Browns released WR Earl Bennett.
He lasted 33 days in Cleveland. The fact Bennett is getting cut loose at this stage of the offseason by a team with perhaps the league's thinnest receiver corps is a terrible sign for his NFL future. That being said, Bennett should latch on elsewhere as a camp body after catching 32 passes for the Bears last year. Tue, Jun 17, 2014 05:06:00 PM

Browns signed WR Earl Bennett, formerly of the Bears.

Bennett, 27, recorded 32 catches for 243 yards (7.6 YPR) and four touchdowns in 15 games with Chicago last year. With Josh Gordon facing a lengthy suspension and Nate Burleson re-breaking his arm, the Browns needed help at the position. Bennett is no more than a younger Burleson as a pedestrian, chain-moving slot receiver. He was released by the Bears two months ago after refusing a pay cut. Bennett should be coming cheap.

Free agent Earl Bennett's asking price is reportedly too high and needs to come down.

Bennett, 27, is far from a household name or difference maker, but at this stage he's one of the better receivers on the free-agent market. He was released by the Bears three weeks ago and has yet to make a visit. Bennett is a low-upside slot receiver. He shouldn't be commanding much more than a million bucks.

The Tampa Tribune says "there's a chance" the Bucs will take a look at free agent WR Earl Bennett.

The Tribune is simply executing a simple connecting of the dots. Bennett played for Lovie Smith for five seasons and the Bucs have been searching for wideout help throughout free agency. The 26-year-old would be a low-upside but serviceable slot option between Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.

Bears released WR Earl Bennett.

He rejected a pay cut. The Bears save $2.45 million against the cap by releasing the soon-to-be 27-year-old. Bennett has only 85 catches over the past three seasons. Chicago is high on second-year WR Marquess Wilson, who has emerged as the favorite for No. 3 duties behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Only 21 years old, Wilson's Dynasty arrow is pointing straight up.

The Bears have not yet asked WR Earl Bennett to take a pay cut.

It's quite possibly because they're going to release him outright. Bennett was not a big part of Marc Trestman's 2013 offense, and cutting him would save $2.45 million in salary cap room. He finished the season with 32 receptions.

Earl Bennett (personal) is inactive for Week 17 against the Packers.

It's a loss for the Bears, as Bennett had been a bigger part of the offense over the past six weeks. Also inactive for the NFC North championship game are QB Jordan Palmer, OT Joe Long, G/T James Brown, OT Jonathan Scott, WR Chris Williams and DE Cornelius Washington.

Earl Bennett (personal) is not expected to play in Sunday's 4:25 PM ET clash with the Packers.

Bennett missed the entire practice week to attend to an away-from-football matter that has not been disclosed. It's something of a blow to Chicago's offense because Bennett plays around half of the snaps and is a reliable slot/possession receiver. Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery may line up inside more.

Indications at Halas Hall Friday were that Earl Bennett (personal) would miss Week 17 against the Packers.

Coach Marc Trestman has described the personal matter as a "family issue back home." Bennett didn't practice Thursday or Friday. The Bears signed Chris Williams off the Saints' practice squad this week, indicating they were preparing to be short one receiver. Slot man Bennett has 32 catches on the year.
Fri, Dec 27, 2013 01:59:00 PM

Earl Bennett caught two catches for 12 yards in Week 16 against the Eagles.

Bennett played a minor role in the passing game and caught a two-point conversion at the end of the third quarter. He hasn't been fantasy relevant all year and can continue to be avoided in most formats.
Mon, Dec 23, 2013 01:42:00 AM

Earl Bennett caught four passes for 23 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 15 win at Cleveland.

Operating out of the slot, Bennett made a nice move to shake off press coverage and catch a five-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler in the fourth quarter. The veteran remains the fourth option in the passing game and far off the fantasy radar.
Sun, Dec 15, 2013 05:35:00 PM

Earl Bennett caught two passes for 18 yards and one touchdown in Week 14 against the Cowboys.

They were the only two targets Bennett saw on the night. He's reeled in two passes or less in 11-of-13 games this season and obviously isn't a fantasy option. Bennett's touchdown came from four yards out on the opening drive.
Tue, Dec 10, 2013 12:49:00 AM

Earl Bennett caught two passes for 17 yards in the Bears' Week 13 loss to the Vikings.

A distant fifth on Chicago's passing-game totem pole behind Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Matt Forte, and Martellus Bennett, slot receiver Earl isn't even worth rostering in 14- or 16-team re-draft fantasy leagues.
Sun, Dec 1, 2013 05:45:00 PM

Earl Bennett caught eight passes for 58 yards in Chicago's Week 12 loss to the Rams.

The outburst came after Bennett entered Week 12 having cleared neither four catches nor 30 yards in a game. It's not a repeatable effort in a passing attack that has to feed Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte on a weekly basis.
Sun, Nov 24, 2013 06:47:00 PM

Earl Bennett was held without a catch in Week 9 against the Packers.

Bennett wasn't targeted a single time, even though Josh McCown threw 41 passes. He simply plays a very small role on offense. Bennett has just 11 catches on the season and is obviously not on the fantasy radar.
