Former Ravens, Bears, and Colts S Tom Zbikowski has retired from football.
He'll begin training for the Chicago Fire Department next month. Only 28, Zbikowski revealed he recently lost his love for football and reported to Bears camp this summer out of shape. A heavy drinker, Zbikowski estimates he played at least 12 of his 64 career games with a "massive hangover." "I'm the only guy who can drink six beers, then spar 10 rounds on the same day," he said. NFL suspended free agent S Tom Zbikowski four weeks for violating the league's PED policy.

The Chicago Tribune doesn't expect S Tom Zbikowski to make the Bears.

Zbikowski was signed to a one-year deal, a year after starting 11 games for the Colts. He's a quality special teams player but was always miscast as a starting NFL safety. Zbikowski has fallen all the way to the fourth-team defense.

Bears agreed to terms with S Tom Zbikowski, formerly of the Colts, on a one-year contract.

Zbikowski was released by the Colts last week after Indianapolis inked LaRon Landry as his replacement. Zbikowski is from the Chicago area, and he has 25 career starts under his belt. He recorded 38 tackles, five pass breakups, and an interception last season. Zbikowski will be the No. 3 safety behind starters Chris Conte and Major Wright, while also playing special teams.

Colts released S Tom Zbikowski.

28-year-old Zbikowski was owed a $1.5 million base salary. His release saves the Colts just over $1 million versus the cap, not that they needed the room. In 11 starts last year, Zbikowski managed 38 tackles, one interception, and one sack. Assuming he doesn't take up boxing full time, Zbikowski should be able to latch on elsewhere as a third safety and special teams gunner.

Colts FS Tom Zbikowski (knee) expects to play in Sunday's Wild Card matchup with the Ravens.

Zbikowski missed the last five games of the regular season with a knee injury, but returned to practice this week and told reporters he'll play despite being listed as questionable. With Zbikowski finally healthy, the Colts will no longer be stuck with Joe Lefeged in their starting lineup. DE Cory Redding (probable, quad) is also expected to return after sitting out the Week 17 finale.

Colts declared FS Tom Zbikowski (knee) inactive for Sunday's Week 17 game against the Texans.

Zbikowski will miss his fifth straight game and has been replaced by Joe Lefeged in the starting lineup. Also inactive for the Colts are RB Delone Carter, C Samson Satele, DE Cory Redding, OT Tony Hills, WR Nathan Palmer, and NT Antonio Johnson. Lawrence Guy, who was signed off the Packers' practice squad earlier this year, will make his first career start in place of Redding.

Colts FS Tom Zbikowski (leg) has been ruled out for Week 13.

Colts SS Tom Zbikowski left Sunday's Week 12 game against the Bills with a shin injury.

Zbikowski intercepted a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass in the fourth quarter and fumbled it back to the Bills then left the contest. Sergio Brown is his back-up.

Colts signed S Tom Zbikowski to a three-year contract.

Zbikowski is following his former boss Chuck Pagano to the Colts. Zbikowski opened 2011 as the Ravens' starting strong safety, but quickly lost his job to Bernard Pollard. He ended up playing just 228 snaps in 14 games. He'll compete with Joe Lefeged for playing time in Indy.

The Ravens are expected to let S Tom Zbikowski walk in free agency.

They'd prefer to re-sign fellow free agent Haruki Nakamura. Zbikowski was bounced out of the starting lineup by Bernard Pollard in 2011, and the fact that he missed multiple games with a concussion won't help his free agent stock. The Notre Dame alumnus has managed two career interceptions in 53 games.

Ravens SS Tom Zbikowski, LB Dannell Ellerbe, and CB Jimmy Smith have all been cleared to resume playing after sustaining concussions late in the regular season.

Anquan Boldin (knee) is also fine for this week's game. The Ravens secondary will need the reinforcements of Smith and Zbikowski with Andre Johnson returning to provide a vertical threat.
