Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said TE Jacob Tamme will likely hit the open market.
Tamme is a fine option at tight end, but the Falcons do not need him after investing a third-round pick in Austin Hooper last year. Tamme has been linked with the 49ers, who are now coached by former Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan. Mar 2 - 12:58 PM

According to ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure, the 49ers are a "strong possibility" to sign impending free agent Jacob Tamme.

The 31-year-old said he loves being a Falcon but could opt to join his former OC Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. The 49ers just signed Vance McDonald to a five-year extension, though it wouldn't hurt to bring in a veteran to implement Shanahan's offense. Either way, Austin Hooper is slated for a bigger role.

Jacob Tamme underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on Thursday.

His second opinion obviously didn't bring great news, and he is now facing a six-month recovery. Tamme has missed the last two games since going down early against the Packers. Rookie Austin Hooper and blocker Levine Toilolo will handle tight-end duties in Atlanta.

Jacob Tamme will get a second opinion on his shoulder.

Tamme has missed the past two games. He doesn't sound assured of returning following the Falcons' Week 11 bye. Surgery is reportedly a possibility.

Jacob Tamme (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Eagles.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn expects Jacob Tamme (shoulder) to miss Week 10 against the Eagles.

So do we. Tamme injured his shoulder early in Atlanta's Week 8 win over Green Bay and has yet to resume practicing. Rookie Austin Hooper will draw another start and could be an interesting streamer this week.

Jacob Tamme (shoulder) remained sidelined on Wednesday.

With Tamme out in Week 9 against the Bucs, rookie TE Austin Hooper played 55-of-73 snaps and reeled in 3-of-4 targets for 46 yards and one touchdown. Hooper would again be on the back-end TE1 radar against Philly.

Jacob Tamme (shoulder) did not practice Monday.

Coach Dan Quinn said he did not think Tamme's injury was serious right after it happened, but he sat out last Thursday and is not getting off to a great start this week. Austin Hooper will get the starting nod again if Tamme sits against the Eagles.

Falcons declared TE Jacob Tamme, S Sharrod Neasman, RB Tevin Coleman, CB C.J. Goodwin, OG Wes Schweitzer, DT Rashede Hageman and DE Dwight Freeney inactive for Week 9 against the Bucs.

It's a quiet list for the Falcons. Promising rookie Austin Hooper is starting in Tamme's absence, and is on the TE2 radar. Tamme is week to week with a shoulder injury.

Jacob Tamme (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Bucs.

As expected. Tamme went down early in Sunday's comeback win against the Packers. Rookie Austin Hooper filled in, playing 73 percent of the snaps and catching all five of his targets. He's worth streaming consideration.

Coach Dan Quinn said he doesn't believe Jacob Tamme's shoulder injury is serious.

The Falcons have a quick turnaround, as they play the Bucs this coming Thursday night. Quinn admitted Tamme could miss that game, but beyond that, it sounds like Tamme should be okay. Austin Hooper filled in admirably after Tamme went down early Sunday, posting a 5-41 line on five targets.

Jacob Tamme caught 2-of-3 targets for 16 yards in the Falcons' Week 6 loss to the Seahawks.

Tamme drew fewer targets than Levine Toilolo, and has been held to five catches for 20 yards over his past three games. His TE2 value is all but evaporated.

Jacob Tamme gained one yard on his only target Week 5 against the Broncos.

He was stuffed at the goal line on his only catch, and he did not see the ball again all game. After opening with 16 targets the first two games, Tamme has just 7 the last three weeks. Even against a Seahawks team which is susceptible to tight ends, Tamme will not be a viable streaming option Week 6.
