Panthers DT Jason Shirley has a sack in each of three games since being promoted from the practice squad in early December.

Shirley, rookie Frank Kearse, and second-year pro Andre Neblett have been a boon to the run defense as well. Despite losing rookie starters Terrell McClain and Sione Fua, the Panthers have improved to 21st in run defense, allowing just 95.6 yards per during a 4-1 stretch.

Shirley has mauler size at 6-foot-5, 338, working at offensive guard for the past two seasons on the Bengals' practice squad. The experiment was finally nixed in 2011 training camp, with Shirley moving back to defense. In Seattle, he'll be a long shot for playing time behind Alan Branch and Brandon Mebane.

The Bengals have informed 2009 fifth-round pick Jason Shirley that he's moving back to defensive tackle.

The Bengals had been trying to convert Shirley to guard since August of 2009, but it didn't pan out. He missed all of last season with a torn Achilles' tendon. Shirley will struggle to make Cincinnati's final roster this year.

Bengals OG Jason Shirley may be lost for the year after suffering what's believed to be a torn Achilles' tendon during spring workouts.

Shirley, whose transition from defensive tackle to offensive guard was profiled closely on last year's edition of HBO's Hard Knocks, was injured during a charity basketball game. He was going to be on the roster bubble anyway.

A California judge has sentenced Bengals DT Jason Shirley to 30 days in a work program after a jury found him guilty of drunken driving and hit and run.

It's not yet clear what action the league might take in terms of a suspension. Shirley isn't the first Bengal to run afoul of the law and he won't be the last.

A judge in Fresno County has issued a warrant for Bengals DT Jason Shirley, who faces trial on suspicion of drunken driving.

He has until next Tuesday to appear or charges will be filed. The Bengals knew full well what they were getting themselves into when they drafted Shirley last April. His past is extremely checkered. Shirley was eligible for only three games as a Fresno State senior due to several off-field infractions.
