressed before OTAs.

Davis is six months removed from the Achilles' tear, and expects to be fully cleared by June. Despite Davis' bullish outlook, he's a strong candidate to begin camp on active/PUP, with a stint on reserve/PUP possible to begin the year.
Apr 24 - 2:07 PM

Fred Davis (Achilles) expects to be cleared for full activity in June.

Davis tore his left Achilles' in the Week 7 loss to the Giants. He appears to be well ahead of the normal timeline, as he's already running and is expected to be a full participant in training camp. The cap-strapped Redskins' willingness to give Davis a $1.5M signing bonus shows they're confident he will be their starting tight end come Week 1. Logan Paulsen got a $1.1M signing bonus.
Apr 2 - 8:41 AM

Redskins re-signed TE Fred Davis to a one-year contract.

Davis is staying home even though the Bills' offer was reportedly "a little better," and for two years. Recovering from a torn Achilles, Davis' one-year deal gives him the opportunity to prove he's healthy and cash in with a bigger contract next offseason. Davis' role in the Redskins' Robert Griffin III-driven offense was never quite clear before he went down last season, but he still has back-end TE1 upside. If healthy, he could enter 2013 as the Redskins' No. 2 option in the passing game. Davis is tentatively expected to be ready for training camp.
Mar 29 - 8:24 AM

Free agent Fred Davis will not make his scheduled visit to the Jets on Friday, and has narrowed his choices to the Redskins and Bills.

The Washington Examiner's John Keim hears the Bills' offer is "a little better" than the Redskins', but not so much that it's an easy decision for Davis. From a fantasy standpoint, we like Davis better in D.C. The Skins have a capable quarterback and Davis would be the No. 2 pass catcher behind Pierre Garcon.
Mar 28 - 9:34 PM

Free agent Fred Davis says re-signing with the Redskins is "still an option."

"We're still talking to them too a little bit," said Davis. "So we'll see what happens." Davis has contract offers from both the Redskins and Bills, and he's on his way to visit the Jets on Friday. Washington has less than $3 million in cap room.
Mar 28 - 5:12 PM

Free agent Fred Davis will visit the Jets on Friday as planned.

Davis is in Buffalo on Thursday, but he's not going to make that his only stop. The Bills were likely doing their due diligence and seeing where Davis was in his rehab process from the torn Achilles' before making him a legitimate contract offer. Davis did reiterate that he is "way ahead" in his recovery.
Mar 28 - 3:28 PM

Free agent Fred Davis is visiting the Bills on Thursday and has a meeting with the Jets scheduled for Friday.

He'll visit the Jets tomorrow if the Bills let Davis get out of town. Davis is coming off of a torn Achilles', so it's possible these clubs are simply doing their due diligence and are not yet ready to make Davis a significant offer.
Mar 28 - 12:50 PM

The Jets are scheduled to host TE Fred Davis for a free-agent visit.

The Washington Examiner's John Keim is "not sure when" the meeting will take place. Davis is in Buffalo on Wednesday, and the Bills could easily beat out the Jets if a bidding war ensued. The Redskins also want to re-sign Davis.
Mar 27 - 10:43 AM

The Bills will host TE Fred Davis for a free-agent visit on Wednesday.

Davis dined with Bills execs Saturday night and will visit the club facility this week. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Redskins remain interested in re-signing Davis and the Jets are interested, too. (This is the first time we've seen the Jets linked to Davis.) The Browns no longer appear to be in the running.
Mar 24 - 7:23 PM

Free agent TE Fred Davis had dinner with Bills officials on Saturday night.

Coach Doug Marrone, GM Buddy Nix, and assistant GM Doug Whaley were all in attendance. It's the first non-Redskins or Browns nugget on Davis since free agency opened. Buffalo has been awfully quiet, but Davis would be a fine addition to the offense as a field-stretching tight end. Scott Chandler tore his ACL in Week 16, and the Bills don't have a capable in-house replacement.
Mar 24 - 11:44 AM

CSN Washington's Rich Tandler doesn't expect free agent TE Fred Davis to sign with a team until mid-April.

Tandler believes the Redskins have an offer on the table to Davis, and they're unlikely to budge from it because Washington isn't facing any competition for the 27-year-old's services. It would be a surprise if Davis isn't re-signed.
Mar 24 - 9:55 AM

Free agent TE Fred Davis (Achilles' surgery) says he's resumed running and his rehab is "ahead of schedule."

Davis expects to be ready for on-field drills sometime in April. "I’m good," he said. "I’m just rehabbing and working out right now. I started running a couple of weeks ago. I’m back on my pace. A little bit ahead of schedule, which is really good." The Redskins want Davis back, but only at their price.
