Cardinals signed G Chilo Rachal, formerly of the Bears.
Rachal was among the worst starting guards in the league last season before getting benched in favor of Chris Spencer. He then simply abandoned the team for a day and ended up finishing out the season on the reserve/non-football injury list. Bears placed LG Chilo Rachal on the reserve/non-football injury list.

The move ends Rachal's season, and likely his career in Chicago. Rachal is only 26, but was beaten like a drum before his benching, and has certainly raised more questions about his character by leaving the team on Wednesday. He's unlikely to get any guaranteed money this offseason.

Bears LG Chilo Rachal (reserve/left squad list) was already back at the Bears' training facility Thursday morning.

That didn't take long. However, according to the Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure, Rachal's emotional state remains "very bad." Although Rachal is indeed back with the team, it's unknown when/if he'll be reinstated. He had five days to return after being placed on the list Wednesday. Chris Spencer will be at left guard against the Vikings, and for the foreseeable future.

The Chicago Tribune reports LG Chilo Rachal (reserve/left squad list) became upset upon learning he was being replaced in the starting lineup by Chris Spencer, and "just left."

It's a foolish decision that will cost Rachal game checks, and likely punch his ticket out of town. Rachal has been ineffective all season, but got dismantled in Monday night's loss to San Francisco. Chris Spencer is hardly an upgrade, but he shouldn't be a demonstrable downgrade. A head-case throughout his five-year career, Rachal could be running out of chances.

Bears placed LG Chilo Rachal on the reserve/left squad list.

G/T James Brown has been promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rachal has left the team for "personal reasons." It's unclear when, or if, he'll be back. An eight-game starter this season, Rachal got absolutely toasted in Monday night's embarrassing loss, and has graded out as the fifth-worst guard in the league by Pro Football Focus. It's unclear who will step in at left guard, but it's unlikely to be Brown. Chris Spencer is the most likely candidate.

Bears OG Chilo Rachal has dropped "30 some pounds" from last summer, now weighing in at a svelte 310.

"I'm in real good shape," Rachal said. "I feel explosive. I can move good." With size and athleticism well-suited to pull in OC Mike Tice's rushing attack, Rachal is going to give LG Chris Spencer a run for the starting job this summer.

Bears agreed to terms with OG Chilo Rachal, formerly of the 49ers, on a one-year contract.

The 2008 second-rounder is a worthwhile reclamation project. Rachal lost his starting job early last season after emerging as a quality run blocker in 2010. He should give veteran RG Chris Spencer a run for the starting job in Chicago.

Free agent OG Chilo Rachal is visiting the Rams.

Rachal could make for an interesting addition in St. Louis, where the Rams have a vacancy at left guard. Although he lost his job due to poor play early last season, Rachal was Pro Football Focus' top run-blocking guard in 2010. He started 38 games in four seasons with the 49ers.

The 49ers are not expected to re-sign free agent OG Chilo Rachal for 2012.

After a standout 2010 season, Rachal lost his starting job early under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh and watched Adam Snyder play right guard the rest of the way. Still only 26 and the former 39th pick in the draft, Rachal may draw interest from the linemen-needy Redskins. Rachal should come cheap, and Washington OL coach Chris Foerster was Rachal's position coach in 2009-2010.

49ers RG Chilo Rachal was benched in favor of Adam Snyder during Sunday's win over the Bengals.

Rachal committed three penalties and gave up two sacks in the first half. He only played in "heavy" packages in the second half. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the job is now up for grabs. "To be determined," Harbaugh said about his starting right guard. "There's a competition there." Frank Gore should want Rachal in there as the better run blocker.

Pro Football Focus rates Chilo Rachal as the best run-blocking right guard in football last season.

Rachal struggled at times in pass protection -- particularly against Bucs DT Gerald McCoy -- but he's become a mauler in ground game. The No. 39 overall pick in the 2008 draft is now the Niners' top interior offensive lineman after surviving a sophomore slump in 2009.

Chilo Rachal has been reinstalled as the 49ers' starting right guard after being benched in Week 10.

Rachal was pulled out of the lineup for Adam Snyder because he missed practice time to be with his newly born son, but not for disciplinary reasons. He just hadn't taken enough reps, coach Mike Singletary determined. "I was in favor of him missing practice," said Singletary. "I have seven kids."

49ers RG Chilo Rachal was benched for Week 10 after missing practice time last week to be with his newly born son.

Rachal did enter the game, but not before fill-in RG Adam Snyder left with a sprained ankle. What's unclear is whether Rachal was benched for discipline, or simply because Mike Singletary didn't feel comfortable starting him after missed practice time. Since a slow start, Rachal has been one of San Francisco's better run blockers on the offensive line.

49ers RG Chilo Rachal left Sunday's loss to the Panthers in the first quarter with a stinger and did not return.

Rachal was replaced by Adam Snyder. Stingers rarely keep players out for entire games, so we'll see if there is more to this story.
