Former Colts RB Mike Hart has accepted a job on the coaching staff of Eastern Michigan University.
Nothing is official yet, but it appears that Hart has retired from the NFL. The all-time leading rusher at the University of Michigan suffered through three injury-plagued seasons in Indy, finishing with 71 carries for 264 yards and two touchdowns in 21 career games. Wed, Aug 17, 2011 12:09:00 PM

The Colts did not extend RB Mike Hart a restricted tender before the lockout, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Hart is a fan favorite in Indianapolis, but the 25-year-old has been extremely injury prone and only moderately effective as a ball carrier. His career YPC average is 3.72. The Colts didn't deem him worthy of the $1.2 million or so lowest possible tender, which isn't a great sign for Hart's value on the open market. Really, he's only a third-string caliber NFL back.

Colts declared RB Mike Hart, RB Javarris James, G Jacques McClendon, G Jaimie Thomas, DT Daniel Muir, LB Clint Session, CB Kelvin Hayden and S Al Afalava inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Joseph Addai, Dominic Rhodes and Donald Brown will form a three-headed monster at running back. The Colts will be playing all out in this must-win spot. A win guarantees them the AFC South title.

Mike Hart (ankle) has resumed practicing fully for the Colts.

Hart is finally getting back to full health after fighting the ankle sprain for two months. Unfortunately, he's lost his job with Dominic Rhodes playing well as Joseph Addai's committee partner.

RB Mike Hart did not travel with the Colts to Oakland on Saturday, and will miss Week 16 against the Raiders.

With Joseph Addai returning to health and expected to take on the Silver and Black, the Colts can afford to be conservative with Hart. Linebacker Clint Session (forearm) did not make the trip, either.

Colts RB Mike Hart (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 16.

He was a limited participant in practice all week. The Colts' beat writers haven't said one way or another whether they expect Hart to play against the Raiders. Expect him to be a third stringer if he's active for the game.

Colts RB Mike Hart (ankle) was limited again in Thursday's practice.

Hart is working his way back from an ankle injury that has essentially sidelined him for two months. With Dominic Rhodes back in the fold, the Colts can afford to ensure that Hart is back to 100 percent before activating him.

Colts RB Mike Hart (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

It's at least progress for Hart, who's been out since Week 8. With Joseph Addai apparently on his way back, Hart isn't headed for a big role in the last two regular season games. He's typically been No. 3 on the depth chart.

Mike Hart (ankle) missed practice again on Thursday.

He's not going to play this week. The Colts will go forward with Donald Brown and Javarris James. At this point, James has separated as the superior flex option.

Mike Hart (ankle) was held out of Wednesday's practice.

There was some hope that Hart would return this week after going through Monday's light workout, but it doesn't look like he has a realistic shot to play against the Jags. Though Donald Brown will likely draw the start again, Javarris James is a good bet to equal or even surpass his touches.

Mike Hart (ankle) went through Monday's light workout.

Hart aggravated an ankle injury in Week 13 and we're not too optimistic about his chances this weekend, though we won't get a real idea as to his status until later in the week. He's received carries in just one game since Week 9.

Colts RB Mike Hart (ankle) is listed as out for Week 14.

He had another setback in last week's loss. Donald Brown and Javarris James will handle backfield duties against Tennessee on Thursday night.

The Indianapolis Star does not expect the Colts to have Mike Hart (ankle) available for Thursday's game.

Hart aggravated the ankle injury that kept him out of action for a month, and he's yet to practice this week. After returning to practice Tuesday, Donald Brown (ankle) is the favorite to start against the Titans.

Mike Hart aggravated his left ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

The Colts have yet to provide any status updates, so it remains to be seen if he'll be ready to play in Week 14. Hart carried the ball just five times Sunday and makes for a poor bet for fantasy production down the stretch.

Mike Hart finished Sunday's Week 13 game against Dallas with only 8 yards on five carries and added two grabs for 1 yard.

Hart injured his ankle late in the third quarter and did not return. He'll likely undergo testing on Monday to determine the severity of his injury. The Colts' backfield is extremely crowded with Joseph Addai on the mend. Hart is a longshot for fantasy value down the stretch.
