Falcons signed LB Robert James to a reserve/future contract.

Financial terms of the two-year deal were not disclosed. James served a four-game suspension at the beginning of the season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy and was waived and subsequently added to the practice squad after being reinstated. A 2008 fifth-round pick, he's yet to register an NFL tackle.

James was just activated from the reserve/suspended list Monday after missing the first four games. A practice squad player for the bulk of last season, he probably would have been cut sooner if not for the suspension.

NFL suspended Falcons LB Robert James four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The 2008 fifth-rounder has spent the majority of the last two years on injured reserve and the practice squad. He appeared in one game last season (Week 17), but failed to record a tackle. James was already a longshot to make the roster, and the suspension may have sealed his fate with the Falcons.

Falcons waived/injured fifth-round rookie LB Robert James.

Lingering symptoms from a concussion will force James to be shut down for the season. The Falcons will retain James' rights, but this move allows them to fill his roster spot with another player.

Falcons agreed to terms fifth-round LB Robert James to a four-year contract, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan. Caplan reports the deal includes a signing bonus near $199,000.

James played inside linebacker at Arizona State, but will be looked at as a backup WILL in Atlanta. He's small at 5'11/220 and probably won't be more than a special teamer under Mike Smith, barring a move to strong safety.
