Redskins waived S Kareem Moore.

The 'Skins were faced with Wednesday's deadline to active Moore from reserve/PUP list, where he spent the first half of the season while rehabbing from knee surgery. With Reed Doughty and DeJon Gomes providing depth at the position, Moore wasn't needed at safety.

Redskins S Kareem Moore (knee surgery) is in danger of beginning the season on the PUP list.

"I really don’t know with Kareem, because he’s getting better," HC Mike Shanahan said. "But I want to get him to that certain level where he can play in a game." With LaRon Landry, O.J. Atogwe, Reed Doughty, Chris Horton and DeJon Gomes all on the roster, the Redskins have plenty of depth at safety.

CSN Washington's Rich Tandler believes safeties Kareem Moore and Chris Horton are both "very much in danger of not being with the (Redskins) in 2011."

Both are clear backups after the Skins signed O.J. Atogwe to pair with LaRon Landry. However, Tandler thinks the presence of Macho Harris and selection of DeJon Gomes in the draft may have pushed Moore and Horton entirely out.

Redskins S Kareem Moore's latest knee surgery, which "shaved" his left PCL, will sideline him until August.

Moore had the surgery in late December, and it's his second knee procedure since last summer. Considering the lengthy timetable, it's fair to wonder if the latest operation was more than just a routine scope. The Skins will move forward with Moore backing up new FS O.J. Atogwe across from SS LaRon Landry.

Kareem Moore will move into a clear backup role following the Redskins' addition of O.J. Atogwe.

Moore has intriguing cover skills, but is unreliable physically and especially as a tackler. Having undergone at least three knee surgeries in three years, it's smart for the Skins to keep Moore in a limited, third safety role.

The Redskins are interested in free agent FS O.J. Atogwe as an upgrade on incumbent Kareem Moore.

Moore had both of his knees surgically repaired during the 2010 season, and despite his potential the Redskins can't count on Moore to stay healthy, let alone effective. Moore could return as Washington's third safety in 2011.

Redskins FS Kareem Moore (injured reserve) will undergo another surgery on his right knee Monday.

It will be Moore's second knee surgery since August -- he's had operations on both knees. Moore, a first-year starter, finished the season with 64 tackles and one pick. He's under contract cheaply through 2011 at $555,000.

Redskins placed FS Kareem Moore on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

Moore has had problems with both knees this season, first tearing ligaments in his left knee during the preseason that required arthroscopic surgery, then injuring his other knee before aggravating the original injury. It's not clear if he'll need another surgery.

Kareem Moore (knee) returned to the starting lineup at free safety Sunday.

Moore won the starting gig in camp but sprained his knee during the preseason. He immediately got his job back from Reed Doughty and contributed six tackles and an interception.

Redskins FS Kareem Moore (knee) expects to make his season debut against the Rams Sunday.

Moore practiced fully on Wednesday, about a month after undergoing arthroscopic surgery. After the Redskins' secondary was lit up by Matt Schaub in Week 2, they certainly could use the rangy Moore. Backup Reed Doughty was a liability in coverage.

As expected, Redskins FS Kareem Moore (knee) will miss Washington's Week 2 game against the Texans.

While the 'Skins could use all the help they can get against the high-powered Texans, Reed Doughty played well in place of Moore. Initially injured on August 21 in the preseason game against Baltimore, Moore is expected back in time for the Week 3 game versus St. Louis.

Redskins FS Kareem Moore insisted Monday that his recovery from a knee scope is "ahead of schedule."

Moore is targeting Week 2 or 3 to return, though the latter seems more likely. A previous report had Moore out for at least "the first couple weeks" of the regular season. Reed Doughty held up well in relief Sunday night.

Redskins FS Kareem Moore (knee surgery) is expected to miss the "first couple weeks" of the regular season.

Moore had his knee scoped Monday, but the Skins don't plan to rush him back for the opener. Washington's secondary should be a better matchup for opposing passing games early in the year. Moore has the best range in the safety corps, and replacement Reed Doughty is a downgrade in coverage.

Redskins FS Kareem Moore reportedly underwent a "simple scope" on his right knee Monday morning.

The procedure was described as "definitely not season ending," and initial estimates had Moore missing 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain. It's not known if the timetable remains the same following surgery. Reed Doughty is expected to get the first shot to replace Moore in the starting lineup.
