Raiders waived FB Owen Schmitt.
Schmitt was active for all 13 games this season, but is no longer needed with Marcel Reece shifting back to fullback. Schmitt has appeared in at least 15 games every year since 2008, and could find a new home for the season's final three contests. Mon, Dec 10, 2012 01:33:00 PM

Raiders agreed to terms with FB Owen Schmitt on a one-year contract.

The Raiders need depth for offseason practices, as starter Marcel Reece has yet to sign his ERFA tender and is not participating. Schmitt has experience with OC Gregg Knapp from their time together in Seattle two years ago.

Free agent FB Owen Schmitt will work out for the Raiders this week.

The former Seahawks and Eagles lead blocker was rated as one of the league's least effective fullbacks in 2011 by Pro Football Focus. He'd have a tough time finding a roster spot behind Marcel Reece.

Eagles FB Owen Schmitt waived an arraignment for driving with a suspended license in Seattle earlier in the month.

Schmitt was scheduled to appear in court and enter a plea Wednesday. Instead, he'll be granted a pretrial date for Nov. 16. Schmitt was originally arrested in June of 2009 on a drunk driving charge.

Eagles signed FB Owen Schmitt, formerly of the Seahawks.

They picked him over Jason Davis. Schmitt, 25, struggled as a blocker in Seattle last year, but has special teams ability and some versatility as a receiver. He won't be nearly as big a part of the offense as Leonard Weaver.

The Eagles will work out free agent FB Owen Schmitt Monday, a source tells Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

Schmitt is going head-to-head with fellow free agent Jason Davis for the job. Neither would be used as a rusher like Leonard Weaver (knee) was for the Eagles.

The Bengals will reportedly work out free agent FB Owen Schmitt next week.

Tight end Daniel Coats is currently standing in as Cincy's lead blocker after Fui Vakapuna was dumped last week.

Seahawks waived FB Owen Schmitt.

Seattle won't go with a true lead blocker this year, opting instead for Quinton Ganther and special teamer Michael Robinson. Ganther, starter Justin Forsett, and KR/PR Leon Washington are the ball carriers left standing.

Owen Schmitt is looking forward to claiming the starting fullback job for the Seahawks.

He has started just two games in his first two seasons in the NFL, but with Ryan Powdrell figuring to be his chief competition, Schmitt stands a good chance to claim that starting spot.

Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt will not be suspended for his suspicion of DUI/reckless driving charge in June.

Schmitt has been fined two game checks instead. He was a first-time offender of the league's substance abuse policy.

Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving in connection with his June arrest for suspicion of DUI.

Schmitt got a 365-day sentence, but 364 were suspended and he already spent one day in jail. Schmitt also must pay $2,130 in fines. We're guessing he won't be suspended as a first-time offender of the NFL conduct policy.

Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt pleaded not guilty to suspicion of DUI in a Black Diamond (WA) courtroom Tuesday.

This was only an arraignment; a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for later this month. Schmitt could be in danger of NFL discipline if he isn't acquitted.

Seahawks FB Owen Schmitt was arrested for suspicion of DUI Saturday in Black Diamond, Washington.

His blood-alcohol content measured between 0.151 and 0.161. Schmitt looked like Seattle's fullback of the future when he was picked in the fifth round last year, but the arrest won't help him beat out Justin Griffith, a veteran of coordinator Greg Knapp's zone-blocking scheme. It's Schmitt's first law run-in as a pro, so the West Virginia product should avoid suspension.

Seahawks signed FB Owen Schmitt to a four-year contract, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan. The deal includes a $158,000 signing bonus.

Stationed behind Leonard Weaver, Schmitt isn't in the mix to start as a rookie, but he has potential as a short-yardage specialist and lead blocker in time. He could make T.J. Duckett expendable by 2009 by practicing well this year.
Mon, Jul 14, 2008 08:01:00 PM

Seahawks selected West Virginia FB Owen Schmitt with the No. 163 pick in the draft.

Schmitt (6'2/247) can be a punishing runner, but doesn't consistently lead block with good leverage. He is a capable receiver out of the backfield and has very good straight-ahead speed for his size. Schmitt probably won't be a short-yardage threat this year because of T.J. Duckett, but Duckett's contract is year-to-year and that's a role Schmitt could fill at some point.
