Raiders waived WR Will Franklin.
Franklin's sub-4.4 speed may buy him another chance, but he never climbed up an awful Raiders receiver depth chart. It's a bad sign for his future. Mon, Aug 31, 2009 05:54:00 PM

Raiders claimed WR Will Franklin off waivers from the Lions.

A fourth-round pick last year, Franklin joins a franchise where he has an opportunity to quickly climb the depth chart. If Javon Walker can't get his knee healthy, Franklin could open the season as the fourth or fifth receiver.

Lions released WR Will Franklin.

Franklin was just claimed off waivers from the Chiefs a month ago. He was no longer in the Lions' plans after the team signed Ronald Curry and drafted Penn State's Derrick Williams in the third round. The Raiders, Rams, Colts, and Eagles put in claims for Franklin last month.

Lions claimed WR Will Franklin off waivers from the Chiefs.

The Raiders, Rams, Colts, and Eagles put in claims but the Lions had first dibs because of their 0-16 record. While a knee injury kept Franklin low on KC's depth chart as a rookie, he has a rare combination of speed (4.37) and size (6'2/205). He should have a strong shot at a roster spot.

Chiefs waived WR Will Franklin.

Franklin, the club's 2008 fourth-round pick, must have done something wrong in the offseason program because he was one of the Chiefs' few young receivers with potential. The 23-year-old speedster caught seven passes in 13 games as a rookie. Franklin figures to be claimed off waivers soon.

Chiefs declared WR Will Franklin, QB Ingle Martin IV, QB Brodie Croyle, RB Dantrell Savage, CB Maurice Leggett, LB Napoleon Harris, G Brian De La Puente, and T Barry Richardson inactive for Week 2.

Jeff Webb will continue to run as Kansas City's third receiver.

Chiefs WR Will Franklin (knee) has resumed practicing fully.

Franklin could add some explosiveness to Kansas City's attack off the bench in Week 2 against the Raiders. DeAngelo Hall did a great job in Week 1 of proving that he can be lit up by rookie wide receivers.

Chiefs declare WR Will Franklin, WR Maurice Price, RB Kolby Smith, LB Napoleon Harris, G Brian De La Puente, T Barry Richardson, DT T.J. Jackson, and QB Tyler Thigpen inactive for Week 1.

Jeff Webb is the third receiver. No surprises here.

Chiefs third receiver Will Franklin (knee surgery) says he is currently at 80-85 percent.

The rookie is questionable to play in Kansas City's season opener. Franklin is the team's primary slot receiver, but the Chiefs are unlikely to go three wide often under conservative new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Chiefs rookie Will Franklin underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss at least two weeks.

He probably won't play at New England in Week 1, but could return for the Chiefs' Week 2 game versus Oakland. This kills any chance Franklin had of passing Devard Darling to start. Maurice Price and Jeff Webb are candidates to fill in Kansas City's third receiver in the meantime.

Chiefs rookie WR Will Franklin is doubtful for Saturday's preseason game after injuring his right knee Thursday.

RB Jamaal Charles was also held out of practice Thursday with a nagging shoulder injury. He and Franklin could be limited up until Week 1.

Rookie Will Franklin caught two passes for 31 yards as the Chiefs won their preseason opener over Chicago 24-20 Thursday night.

However, Franklin played behind Devard Darling and fell down coming out of a break, costing him a chance at a long gain. Franklin's main competition for the third receiver job, Maurice Price, caught two passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. Likely fourth wideout Jeff Webb had two grabs for 29.

Chiefs writer Jason Whitlock calls rookie Will Franklin the team's "No. 3/slot receiver."

Franklin has clearly pulled ahead of Maurice Price and Jeff Webb. Devard Darling is still in Franklin's way to start. Since the Chiefs' offense is likely to be very bad, they could make numerous in-season lineup changes. Expect Franklin to see some starts this year.

As the Chiefs opened training camp, rookie Will Franklin was first off the bench when the team practiced three-receiver sets.

It appears he's moved past Jeff Webb and Maurice Price, with only Devard Darling left in Franklin's way to start. Darling and Franklin have both impressed so far, but Franklin's physical attributes compare favorably to Darling's and the Chiefs love rookies, so he could get a real chance to start.

Chiefs agreed to terms with fourth-round WR Will Franklin on a four-year contract.

Franklin did not look out of place at OTAs and will enter training camp with an outside chance to start. Devard Darling is the favorite, but shouldn't be handed anything. Franklin's physical skills are just as good, if not better. Maurice Price and Jeff Webb are also in the mix opposite Dwayne Bowe.
