Eddie Royal (hip) is questionable for Saturday's preseason game.
Royal didn't practice Wednesday due to a hip issue. With Alshon Jeffery, Kevin White, and Marquess Wilson sidelined, it's the latest setback to the Bears receiver depth. Coach John Fox didn't seem overly concerned with Royal's injury. Royal should be considered day to day. Aug 26 - 5:05 PM

Bears slot WR Eddie Royal is prepared to spend more time on the outside in the absence of Kevin White (shin).

"I've been trying to learn the whole system just so if anything happens that I'll be able to step in and play wherever," Royal said. It shouldn't be a difficult transition for Royal, who has plenty of experience on the outside. Royal will be an every-down player in White's absence, lining up at "Z" in two-receiver sets and then kicking inside when the Bears go three wide. Marquess Wilson will man the outside when Royal is in the slot.
Aug 17 - 3:11 PM

The Chicago Sun-Times' Patrick Finley called WR Eddie Royal "the camp MVP."

Royal has earned nothing but rave reviews since signing with the Bears in March. With Kevin White (shin) perhaps done for the season and Alshon Jeffery hobbled by a calf injury, Royal should open the season as a big part of Chicago's offense. He is a value pick in the 12th round.
Aug 17 - 12:09 PM

According to the Chicago Tribune, there's "belief throughout the organization" that Eddie Royal could "ignite" the Bears' offense this season.

Jay Cutler speaks of Royal with "excitement," while OC Adam Gase "expresses unabashed optimism when he thinks of all the ways Royal's presence should loosen defenses," and GM Ryan Pace believes Royal could prove the Bears' "offseason acquisition that pays the biggest dividends in 2015." With Kevin White (shin) out indefinitely, Royal has a chance to open the season as an every-down receiver who aligns at Z in two-wide sets and moves into the slot in sub-packages. Royal should improve on last year's 62 catches in San Diego.
Aug 9 - 9:07 AM

Bears OC Adam Gase believes Eddie Royal could make a Wes Welker-type impact out of the slot.

Gase coached Welker the past two years in Denver. "Eddie's got a special explosiveness that a lot of inside guys don't have," Gase said. "Eddie is a threat at all three levels." Gase also believes Royal learned to play with "confidence" his final two years in San Diego. Nearly all signs point toward Royal being an every-week WR3 this season.
Aug 8 - 11:23 AM

After observing the beginning of Bears camp, NFL reporter Dan Pompei said he'll be "very surprised" if Eddie Royal "doesn't have a big year."

Quietly, Royal was a top-35 fantasy receiver in San Diego each of the past two years despite playing a limited, slot-only role. With Kevin White (shin, conditioning) out indefinitely, Royal is in prime position to open the season as the Bears' starting Z receiver, moving inside in sub-packages. Royal could be a cheap source of 70-plus catches near the end of fantasy drafts.
Aug 3 - 5:37 PM

ESPN Chicago projects Eddie Royal and Kevin White as starters entering training camp.

We'll be keeping tabs on which receiver aligns opposite Alshon Jeffery in two-wide sets. Although there have been exceptions, new Bears coach John Fox has something of an aversion to leaning too heavily on rookies, and Chicago invested a $15 million contract with $10 million guaranteed into Royal this offseason. Marquess Wilson is also in the mix for early-season snaps.
Jul 23 - 12:26 PM's Albert Breer reports the Bears have "big plans" for new slot receiver Eddie Royal.

Now 29, Royal has always lacked for love in the fantasy community, but has generated hype all offseason. Coming off a 62/778/7 campaign for the Chargers, the only time Royal was better was his 2008 rookie season, where he caught passes from Jay Cutler in Denver. Royal has 15 scores over the past two years. With the Bears doing everything in their power to rein Cutler in, dump offs to Royal should come early and often. He could be a sneaky-valuable WR4.
Jun 22 - 3:31 PM

ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson identified WR Eddie Royal as a player who stood out during the Bears' offseason program.

Signed to a three-year deal with $10 million guaranteed this offseason, Royal is expected to have a big role in a Bears offense which has lacked a true slot receiver the last several seasons. A repeat of the 90 targets Royal saw in San Diego last year is not out of the question.
Jun 20 - 9:26 AM

According to ESPN's Mike Sando, Eddie Royal's "early grasp of the Bears' new offense has him in great position to play a prominent role right away."

Rookie Kevin White ran mostly with the second-stringers at OTAs, not a surprise on a John Fox team. It's given eight-year veteran Royal a chance to shine. "The staff seemed excited about him when I visited Bears camp earlier in the offseason," Sando wrote. Royal projects for similar usage he saw in San Diego the last two seasons, when he averaged 3.5 catches on 5.0 targets per game.
Jun 15 - 8:21 AM

Bears signed WR Eddie Royal, formerly of the Chargers, to a three-year, $15 million contract with $10 million guaranteed.

Turning 29 in May, Royal is coming off arguably his finest NFL season, catching 62 balls for 778 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 12.5 yards per reception. He has ties to both Jay Cutler and new Bears OC Adam Gase from Denver. Royal will man the slot in Chicago, between Alshon Jeffery and Marquess Wilson. As he is strictly an inside receiver, the addition of Royal is probably a best-case scenario for Wilson's chances of maintaining a big role in the Bears' offense. Wilson plays on the perimeter.
Mar 11 - 10:16 PM

Chargers GM Tom Telesco said the "door is still open" for free agent Eddie Royal to return.

The Bears met with Royal on Wednesday and are the frontrunners to sign him. He would likely be accepting a team-friendly deal to return in San Diego. Royal is Rotoworld's No. 7 remaining free-agent wideout.
Mar 11 - 4:13 PM

The Bears are hosting free agent Eddie Royal on Tuesday night.

ESPN Chicago calls the Bears the "clear frontrunner" to sign Royal, who is tight with Jay Cutler from their time together in Denver. Royal would play slot receiver between Alshon Jeffery and Marquess Wilson. Royal also has a history with new Bears OC Adam Gase, a former Denver wide receivers coach.
Mar 10 - 9:55 PM

NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Bears will sign free agent WR Eddie Royal.

Royal reportedly "loves" Jay Cutler, for what it's worth. In Chicago, he'd man the slot between current outside starters Alshon Jeffery and Marquess Wilson.
Mar 10 - 4:22 PM

Eddie Royal had four catches for 95 yards in Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Chiefs.

He also had a touchdown overturned by replay. An impending free agent, Royal's future with the Chargers is up in the air. He's averaged 55 catches, 705 yards, and eight touchdowns the last two seasons and should be able to land a multi-year deal in free agency.
