Bears SS Ryan Mundy suffered a "serious stinger" in Monday night's Week 3 win over the Jets.
Mundy exited early in the first half. Prior to leaving, he returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. The Bears lost both Mundy and FS Chris Conte (shoulder) to injuries against the Jets. Career special teamer Danny McCray and rookie Brock Vereen were forced to step in. The safety spots remain question marks in the Windy City. Mundy has never missed a game in six seasons. The "plan" is for Ryan Mundy to be the Bears' starting strong safety.

Chicago's current safety duo of Mundy and FS Chris Conte is cause for concern. (Major Wright signed with the Bucs.) Mundy, 29, started ten games for the Giants last season but is best in a third safety role. The Bears at No. 14 overall are a popular mock-draft destination for safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor.

Bears signed S Ryan Mundy to a two-year, $3 million deal.

Mundy started ten games for the Giants in 2013, recording 77 tackles, one sack, and one interception. Mundy will be given the opportunity to earn a starting job in Chicago, but he fits best in a third safety/special teams role.

The Bears have expressed interest in free agent S Ryan Mundy.

Mundy is a third safety/special teams type and wouldn't cure Chicago's deep safety woes alongside Chris Conte. Bears GM Phil Emery is also said to have reached out to the player reps for free agent S Mike Mitchell.

Giants FS Ryan Mundy is dealing with a hip pointer.

It explains why Mundy didn't play in Sunday's win over the Eagles despite being active. He'll now have the Week 9 bye to rest up. Mundy has 48 tackles and one interception through eight games this season.

Steelers re-signed restricted free agent S Ryan Mundy to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

Mundy is a quality run-support safety and special teamer, but there is a noticeable drop-off in coverage whenever he's forced to make spot starts. He'll return as the Steelers' third safety behind Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu.

Steelers signed sixth-round S Ryan Mundy to a three-year contract. The deal includes a $67,600 signing bonus.

We were secretly hoping that Mundy wouldn't sign until Monday so we could make an Office Space joke, but it's probably better that he didn't. The West Virginia product is unlikely to be more than a special teamer in the NFL.
