Formers Raiders and 49ers OT Kwame Harris is "apparently" retiring after being cut by the UFL's Florida Tuskers.

A 2003 first-round pick by the 49ers, Harris quickly developed a reputation for missed blocks and false starts. He managed to land a three-year, $16.3 million contract in 2008 to protect JaMarcus Russell's blindside. He made it through just 11 games before losing his starting job.

Raiders released OT Kwame Harris.

The deal Harris signed last March contained a second-year $6M roster bonus he never would've seen, so it was basically just a one-year pact. He started 11 games before being benched for Mario Henderson down the stretch. Harris is highly prone to false starts and breakdowns in pass protection.

Raiders LT Kwame Harris leads all NFL players with nine false starts.

Ten teams have nine false starts or fewer. Football Outsiders did a study a few years back that directly correlated false starts with wins and it wasn't pretty for the most penalized teams. Perhaps if Oakland had drafted Ryan Clady over Darren McFadden in April they'd be in playoff contention.

After being demoted Sunday for adding to his league-leading false start total, Kwame Harris has regained his starting left tackle job.

His replacement, Mario Henderson, played even worse. The Raiders have not scored an offensive touchdown in 13 quarters.

Raiders LT Kwame Harris is expected to begin splitting time with backup Mario Henderson starting this week.

The move is part of new coach Tom Cable's desperate mid-season roster shakeup. Henderson may help in the run game, but he's a liability in pass protection.

Raiders LT Kwame Harris (knee) is expected to resume playing this week.

Harris missed Oakland's Week 2 and 3 games. Mario Henderson wasn't an obvious liability in the run game, but the team didn't trust him in protection.

Raiders LT Kwame Harris (knee) is doubtful for Sunday.

Mario Henderson is expected to fill in against the Bills.

Raiders offensive line coach Tom Cable is reportedly convinced that Kwame Harris can be "the ideal left tackle."

We don't doubt Cable's ability to assess talent or Harris' ability to zone block, but Harris keeping ends and rush linebackers off JaMarcus Russell is an entirely different story. Harris was often exposed by power rushers as a 49er.

Raiders OT Kwame Harris' supposed three-year, $16.3 million contract will need to be addressed in the second year.

It's essentially for one year and $3 million, so if Harris plays like he did as a 49er, he'll be cut in 2009. Also included is $2.3 million in incentives. Harris will likely battle Mario Henderson to start at left tackle in training camp.

Raiders agreed to terms with T Kwame Harris on a three-year, $16 million contract.

The Raiders had a close-up look at Harris' struggles with the crosstown Niners, but that didn't discourage them. While this makes them slightly less likely to draft a tackle with the fourth overall pick, Harris will probably best be used as a reserve "swing" tackle.

In addition to the Jaguars, Bucs, and Raiders, the Broncos are reportedly interested in free agent OT Kwame Harris.

Harris was nothing short of a bust in San Francisco, but is athletic enough to play in a zone-blocking scheme. He was visiting Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Jaguars will host free agent OT Kwame Harris on Sunday.

The Raiders let him leave without a contract. Harris has also been in talks with the Bucs. He'd be a definite backup in Jacksonville or Tampa Bay.

The Bucs have shown interest in free agent OT Kwame Harris.

The Bucs have shown interest in almost everyone. They'd only offer Harris a "swing tackle" job. He'd compete to start in Oakland, where he was Friday.

Free agent OT Kwame Harris is visiting the Raiders on Friday.

There were reports Harris already had a deal in place with Oakland in the wee hours Friday morning, but those proved premature. He'd likely compete to start at left tackle for the Raiders, which should scare JaMarcus Russell.
