The Cowboys failed to tender exclusive rights free agent RB Chauncey Washington, making him an unrestricted free agent.
A seventh-round pick by Jacksonville back in 2008, Washington bounced all over the league before landing on Dallas' practice squad in 2011. Reports that he was overweight last season suggest he may never get a chance to add to his five career carries. Thu, Apr 5, 2012 10:06:00 AM

Cowboys promoted RB Chauncey Washington from their practice squad.

It's a sign that the Cowboys might at least consider holding Felix Jones (hamstring) out of Saturday's 4PM game if the Giants beat the Jets at 1PM ET. Washington would then back up Sammy Morris against the Eagles.

ESPN Dallas reports the Cowboys plan to promote RB Chauncey Washington from the practice squad.

It's another bad sign for Felix Jones (hamstring), who has yet to practice this week. Jones may end up starting the game against the Eagles, but Washington and Sammy Morris would likely carry the load if the Giants beat the Jets in the early game.

Chauncey Washington may be called up from the practice squad with DeMarco Murray (ankle) out for the year.

The Cowboys lost Phillip Tanner (hamstring) to injured reserve last week, so Felix Jones is the only tailback currently on the active roster. Washington only has seven games of NFL experience in four seasons, but there's not much on the street at this point. He'd be strict insurance behind Jones.

Rams waived RB Chauncey Washington.

The 25-year-old was deemed expendable after St. Louis signed up Jerious Norwood and Cadillac Williams. Washington can play some special teams and contribute as a short-yardage back, but his future in the NFL is bleak at best.

Rams signed RB Chauncey Washington, WRs Joe West and Greg Mathews, OLs Ryan McKee and Drew Miller, DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, LB Maurice Simpkins, QB Thaddeus Lewis, and CB Marquis Johnson to futures contracts.

Lewis beat out Keith Null in training camp, ultimately landing on the practice squad. Washington has been pigeonholed as a special teamer. Johnson bookended Kareem Jackson at Alabama. He was a 2010 seventh-round pick.

Rams waived RB Chauncey Washington.

Washington was on the roster as an insurance policy when Steven Jackson was battling an early-season groin injury. S-Jax is now back to full speed.

Chauncey Washington is expected to focus on special teams even if Steven Jackson (groin) sits on Sunday.

Washington is a decent runner, but he was added so that Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston can devote all their attention to offense. Washington won't get any carries this week no matter what.

Rams signed RB Chauncey Washington off the Jets' practice squad.

The Rams were already thin at running back before Steven Jackson's groin injury. Washington offers some insurance, and he's a valuable special teams player even if he doesn't see a snap on offense. Jackson's status for Week 4 is unclear at the moment.

Jets signed RB Chauncey Washington and DL Jarron Gilbert to their practice squad.

Washington was angry about not making the 53-man roster, but he'll settle for the practice squad. Gilbert was originally claimed off waivers by the Jets, but they threw him back after being awarded Marcus Dixon.

Jets waived RB Chauncey Washington.

Washington did well on special teams in the preseason, but the Jets gave the nod to Danny Woodhead and rookie Joe McKnight. Washington is reportedly "fuming" about the decision, and we can't blame him. He would've been more useful than McKnight, who will be a game-day scratch on most Sundays.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum is excited about backup RB Chauncey Washington, according to the New York Daily News.

The Jets are expected to retain restricted free agent Leon Washington and could also pursue running back help in the draft and free agency. But as it stands now, Chauncey Washington is in the mix for No. 3 running back along with Danny Woodhead. We doubt the Jets are truly comfortable with Washington, a practice squad type, getting carries.

Jets declared RB Chauncey Washington, QB Erik Ainge, G Matt Slauson, LB Kenwin Cummings, DL Ropati Pitoitua, WR David Clowney, LB Marques Murrell, and third QB Kevin O'Connell inactive for Sunday's playoff game.

Clowney lost his third receiver position to Brad Smith several weeks back. Other than him, there are no notable inactives here. The Jets are healthy.

Jets declared RB Chauncey Washington, DE Ropati Pitoitua, LB Marques Murrell, DT Howard Green, third QB Erik Ainge, QB Kevin O'Connell, LB Kenwin Cummings, and G Matt Slauson inactive for Week 16.

No surprises here. Braylon Edwards (knee) is active and starting.

Jets declared RB Chauncey Washington, CB Marquice Cole, LB Kenwin Cummings, G Rob Turner, WR David Clowney, LB Marques Murrell and third QB Erik Ainge inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Shonn Greene's role as the backup is safe with Washington inactive. It is not snowing at the Meadowlands but it's 29 degrees with winds at 15-23 mph.
