Cardinals agreed to terms with CB Antoine Cason, formerly of the Chargers, on a one-year, $2 million contract.
Long and lean at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Cason is a good fit for DC Todd Bowles' preferred press coverage. Although he's started each of the past three seasons, Cason could be coming to town as the Cardinals' No. 3 corner after they gave Jerraud Powers a three-year, $10.5 million deal. Cason's size could land him on the outside when Powers moves to the slot in nickel packages. Cason is coming off a year where he notched 73 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles, but graded out as the sixth worst cornerback in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Mar 15 - 5:42 PM

The Dolphins have reportedly "cooled" on free agent CB Antoine Cason.

The free-spending Dolphins haven't shown much urgency at cornerback. Perhaps they have someone like Cary Williams in mind, or maybe they'll address the position in the draft. Cason has drawn light interest from Jacksonville, Carolina, and Washington, but his only known visit was to the Cardinals.

Free agent CB Antoine Cason is visiting the Cardinals.

Teams have been after Cason. He has also been linked to the Redskins, Browns, Lions, and Dolphins. He fits the mold for Todd Bowles' defense as a press corner with good length. Cason played college ball at the University of Arizona.
Mar 13 - 2:00 PM

The Redskins have reportedly reached out to free agent CB Antoine Cason.

Cason has now been linked to the 'Skins, Browns, Lions and Dolphins. As a 26-year-old press corner with good size, it's not a surprise. He could end up costing upwards of $5 million per year.

The Lions "remain interested" in CB Antoine Cason as free agency approaches.

26-year-old Cason would be a strong fit for Lions DC Gunther Cunningham's press-man scheme. The Lions are also interested in re-signing Chris Houston.
Mar 11 - 11:35 PM

The Browns and Lions have shown interest in free agent CB Antoine Cason.

The Chargers are reportedly "still in the mix." New Browns DC Ray Horton likes his corners to be taller and able tacklers, and Cason fits the bill. Cason also has ties to OC Norv Turner and coach Rob Chudzinski from their days together in San Diego. The 26-year-old will have plenty of suitors.

Sirius XM Radio's Adam Caplan passes along buzz that "multiple teams" are in the mix for free agent CB Antoine Cason.

The Colts would make sense as a team that plays press-man in the secondary and recently hired former Chargers exec Jimmy Raye. Indianapolis is also needy at corner. Cason is 26 years old. He was the 27th overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Mar 9 - 1:09 AM

The Arizona Republic specifically mentions free agent CB Antoine Cason as a player that "makes sense" for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are as thin as it gets at the cornerback spot after the release of William Gay last week. Cason is a bigger corner, which is how new DC Todd Bowles likes his corners to be. The Union-Tribune San Diego predicted last month that Cason could get upwards of $5 million annually on the open market.
Mar 4 - 6:08 PM

The Union-Tribune San Diego believes that impending free agent CB Antoine Cason will get at least $5 million annually in free agency, and "probably more."

Cason came on late in 2012 to finish with 73 tackles, two interceptions, and 11 pass deflections as a 16-game starter. While San Diego has expressed interest in bringing him back, he likely won't be returning on a team-friendly contract. Shareece Wright and Marcus Gilchrist are the only other corners on the Chargers' roster with NFL experience.

Chargers RCB Antoine Cason will recover his old starting job from rookie Marcus Gilchrist for Week 10's Thursday night matchup with the Raiders.

Gilchrist was destroyed by Jordy Nelson and had to be pulled from Week 9's shootout, and we're guessing that Norv Turner wants to give him time to get his confidence back. Cason hasn't been much better, giving up three TDs to Plaxico Burress the week before. Unfortunately, this coverage issue isn't much help to owners of Raiders receivers, who lack a week-to-week clarity in the game plan.

There's a "strong chance" Chargers RCB Antoine Cason is benched in favor of rookie Marcus Gilchrist, sources tell the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Cason was lit up by Plaxico Burress Sunday and has been inconsistent all year. "We're going to address that," coach Norv Turner said Monday. "We don't have to make that decision right now. We're going to evaluate the two guys through the week." Gilchrist impressed in a Week 4 spot start in place of Quentin Jammer. The Chargers are still ranked third against the pass heading into Monday's game against the Chiefs.

Chargers RCB Antoine Cason (broken finger) returned to team drills Sunday.

Cason worked out with a giant cast on his right hand. He'll get the reps he needs even if he won't put the finger in harm's way. An emerging player in his fourth year, Cason will start across from Quentin Jammer in Week 1.

Chargers CB Antoine Cason was given a 2-4 week timetable after Monday's surgery to repair a broken finger.

The starter opposite Quentin Jammer will be back well before the start of the season. Cason had been projected as the primary punt returner, so this could be an opening for rookies Marcus Gilchrist and Jordan Todman to seize the job.

Chargers CB Antoine Cason broke a finger on his right hand during Sunday's practice.

Cason will undergo surgery Monday after X-rays revealed a "severe break." A timetable for his return is unknown, but corners can often play with a "club" if need be. However, Cason's projected role as a punt returner may have to wait.

Chargers RCB Antoine Cason allowed just 51 percent of the passes thrown his way to be completed last season.

It was the seventh best mark in the NFL among corners targeted 90 or more times. Cason chipped in four interceptions and 17 pass breakups, both team highs. The former No. 27 overall pick may surpass Quentin Jammer as San Diego's No. 1 corner in 2011. Jammer is still playing at a high level, but turns 32 in June.
