Colts released OG Donald Thomas.
Thomas has appeared in just two games since 2013 and sat out OTAs and much of training camp with a quad injury. He was just activated off the active/PUP list last week. Thomas looked to be an ascending player before the injuries, so he will certainly latch on with another team. Colts also waived G Harland Gunn, ILB Nicklas Haag, OLB Zack Hodges, T Tyler Hoover, WR Ryan Lankford, DT Jeris Pendleton, WR Ezell Ruffin, ILB Justin Shirk, TE Justin Sinz, RB Abou Toure and C Brandon Vitabile. Date:

Colts activated OG Donald Thomas (quad) from the active/PUP list.

Due to myriad injury issues, Thomas has barely played the past two seasons. He looked to be an ascending player before that timeframe, earning a four-year, $14 million deal with Indianapolis in free agency. Turning 30 next month, these last few weeks of training camp could be critical for Thomas' career.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson said LG Donald Thomas (quad) is day to day.

Thomas has yet to practice after sitting out OTAs. He’s appeared in only two games since 2013, putting his roster spot in serious question. The Colts want to evaluate Thomas before making a decision on him. Releasing Thomas would clear $3.5 million in cap space.

ESPN Colts reporter Mike Wells doesn't expect OG Donald Thomas to make the team.

Thomas has missed 30-of-32 regular-season games the past two seasons due to injury and has become an afterthought for the Colts. Jack Mewhort and Todd Herremans are expected to be the Colts' starting guards with Hugh Thornton and Lance Louis as backups. Indy can clear $3.5 million by cutting Thomas.

Colts LG Donald Thomas (torn quad) is not expected back until training camp.

Thomas lost the last 14 games of 2013 to a torn right quad and missed all of 2014 after re-tearing the same muscle last July. He has played just 70 snaps since signing a four-year, $14 million deal in 2013. Due $7 million over the final two years of his deal, Thomas is not a lock for the final roster.

Colts LG Donald Thomas is a candidate to be released.

Thomas spent all of 2014 on I.R. with a quad injury. He's unlikely to be back at his $3.75 million cap hit after missing 30-of-32 possible games the last two seasons. The Colts would leave only $500,000 in dead money by releasing Thomas.

Colts placed LG Donald Thomas (quad) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Thomas re-tore the same quad he injured last season. He's now played on just 70 snaps since signing a four-year, $14 million deal in March of 2013. The Colts are extremely young and unproven along the interior of their offensive line, putting even more strain on Trent Richardson to create yards when holes aren't there. The Colts' best chance at sustaining offense remains saddling up Andrew Luck.

Colts LG Donald Thomas re-tore his quad during Wednesday's practice and will need surgery.

It's the same injury that cost Thomas the final 14 games of last season. This tear will likely cost him all 16 games this year, meaning he will have played in two games since signing a four-year, $14 million deal with the Colts in March of 2013. It's another stinging blow to the Colts as Thomas was projected to start at left guard, the primary backup center and improve the unit's run blocking. They'll now have to thrust second-round rookie Jack Mewhort into a major role.

A source tells the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder Colts LG Donald Thomas re-injured his quad during practice Wednesday.

Thomas missed the final 14 games of 2013 with tears to both his quad and bicep. He is headed for an MRI. Rookie Jack Mewhort stepped in at left guard after Thomas went down, and would likely man the position if Thomas is force to miss any time.

Colts LG Donald Thomas (quad) is not participating in OTAs.

This doesn't come as a surprise. Thomas missed the final 14 games of last season and is still rehabbing the injury. He's expected to be ready for the start of training camp. Lance Louis has been running with the first-team offense at left guard in OTAs, while second-rounder Jack Mewhort works with the twos.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson revealed that, in addition to his torn quad, LG Donald Thomas tore his biceps in Week 2.

The injuries remarkably happened on the same series against the Dolphins. Thomas was playing through the torn biceps but later tore his quad. Thomas is still working his way back but should be ready for the start of training camp. He'll slide right back into his starting spot next to LT Anthony Castonzo.

Colts placed LG Donald Thomas on injured reserve with a torn quad, ending his season.

The move comes just two games into Thomas' four-year, $14 million contract. Thomas had been playing well before going down. The Colts must now go with third-round rookie Hugh Thornton at left guard. Going on 28, Thomas should slide back into his starting job next summer.

Colts LG Donald Thomas needs season-ending surgery on his torn quadriceps tendon.

It's a big blow to the Colts. Signed to a four-year, $14 million deal in March, Thomas was a solid and versatile interior performer. The Colts will be forced to turn to third-round rookie Hugh Thornton, who primarily worked at right guard during the preseason.

Profootballtalk.com reports Colts LG Donald Thomas tore his quadriceps in Week 2 against the Dolphins.

It's a potential season ender. Thomas was one of the Colts' top offseason free agent pickups, and their offensive line has noticeably struggled even with him in the lineup. They'll now turn to third-round rookie Hugh Thornton at left guard.

Colts LG Donald Thomas was carted off the field Sunday with an injured right knee and will not return.

He was replaced by rookie Hugh Thornton. Thomas was quickly declared done for the day, which bodes poorly for his chances of returning anytime soon. The Colts signed Thomas to a four-year, $14 million contract during the offseason.
