Jets signed WRs Dexter Jackson, Eron Riley, and Michael Campbell, TE Dedrick Epps, OT Dennis Landolt, and CB Julian Posey to reserve/future contracts.
Jackson is a former second-round flop out of Appalachian State. He may be given a look on returns in spring and summer workouts. Epps played college ball at Miami (FL), Landolt at Penn State, and Riley is a former Duke Blue Devil. Mon, Jan 2, 2012 07:07:00 PM

Giants worked out WR/KR Dexter Jackson on Tuesday.

Darius Reynaud has been lousy on both kickoffs and punts, so the Giants may be doing due diligence on return candidates.

Free agent WR/KR Dexter Jackson will try out for the Lions Tuesday.

Stefan Logan has done a solid job on kick returns this season but has struggled on punt returns. Jackson previously worked out for the Bengals after Week 1 but wasn't signed.

Free agent WR/KR Dexter Jackson will try out for the Bengals Tuesday.

Adam "Pacman" Jones, Quan Cosby and Bernard Scott all failed miserably at kickoff returns in Week 1, so the Bengals are looking for an upgrade. If signed, Jackson wouldn't see any time on offense.

Panthers waived WR/KR Dexter Jackson and WR Oliver Young.

Jackson was a local star at Appalachian State before the Bucs grabbed in the second round two years ago. If he couldn't make it in Carolina, he's not going to make it in the NFL.

Panthers signed WR/KR Dexter Jackson, DE Eric Moore, and CB Marcus Walker to reserve/future contracts.

Jackson, the Bucs' 2008 second-round pick, was on Carolina's practice squad for most of the year. It's a bad sign he couldn't overtake Kenny Moore, but Jackson may get a chance to battle for slot receiver duties in 2010 camp.

Panthers signed WR/KR Dexter Jackson to their practice squad.

Carolina is in search of return options with Mike Goodson (concussion) on the mend. Jackson could get a call-up late this week if he practice well.

The Panthers hosted free agent WR/KR Dexter Jackson on Tuesday, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.

Jackson, the 2008 58th overall pick, would be a cheaper return option than Mark Jones, who failed his physical Tuesday. He wouldn't be an asset in the passing game. Jackson wasn't even a productive wide receiver in college.

Bucs waived WR/KR Dexter Jackson.

This is the Bucs admitting Jackson was one of the worst draft picks in team history. The speedster out of Appalachian State was the team's second-round pick in 2008. That was clearly a reach. He was terrible as a return man and didn't catch a single ball as a rookie.

Last year's second-round WR/KR Dexter Jackson will reportedly need to have a "heck of a training camp" to even make the Bucs roster.

Jackson failed to record a catch last season, and his calling card -- kick returning -- has fallen into the hands of Clifton Smith. Even if he manages to stay on the roster, he'd likely be inactive on game days.

Former Bucs coach Jon Gruden admitted the team reached for WR/KR Dexter Jackson in the second-round last April.

The Bucs were "starving" to draft a wide receiver, and the team was impressed with the undersized Appalachian State star's blazing speed. Jackson failed to record a catch in his rookie year and even lost return duties to undrafted Pro Bowler Clifton Smith.

Bucs 2008 second-round pick Dexter Jackson could be on the roster bubble this summer.

Jackson was awful as a returner last year and lost the job to Pro Bowler Clifton Smith. Jackson will have to make the Bucs as a wideout, which isn't his strength. He'll probably stick around, but may be inactive on game days.

Bucs rookie Dexter Jackson is in danger of losing his return duties.

He was yanked from kickoff returns in Week 7 in favor of Michael Clayton, who presents a major downgrade in terms of speed. Jackson is averaging just 23 yards per kick return and a paltry 4.9 yards per punt return this year.

Bucs coach Jon Gruden reportedly left a note on Dexter Jackson's locker telling the second-round pick to "be ready" to play offense in Week 3.

Jackson will play off the bench behind Antonio Bryant and could add another dimension to the offense working in the slot. The Appalachian State product is explosive, but very small. He's only returned kicks to this point.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, Dexter Jackson will be the Bucs' "primary return man."

Jackson was believed to be behind Michael Spurlock on the kick and punt return depth charts as recently as three weeks ago, but the second-round pick has impressed the coaching staff. "Yeah, he's doing a good job of securing the ball and making good decisions," coach Jon Gruden said. "He's caught the ball well here on the field, so we feel good about that." While he's emerged with a big role on special teams, Jackson doesn't figure to see much action on offense as a rookie.
