Colts signed OLB Erik Walden to a four-year, $16 million contract.
27-year-old Walden is an outside pass rusher who managed nine sacks in Green Bay over the past three seasons. It's nothing short of stunning that the Colts are paying him $4 million a year, but Walden was told the club gave him "every expectation" he'll be the 2013 starter opposite Robert Mathis. The Packers didn't think much of Walden and tend to be awfully savvy player evaluators. This looks like one of the bigger overpays of the free-agency period so far. Mar 12 - 5:38 PM

Impending free agent OLB Erik Walden will have his disorderly conduct charge from a year ago dismissed on Friday.

Walden was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a domestic dispute at his home last offseason and was later suspended by the NFL for one game as a result. Walden will hit the open market this offseason coming off a 46-tackle and three-sack campaign.

The Packers were reportedly "disenchanted" with Walden after his November arrest for domestic violence. Walden's agent believes the looming suspension affected his client's market in free agency. Expected to play a reserve role this season, Walden is eligible to return to action in Week 2.

Walden, 27 in August, racked up 60 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 16 appearances with 15 starts last season. The Packers want to do better at the position opposite Clay Matthews, however, and Walden would ideally return only as a backup and special teamer. He's not starting material.

The agent for free agent OLB Erik Walden says he wants to re-sign with the Packers, but claims he's been in contact with "five or six teams."

Walden hasn't made any visits since the start of free agency, and is unlikely to return to a Packers team that reportedly grew "disenchanted" with him in 2011. His playing time dwindled following his November arrest for domestic assault. Walden graded out as one of the worst outside linebackers in the league by Pro Football Focus last season. The Cowboys are one of the teams interested.

The Packers have reportedly become "disenchanted" with free agent OLB Erik Walden.

Don't expect him back in Green Bay after a disappointing season. Brad Jones and Jamari Lattimore, a free agent from Middle Tennessee State, are expected to see expanded roles, including time at inside linebacker. Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that the Packers plan to add at least one outside linebacker this offseason.

Free agent OLB Erik Walden pleaded no contest Friday to a domestic disturbance charge stemming from a December incident.

Walden was initially arrested on a felony charge, but it was later downgraded to a misdemeanor. The arrest is going to sink his free agent value, not that he had much. A 'tweener type best suited to play on special teams, Walden managed just three sacks in 15 starts despite seeing single blocks through 2011. Outside linebacker is Green Bay's biggest need area this offseason.

Erik Walden continues to start, but he hasn't finished the past two games, giving way to Frank Zombo and Vic So'oto. The Packers figure to use a rotation in the playoffs, searching for the combo that will provide the best pass-rushing spark.

OLB Erik Walden was benched late in the Packers' Week 15 loss to the Chiefs.

Walden kept biting to the inside, leaving the edge open for screens and reverses. He was pulled in the fourth quarter. "My alignment and my technique was poor and it came back to bite me at the end," Walden said. He's started all 14 games for the Packers this season, recording 53 tackles and three sacks.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Packers OLB Erik Walden was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of domestic assault.

Walden allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend, and will be held in jail through the weekend. This isn't the kind of distraction the 11-0 Packers needed, so it's possible they'll consider releasing Walden. Walden has not been formally charged, but is being accused of a felony. It's believed the incident occurred at around 2:30AM in a Green Bay suburb. The woman was hospitalized, but had no visible injuries, according to police.

Frank Zombo has been sidelined by a broken scapula, and Brad Jones was limited to special teams duty in the season opener. Walden produced six tackles, a sack, and a pass defensed against the Saints. Consistency has been Walden's biggest stumbling block, but the coaches like his coverage skills against backs and tight ends.

Frank Zombo will start the Super Bowl in place of OLB Erik Walden, who is inactive with an ankle injury Sunday.

Zombo entered the season as the starter, so it's not a major downgrade. Walden had been hitting his stride before the injury, though, so there's some loss of playmaking ability. The rest of the Packers inactives: QB Graham Harrell, FB Quinn Johnson, RB Dimitri Nance, OG Evan Dietrich-Smith, OT Nick McDonald, CB Brandon Underwood, and DB Josh Gordy. Johnson had been the lead blocker in I-formations, so his benching could be a sign that the Packers won't even attempt to establish a rushing attack.
