Barry Richardson has supplanted Jason Smith as the Rams' starting right tackle.
It's concerning news for Smith, as Richardson was merely a depth signing and is playing for the veteran minimum. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas believes the job is "definitely" up for grabs, and may take the entire preseason to sort out. Richardson started the Rams' preseason opener, and is practicing with the first-team offense. St. Louis will struggle to protect Sam Bradford this year. Wed, Aug 15, 2012 11:46:00 AM

Free agent OT Barry Richardson visited the Rams on Thursday.

The Rams were apparently sending out a casting call for a swing tackle, as Robert Turner and Quinn Ojinnaka were also brought in. Ojinnaka was signed, likely eliminating Richardson from contention.

The Kansas City Star suspects the Chiefs will target an offensive tackle early in this year's draft.

Free agent Barry Richardson was one of the least effective right tackles in football last season. While Branden Albert finally emerged as a fine all-around left tackle in 2011, he's now entering a contract season. The Chiefs have no depth to speak of behind Albert.

Chiefs RT Barry Richardson was flagged for three holding penalties in Kansas City's preseason game against the Rams on Friday.

He was manhandled by Chris Long. It's bad news for a player who struggled mightily in pass protection last season. Ideally, Richardson would eventually be sent to the bench with Jared Gaither taking over at left tackle and Branden Albert shifting to right tackle.

Chiefs RT Barry Richardson is expected to face competition for his starting job this summer.

Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com believes it would be an "absolute shocker" if a veteran tackle (or two) isn't signed once the lockout is lifted. Richardson acquitted himself well as a run-blocker but struggled to keep pressure off Matt Cassel in his first season as a starter.

Coach Todd Haley said he had no problem with RT Barry Richardson's sideline tirade during Sunday's win over the Broncos.

Richardson was taken out in the third quarter after a false start penalty. He then erupted on the sideline, screaming and pushing coaches. But on the next series, Richardson was back in the game. "What you're seeing out of our guys, and what's an exciting thing to me as a head coach is we have a lot of guys who really care," Haley said.

Chiefs RT Barry Richardson appeared to be benched in favor of Ryan O'Callaghan in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Broncos.

Richardson gave up a sack/fumble to Mario Haggan that ended up going for a touchdown. At that point, the score was 35-0 and O'Callaghan came on. It's a move that could stick permanently, as O'Callaghan was the starter coming into the year.

With Ryan O'Callaghan (groin) unlikely to play, Barry Richardson is expected to be the Chiefs' starting right tackle in Week 1.

The Chiefs would be smart to keep TE Leonard Pope on his side all game, as Richardson was a quarterback hit waiting to happen in five appearances last year. Kansas City isn't going to win Monday night if it has to pass often, so Richardson's pass-pro shortcomings ideally won't be oft-put to the test.

Chiefs signed OT Barry Richardson off their practice squad.

Richadson is up with Brandon Albert (ankle) out for Sunday's game against the Redskins. Richardson will likely back up Wade Smith.

Chiefs waived OT Barry Richardson.

Part of Kansas City's ballyhooed, but ultimately failed 2008 draft class, Richardson saw first-team reps in camp but became expendable when Ryan O'Callaghan was claimed on waivers. Richardson figures to get another shot soon.

Barry Richardson started at right tackle for the Chiefs on Friday and didn't pass the test to keep that job for long.

The Chiefs ran almost exclusively right to test him and it didn't pay off. The Chiefs' offensive line hasn't played too well this preseason, as all five members are getting pushed around. Larry Johnson and Matt Cassel are going to have a tough time making it through the entire season if it continues.

Chiefs signed seventh-round OT Barry Richardson to a three-year contract.

Richardson is 6'7/320 and started all four years at Clemson, but he is not especially powerful and lacks ideal skills to an NFL blind side tackle. He could still develop into a valuable reserve swingman for the Chiefs.
