Chiefs released LB Andy Studebaker.
A veteran special teamer, Studebaker notched eight tackles last season. Studebaker has contributed on defense in the past, but saw just 56 snaps at linebacker in 2012. That made his $2.055 million salary untenable. Studebaker could eventually re-sign with Kansas City at a lower price. Apr 1 - 1:33 PM

Andy Studebaker is expected to have the "inside track" on the Chiefs' starting outside linebacker job opposite Tamba Hali this season.

Studebaker has been Mike Vrabel's understudy for the past two seasons, but overtook Vrabel on passing downs for much of last year and had 2.5 sacks. Studebaker is now the heavy favorite for early-down work. He'll be pushed by Cam Sheffield and third-round pick Justin Houston for the nickel rushing role.

The Kansas City Star suggests that Andy Studebaker will only be used to "keep the seat warm" for rookie Justin Houston at outside linebacker.

There's no question that Houston has more upside as an explosive edge rusher. The Chiefs value Studebaker's versatility, however, and he's been in the system, while Houston won't benefit from the lockout. Houston may enter the year as a situational rusher, and replace Studebaker on the first team around midseason.

The Kansas City Star confirms that Andy Studebaker is expected to slide in for Mike Vrabel at outside linebacker.

Vrabel is declining badly at age 36 and is coming off an arrest for felony theft. The Chiefs have been grooming Studebaker to handle nickel rushing duties and the time for a change could be now. Even if Vrabel does play one more year, the Chiefs need to at least get Studebaker experience via a timeshare.

The Chiefs have been grooming OLB Andy Studebaker to take over for nickel rusher Mike Vrabel.

Vrabel is an impending free agent and will be 36 in August. After working behind Vrabel for two seasons, now is likely the time to make the move. The Chiefs could also look to add talent to the position in an effort to keep attention off Tamba Hali.

The Chiefs have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract extension for OLB Andy Studebaker.

Studebaker, a product of D-III Wheaton College, had been under contract through 2010 at $470,000. He's a key special teamer and Mike Vrabel's heir apparent to the situational pass rusher role for the Chiefs.

Andy Studebaker "appears to be solidifying himself" as the Chiefs' long-term replacement for OLB Mike Vrabel.

Vrabel, 35 and in a contract year, has kicked inside with Studebaker starting outside in some nickel packages. Studebaker figures to enter the season as the Chiefs' primary nickel rusher. He does need to polish his cover skills.

Chiefs re-signed exclusive rights free agent OLB Andy Studebaker.

He'll collect $470,000. Studebaker flashed in late-season chances last year, picking off two passes, forcing a fumble, and making 26 tackles in the final eight games. While he probably won't earn the first-team job opposite Tamba Hali, Studebaker has shown enough to be viewed as a capable spot starter.

Chiefs LB Andy Studebaker will make his first career NFL start on Sunday against the Steelers.

Studebaker will start at OLB in place of the injured Mike Vrabel (knee). The Chiefs signed him off the Eagles practice squad last November after the Eagles drafted him in the sixth round out of D-III Wheaton College in 2008.

With half of their starting defense questionable for this week's game against Buffalo, the Chiefs needed a healthy body.

Eagles signed sixth-round LB Andy Studebaker to a four-year contract.

The D-III product saw his draft stock soar because of a workout posted on Youtube. There will be a lot of Wheaton alums pulling for him to make the Eagles

Eagles GM Tom Heckert admits he hadn't really heard of sixth-round pick Andy Studebacker before "his workout started popping up on YouTube."

"Next thing you know, he got super hot," Heckert said. Studebaker played at D-III Wheaton College just outside of Chicago. The school averaged 3,931 in attendance per game. Studebaker will play special teams as a rookie.
