Former Giants draft pick and Redskins practice squad QB Andre Woodson is now pursuing a coaching career.
Once considered a top prospect by draftniks, Woodson plummeted to the 198th pick in 2008 after the Senior Bowl exposed him as a deliberate passer with a big windup and slow release. Redskins released QB Andre Woodson from their practice squad.

He was cut in favor of journeyman FB Jonathan Evans, which doesn't say much for Woodson's future. Big armed with a long delivery, Woodson never would've been a good fit for the Redskins' West Coast offense anyhow.

Redskins signed QB Andre Woodson to their practice squad.

They preferred Woodson's big arm and upside to Chase Daniels'. It's not the greatest fit. Woodson is going from the Giants' vertical offense to Jim Zorn's precision-based short passing attack. Don't bet on the former All American pushing Todd Collins to be Jason Campbell's primary backup anytime soon.

No surprise here as the former Kentucky standout was a big disappointment at camp. He's unlikely to garner much interest around the league.

Giants QB Andre Woodson has reportedly completely revamped his throwing style.

Woodson had a Byron Leftwich-like windup when he left Kentucky after a wildly productive college career, but he now boasts a "much faster motion getting rid of the ball." He's still a long way from establishing value, and there's little history of drastic mechanics change working for QBs at this level.

Giants signed QB Andre Woodson, WRs Taye Biddle and WR Micah Rucker, OG Mike Fladell, OT Cliff Louis, TE Martrez Milner, SS Travonti Johnson, RB Dwayne Wright, and OT Orrin Thompson to reserve/future contracts.

The Jints don't take these signings lightly. Milner and Wright are both former fourth-round picks with some potential. Woodson, their sixth-rounder a year ago, had a miserable 2008 preseason. His confidence may be shot.

Woodson has now gone through waivers unclaimed twice, which doesn't say a whole lot about his stock around the league.

Giants released QB Andre Woodson off their practice squad.

Perhaps Woodson's confidence is shot after he fell from likely first-round pick to the sixth round in April, because it isn't physical talent that he lacks. It is worth noting, though, that the Giants are very sound evaluators.

Woodson will be the third QB in theory behind Eli Manning and David Carr. It's not a surprise Woodson drew little interest after a poor training camp.

Falling to the sixth round had to shake Woodson's confidence and he apparently never got it back, throwing pick after pick in training camp practices. The Giants are showing a lot of faith in David Carr as the only QB on their roster after Eli Manning. Woodson could go on the practice squad.

Giants signed sixth-round QB Andre Woodson to a multi-year contract.

Woodson was the SEC's second best QB (behind Tim Tebow) as a senior, but fell in the draft due to concerns about his elongated throwing motion. His odds of making the club were hurt by a quadriceps strain in OTAs, but Jared Lorenzen's release should keep him around through at least late August.

Woodson was never hurt in college, but he's dealt with leg injuries since the Combine in February. He could be ticketed for the practice squad.

The Giants reportedly hope to "develop" sixth-round QB Andre Woodson and trade him for a high draft pick in a few seasons.

Woodson would have to at least see the field some the next few years for this plan to be a success. The Newark Star-Ledger says Anthony Wright or Jared Lorenzen "will be cut soon." We'd take any of these guys over David Carr.

Giants selected Kentucky QB Andre Woodson with the No. 198 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Apparently demolishing the SEC, having a cannon for an arm, and taking massive strides every season as a three-year starter gets you picked in the sixth round these days. Woodson has a hitch in his delivery that scared teams off. But this actually is a pretty good situation to be in. If he shows well in practice, he has an easy track to being Eli Manning's clear backup by 2009. He's got only David Carr, Jared Lorenzen, and Anthony Wright to beat.
