Colts released S DaJuan Morgan.

This comes as a big surprise, as Morgan was expected to start at strong safety in the place of Melvin Bullitt (shoulder). Journeyman Aaron Francisco, undrafted rookie Mike Newton, or rookie Brandon King will likely draw the start in place of Morgan.

Beat writer Phillip Wilson guesses that DaJuan Morgan will start at strong safety this week.

With Bob Sanders (bicep) and Melvin Bullitt (shoulder) both sidelined, Morgan is being thrown into the fire just a few weeks after being signed off the street. He's not much of an IDP option, even for desperate owners. Bullitt had just 14 tackles in his first four games.

Colts signed S DaJuan Morgan, formerly of the Chiefs.

Morgan was dumped by the Chiefs on cutdown day earlier this month. With Bob Sanders (biceps) sidelined again, Morgan will back up Melvin Bullitt and can help on special teams.

Chiefs released S DeJuan Morgan, QB Tyler Palko, OG Colin Brown, LB David Herron, LB Pierre Walters, and WR Verran Tucker.

Mostly a special teamer, the 82nd overall pick in the 2008 draft did end up making a few spot starts in the Chiefs' woebegone secondary last season. Palko has spent time with the Saints, Steelers, and Cardinals since going undrafted in 2007.

Chiefs placed S DeJuan Morgan (chest) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Morgan was mostly a special teamer, but had a few spot starts in the secondary this season. He'll be back next year to compete for a roster spot, though one isn't guaranteed for the underachieving former Carl Peterson pick.

Chiefs FS DaJuan Morgan is expected to make his first career start in Week 9 with Jon McGraw (undisclosed) likely to be inactive.

The special teamer has just 15 tackles in his two-year career. This week's matchup provides Jacksonville with an opportunity to get its passing game back on track, though the Jaguars have indicated that they'll go run heavy.

The KC Star suggests that Mike Brown's signing indicates the Chiefs are "disappointed" in second-year S DaJuan Morgan.

Maybe, but we doubt it. Morgan, last year's 82nd overall pick, was drafted by the old staff and hasn't pushed for a starting job. He is a legit option at safety, however, and Brown's signing simply gives Kansas City backups behind both Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard. Fifth S Jon McGraw is only a gunner.

The Kansas City Star suggests that rookie DaJuan Morgan could move into the Chiefs' starting lineup by the end of the season.

Morgan isn't necessarily a free safety or a strong safety, but we suspect that FS Jarrad Page is more at risk of being supplanted than enforcing SS Bernard Pollard. Morgan will begin the season playing special teams.

Chiefs agreed to terms with third-round S DaJuan Morgan on a three-year contract.

Morgan, the 82nd selection overall, isn't a liability in any area but no part of his game sticks out either. He has an uphill climb for defensive playing time behind young starters Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard. Morgan's best bet would be to try to unseat Page, whose contract expires after the season.

Chiefs selected N.C. State safety DaJuan Morgan.

After concentrating on offense early in day two, Kansas City takes another thumper for their secondary. He is a decent cover guy, so Morgan could wind up playing on nickel downs.
