Vikings NT Letroy Guion has suffered a setback in his recovery from a sprained right PCL.
He won't suit up for Friday's tilt with the Chargers. It will be Guion's second straight exhibition absence after he hurt his knee in the opener, and has his Week 1 status in jeopardy. Veteran Fred Evans is starting in his absence. Tue, Aug 21, 2012 09:13:00 PM

Vikings NT Letroy Guion will miss a "week or two" after spraining his right PCL in Friday's preseason opener.

Minnesota's starting nose tackle, Guion is in danger of missing the Vikings' next two preseason games. Coach Leslie Frazier fully expects him to be ready for Week 1. Guion is backed up by veteran Fred Evans and seventh-round rookie Trevor Guyton.

The Vikings plan to play recently re-signed DL Letroy Guion at nose tackle.

Still just 24, Guion was used mostly as a three-technique tackle in 2011. He appeared in all 16 games, but made just three starts. He graded out positively against the run by Pro Football Focus, however, and thinks he'll fare better at nose tackle. "I can see the ball better. Read the offensive line better," Guion said. The news could spell the end of Remi Ayodele's time in Minnesota.

Vikings re-signed DT Letroy Guion to a three-year contract.

Guion drew three starts last season, two while filling in during Kevin Williams' two-game suspension. A promising but inconsistent rotational tackle, Guion has flashed in limited snaps since entering the league in 2008 as a fifth-round pick.

Should Kevin Williams' four-game StarCaps suspension be upheld, Letroy Guion is expected to enter the 2011 season as the Vikings' starting "three technique" defensive tackle.

Guion, 24, racked up two sacks and nine QB pressures in 2010 despite playing about 33 percent of Minnesota's defensive snaps. ESPN's Tom Pelissero previously suggested Guion has earned the right to at least compete for a starting job. Three technique tackle won't be near as problematic for the Vikings as nose tackle and left defensive end have the potential to be.

Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities believes backup DT Letroy Guion should receive an opportunity to at least compete for a starting job in 2011.

"No one flashed more often in fewer chances," writes Pelissero. A 2008 fifth-rounder, Guion recorded two sacks, 15 QB pressures, three tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble in 26.1 percent of the Vikes' defensive snaps. He'll need to spend the offseason adding strength.
