Giants DB Terrell Thomas' one-year contract has a base value of $700,000, with an additional $500,000 available via incentives.
Thomas received a $630,000 base salary, $35,000 signing bonus, and $35,000 offseason workout bonus. It's quite a fall from his previously scheduled $6.75 million. The new deal leaves open the possibility that the Giants could cut Thomas before Week 1 with very little sunk cost. Thomas, 28, is trying to mimic Panthers LB Thomas Davis' return from a third career ACL reconstruction. Feb 12 - 2:58 PM

Giants signed DB Terrell Thomas to a restructured contract.

Financial details should emerge this week, but it's expected to be a one-year, "prove-it" type deal where Thomas plays out the 2013 season in hopes of improving his 2014 market value. Thomas has torn his right ACL three times, the latest occurring in one of the first practices of 2012 training camp. He is expected to compete for sub-package duties at cornerback and/or safety this summer.

Giants DB Terrell Thomas (torn ACL) resumed jogging Tuesday.

Thomas is very familiar with the rehab process as this is his third ACL tear. "Overall no swelling, pain or discomfort so the first day of running really felt great," he said. The Giants will release Thomas before his $6 million bonus is due in March, but could bring him back on a minimum deal. GM Jerry Reese has already suggested that Thomas may be better off moving to safety going forward.

Giants DB Terrell Thomas (torn ACL) will begin running next week.

"Everything has been progressing smoothly as I begin to add more weight and lunges to my routine," Thomas said via his personal blog. Thomas had his ACL in his right knee surgically-repaired for the third time in his career in mid-September. If he returns to the Giants in 2013, GM Jerry Reese suggests Thomas could move to safety to take some pressure off his knees.

Giants DB Terrell Thomas suggested that he's expecting to be cut by the Giants.

Thomas is technically under contract through 2015. But he's coming off three ACL tears and only $1 million of the $17.4 million deal he got last March was guaranteed. "I am returning to football in 2013, hopefully with the Giants but my (contract) is up this year," Thomas wrote on his blog. "Most likely and hopefully I will be resigning with the Giants." GM Jerry Reese has already suggested that if Thomas is brought back, he might be moved to safety.

Giants GM Jerry Reese suggested that CB Terrell Thomas will be considered at safety if he's able to return from his third ACL surgery.

"We will definitely reach out to him and see where he is, and see if he is going to be able to try to make another comeback," Reese said. "You might have to move him to a different position like safety instead of playing corner. Because a couple ACLs playing corner is tough to do."

Giants CB Terrell Thomas reportedly underwent surgery this week to repair his right ACL for the third time.

After missing all of last season with a torn ACL, Thomas aggravated the injury early in training camp. He had originally opted for rehab, but the knee wasn't responding. The Giants subsequently placed Thomas on injured reserve. After a recent scope, it was discovered that his ACL was indeed partially torn, necessitating reconstructive surgery once again. Thomas is done for the year and won't be receiving his $6 million option bonus next offseason.

Giants placed CB Terrell Thomas (knee) and DT Shaun Rogers (leg) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.

Thomas thought he could come back quickly with rehab after aggravating his surgically repaired knee early in camp, but the Giants were more pessimistic. Prince Amukamara is expected to start at right corner when he returns from his ankle sprain. Rogers impressed earlier in the month before coming down with a blood clot in his leg.

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas (knee) hopes to be cleared to resume running later this week.

Thomas is hoping to be ready for next Wednesday's opener, but coach Tom Coughlin has said it's not a realistic goal. Thomas is tentatively expected to return sometime in October. "I feel great," Thomas said. "I feel like I'm improving, my leg feels great, but I think they're going to be cautious and slow me down as much as possible and give it a couple of more weeks. But you never know."

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas (knee) is still aiming for a Week 1 return.

"I am getting back to my old self (and) my goal is to still play in the season's opener," Thomas wrote on his website. "... All the signs are showing of my return coming back with a strong and healthy knee are all positive." A Week 1 return would be optimal for the Giants after Prince Amukamara suffered a high-ankle sprain in Friday's preseason game, but Thomas has yet to even resume practicing. Team sources tell the NY Daily News he's unlikely to play before October.

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas (knee) "feels great," but remains without a return date.

"The (doctor) told me that if it feels good at three weeks I’m going to wait another week," Thomas said. "That’s just the game plan right now, to give it as much time as possible to let it heal. I’m not going to lose any strength. It’s just getting back in shape, running, and getting comfortable out there." Thomas is at high risk of a setback, but it's encouraging he's gone over two weeks without one. He won't be ready for Week 1, but his 2012 arrow is pointing up.

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas is characterizing his latest ACL injury as a "minor scare," and anticipates missing no more than eight weeks.

Thomas' undefined timeline for recovery is 3-8 weeks. Doctors believe he "stretched" and "aggravated" the right ACL, which was surgically reconstructed last year. While the Giants and Thomas are optimistic he will play this season, he will have to avoid setbacks during the recovery period in order to do so. Prince Amukamara is likely to open the season as a starter.

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas (knee) has been officially diagnosed with a "stretched" and "aggravated" ACL, and could be sidelined as little as 3-5 weeks.

That's provided he avoids setbacks on an unstable right knee. Regardless, coach Tom Coughlin admitted the prognosis was a "best-case scenario." Thomas almost certainly won't be ready for Week 1, but isn't a candidate for the reserve/PUP list since he didn't begin training camp on the active/PUP.

Giants RCB Terrell Thomas did not undergo an exploratory scope on his ailing right knee, and will attempt to heal through rehab.

Thomas is returning to Giants camp, but is without a timetable for a return to practice. According to coach Tom Coughlin, Thomas is in "no pain," and feels "very positive." It's extremely good news, but Thomas has a long way to go before proving he's healthy, and is unlikely to be ready for Week 1. The odds of a setback with Thomas' twice surgically-repaired right knee are high. Prince Amukamara should open the year as a starter opposite Corey Webster.

Updating previous items, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that doctors who've examined Giants RCB Terrell Thomas do NOT believe Thomas' ACL is torn and are optimistic he will play football this season.

Numerous previous reports -- including one from ESPN -- indicated that Thomas' ACL was at least partially torn and would require surgery. So this latest news is a huge breath of fresh air for the Giants' organization. Per Schefter, Thomas will go down to Pensacola on Tuesday for an examination from Dr. James Andrews. But signs now point to Thomas avoiding his third career ACL tear, which would have been a year-ending and career-threatening injury.
