Patriots re-signed DT Marcus Harrison.
Harrison spent one day on the Patriots' active roster last season, but was otherwise out of the league. He's just three years removed from starting nine games for the Bears, but will be facing long odds of cracking the 53-man roster. Thu, Mar 15, 2012 05:39:00 PM

Harrison's Patriots tenure ended up lasting all of one day. His roster spot has been taken by CB Sterling Moore, who could be active as a special teamer on Sunday against the Cowboys.

Patriots signed DT Marcus Harrison, formerly of the Bears.

The 2008 third-rounder totaled 55 tackles and three sacks in three seasons with the Bears. He'll add depth up front with Mike Wright (concussion) out for the season.

Updating a previous item, free agent DT Marcus Harrison failed his Panthers physical due to a knee injury.

Harrison tore his ACL as a senior at Arkansas, but the knee isn't known to have given him trouble since. It now looks like a concern. Harrison can't keep himself in shape, so he may struggle to resurface if the knee now needs surgery.

Marcus Harrison flunked his physical with the Panthers and will revert to waivers.

The Browns also put in an initial waiver claim, so perhaps they'll reenter the bidding. Harrison is probably out of shape; no particular injury is known. Long on potential, Harrison has been short on production his whole career.

Panthers claimed DT Marcus Harrison off waivers from the Bears.

The Browns also put in a claim. Harrison was cut by Chicago after arriving to camp out of shape. He started nine of 37 games with the Bears since being drafted in 2007. Harrison may end up pushing for a starting job on a Carolina team lacking a surefire nose tackle.

Bears waived DT Marcus Harrison.

Harrison blew his chance at making the roster after showing up to training camp out of shape. Now 27, he's appeared in 37 games the past three seasons, starting just nine of them. He has 55 career tackles and three sacks to his name.

Bears DT Marcus Harrison has been cleared to practice after reporting to training camp overweight.

Harrison was held out of the Bears' first five practices before finally being allowed to take the field on Friday evening. Speaking about Harrison yesterday, HC Lovie Smith said he needed to "get back in the mix" since the Bears "have a lot of competition" along their defensive line. In other words, he's in serious danger of being waived if he doesn't show something.

Bears DT Marcus Harrison is still not allowed to practice in training camp because he's overweight.

The Chicago Tribune suggests Harrison is on the verge of being waived. "I'm concerned any time somebody's not practicing," defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said. "Very concerned about that." Harrison has never been a Marinelli favorite. The Bears could take themselves off the hook for his $1.2M salary by cutting him.

Updating an earlier item, Bears DT Marcus Harrison will not be allowed to practice until he gets down to 316 pounds.

He reported to camp at 327 pounds. The Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure reports Harrison could be back on the field as early as Sunday if he "shows progress," but he's expected to make weight by no later than Thursday. The sooner, the better for a player firmly on the Bears' roster bubble.

DT Marcus Harrison has reportedly shown up at Bears camp overweight, and will not be allowed to practice until he gets in better shape.

Coming off a season in which he appeared in just 8.9 percent of the Bears' defensive snaps, Harrison is a strong candidate for release after showing up overweight for the second time in three years. His only shot at making the Bears' 53-man roster could be if second-round pick Stephen Paea doesn't appear ready for a meaningful role.

Bears DT Marcus Harrison played just 8.9 percent of the team's defensive snaps in 2010.

To be specific, his total snap count for the year fell from 597 in 2009 to 96, and it wasn't because of injury. Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has questioned Harrison's motor. The former third-round pick is due a $1.2 million base salary in 2011, and will not be a lock for the 53-man roster.

Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli questioned DT Marcus Harrison's motor.

Harrison was inactive for 11 games a year ago despite decent talent. With Tommie Harris released, the 2008 third-round pick needs has an opportunity for playing time but appears to be behind Henry Melton and Matt Toeania.

Bears DT Marcus Harrison's 2011 salary has jumped from $550,000 to $1.2 million based on playing time.

It wasn't based on 2010 playing time, though. Once viewed as Chicago's nose tackle of the future, Harrison was active for only five games as a third-year pro and was a healthy scratch for the final six contests, including the playoffs. His role and roster spot are both up in the air heading to 2011.

One NFL scout told the Chicago Tribune that he believes the Bears are better off with Marcus Harrison at "under tackle" than Tommie Harris.

Drafted to play nose tackle, Harrison showed better penetration skills than Harris for much of 2009. Harris, though, was playing hurt, and the Bears are sticking with him. Harrison is currently practicing as Harris' primary backup.
