Lions signed WR Devin Thomas to a reserve/future contract.
Thomas announced his retirement from football last August, but has apparently had a change of heart. Although the 34th overall pick in the 2008 draft never panned out as a receiver, Thomas was carving out a career as a special teams gunner before temporarily hanging up the cleats. He didn't play in 2012. Jan 17 - 4:15 PM

Bears WR Devin Thomas announced his retirement from football.

Thomas fell well short of expectations required for the 34th overall pick in the '08 draft, but he had carved out a career in recent seasons as a gung-ho special teamer. Apparently tired of doing the dirty work, Thomas calls it quits after 43 receptions, 482 yards, and three TDs over four NFL seasons.

The Chicago Tribune expects Devin Thomas and Dane Sanzenbacher to battle for the Bears' final receiver spot.

With Johnny Knox ailing, the Bears have addressed receiver in a big way, trading for Brandon Marshall while drafting Alshon Jeffery and signing Thomas and Eric Weems. Sanzenbacher's familiarity with the Bears' offense could give him a leg up on Thomas, but Thomas is the far superior athlete and also capable of helping out on returns. Neither player will contribute in fantasy leagues.

Bears signed WR Devin Thomas to a one-year contract.

Thomas has been a bust as the former 34th overall pick in the draft, but he made some big special teams plays during the Giants' Super Bowl run last year. Thomas is still only 25 years old and ran 4.32, 4.34 at the 2008 Scouting Combine at 6-foot-2, 215. We wouldn't rule out Thomas developing receiver skills, but his early-career track record certainly isn't promising.

Giants KR Devin Thomas (neck) practiced Wednesday.

Thankfully, Thomas' scary neck injury was just a stinger. It looked much more severe when he was down for at least five minutes and had to be immobilized before getting carted off. "I'll say like two minutes before I could really get my motions back," Thomas said. "It wasn't severe as I thought it was."

KR Devin Thomas appears to have suffered a stinger in the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Redskins.

It's a sigh of relief for Thomas. He was down for several minutes after taking a knee to the helmet when tackling Logan Paulsen Sunday. Here's what Thomas posted on Twitter: "Everyone i appreciate the love and prayers! Thank God im ok. It looks as if it was a stinger. Definately a scary moment."

Giants KR Devin Thomas left Sunday's game in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Thomas went down on the final play of the first half. He had to be stabilized and carted off. The good news is that Thomas had movement in his extremities.

The Giants have yanked Devin Thomas off kickoff return duties.

Thomas will likely now be a game-day scratch because he doesn't contribute on offense. The Giants are expected to turn to Da'Rel Scott and D.J. Ware on kickoff returns. Thomas was averaging a mediocre 23.7 yards per return and mishandled one in two of the last three games. Assuming he doesn't fumble, Scott would be the Giants' best option with 4.34 speed in the 40-yard dash.

Giants WR Devin Thomas is going to be out "awhile" with a dislocated finger.

The bone broke the skin, which sounds similar to Andre Johnson's recent injury. Unlike Johnson, Thomas can ill-afford to miss a week's worth of practices. He was already facing an uphill battle to make the final roster.

Giants WR Devin Thomas (hamstring) was held out of Thursday's practice.

For those owners with designs on adding Thomas in deeper leagues, this ought to serve as a deterrent. A hamstring pull this late in the season suggests Thomas isn't keeping himself in the best shape. That's hardly a surprise considering his history with the Redskins.

Giants claimed WR Devin Thomas off waivers from the Panthers.

The G-Men apparently won't be signing free agent Kevin Curtis, after all. Thomas, the 34th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft, can return kicks and play receiver in a pinch. He's unlikely to overtake Derek Hagan on the wideout depth chart before Steve Smith (pectoral) and/or Hakeem Nicks (leg) return.

Panthers waived WR Devin Thomas.

Thomas didn't catch a single pass and was active for just one game since being claimed by the Panthers six weeks ago. The Colts also put in a claim on Thomas in October, and depth remains an issue in Indy.

Panthers beat writer Darin Gantt doubts WR Devin Thomas will be active for the team's Week 9 game against New Orleans.

Thomas has yet to log a reception in 2010, and is a big long shot to have any fantasy impact for the rest of the season. He's buried on the depth chart.

Panthers WR Devin Thomas (groin) didn't make the team flight to St. Louis, and will not play Week 8.

Thomas should not be on fantasy radars after the Week 7 emergence of fellow wideouts David Gettis and Brandon LaFell. The 2008 second-round pick is buried on the Panthers' receiver depth chart.

Panthers WR Devin Thomas is doubtful for Week 8 after being limited by a groin injury in practice.

Carolina looked like a good spot for Thomas to finally earn playing time, but he's nowhere close to entering the receiver rotation with David Gettis and Brandon LaFell coming off their best games of the season.
