Dolphins released OL Nate Garner.
Garner missed the second half of the 2014 campaign while dealing with migraines and it's uncertain whether he'll continue his playing career. Releasing Garner gives the Dolphins an additional $1.65 million in cap room. With Mike Wallace unlikely to accept a pay cut and Ryan Tannehill headed for a contract extension, it makes sense for Miami to create cap space. Mon, Mar 2, 2015 02:12:00 PM

Dolphins OL Nate Garner's playing career is in question due to headaches and migraines.

We assume this is the previously-unspecified reason why Garner was placed on the reserve/NFI list back in December. Garner was knocked out cold in Week 10 and never played again last season. He projects as the Dolphins' top backup at tackle and guard. Miami can save $1.6 million vs. the cap by cutting him.

Dolphins placed G/T Nate Garner on the reserve/NFI list, ending his season.

Garner's illness wasn't specified. A reserve guard and tackle, Garner played just 51 snaps this season. Going on 30, he's signed for $1.625 million in 2015. He's unlikely to be back at that price.

Nate Garner appears to have pulled ahead as the Dolphins' starting center.

He's worked with the first-team offense "most of this week." It appears the Shelley Smith experiment is over. Smith, who had "never played center at any level," struggled with errant snaps throughout the first week of training camp. Smith will likely move back to his more comfortable guard role while Garner handles center duties. Free agent Samson Satele remains a fallback option.

Per the Ted Wells report, Dolphins G/T Nate Garner was also a frequent subject of harassment in the Miami locker room.

"Since we cut [OL Josh Samuda] we have been non stop on [Garner]," Richie Incognito admitted. "Even [OL coach Jim Turner] is in on it. [Garner] looks like he’s about to cry 24/7." This is ugly stuff. In one text, Garner told Jonathan Martin "Hey bro if u need to talk to anyone I’m here for ya. I have been dealing with this sh-t for 6 years. I hope ur doin ok." Turner remains employed by the Dolphins. The front office should hand him his walking papers shortly, and Turner may never coach again. Despite this, his line played as ugly as these texts.

Dolphins T/G Nate Garner (shoulder) is expected to be a full-go next week.

Garner underwent a scope last week. He's on the practice field Thursday, but is in shorts. Garner is on track to be the Dolphins' super-sub offensive lineman come Week 1.

Dolphins G/T Nate Garner is expected to miss 2-3 weeks following a shoulder scope.

It's actually good news for the Dolphins. Garner should be back in time for Week 1, where he'll serve as a top reserve at both guard and tackle on a razor-thin offensive line.

Sources tell NFL Network that Dolphins G/T Nate Garner (shoulder) is out indefinitely.

Per reporter Jeff Darlington, Garner hurt his shoulder "bad" on Monday. It's a blow to the depth of an offensive line that already had as many question marks as any team in the league. Jeff Adams, a 2012 undrafted free agent out of Columbia with no NFL experience, is penciled in as Jonathan Martin's backup at left tackle. Garner had value as a very versatile reserve.

Dolphins re-signed G/T Nate Garner.

Although Garner made four starts at right tackle last year, he's not back to fill Jake Long's shoes by himself. He's a utility lineman capable of playing four positions and acting as quality depth. Both tackle spots remain a concern for the Dolphins as they ask right tackle Jonathan Martin to move to Ryan Tannehill's blind side.

The Dolphins are "finalizing" a deal with free agent G/T Nate Garner.

Garner would be returning as insurance for a team that just lost Jake Long. Garner acquitted himself well in four starts at right tackle last season, but he'd almost certainly be coming back as a swing tackle, not a starter.

The Miami Herald reports "both sides" are interested in keeping free agent G/T Nate Garner in Miami.

Garner could be a cheap fallback option if the Dolphins let free agent Jake Long walk and shift RT Jonathan Martin to left tackle. Garner has appeared in all 16 games each of the past three seasons, but made just 13 career starts.

"Insiders" tell the Miami Herald free agent G/T Nate Garner could command a contract worth $3 million annually.

Garner filled in as the Dolphins' starting right tackle after Jake Long tore his triceps last season, and played exceedingly well. The four-year veteran has appeared in all 48 games the past three seasons, making 13 starts while sliding all over the line. Still only 28, the 6-foot-7, 325-pound lineman could find a team willing to gamble on him as a cost-effective starter.

Dolphins signed G/T Nate Garner and S Tyrone Culver to one-year contract extensions through 2012.

Garner can play four positions on the offensive line and is the Fins' first lineman off the bench. We suspect he'll start games at right tackle this year, because the Marc Colombo experiment is a poor bet to work. Culver is a career special teamer. Last season, he racked up 10 tackles in kick and punt coverage.

Dolphins extended a restricted free agent tender to OG Nate Garner.

Dolphins coaches want the three-year veteran to take over for Richie Incognito at left guard opposite John Jerry next season. Garner missed all of last season with a foot injury.
Thu, Mar 3, 2011 08:35:00 PM

The Dolphins reportedly believe Nate Garner could be the answer at left guard, but they have concerns about his weight.

Garner is listed at 6'7/325, which is certainly not overweight for a guard. Perhaps the team wants him to bulk up in an effort to avoid the nagging injuries that have plagued him the past two years. Without question, guard is a top need for Miami this offseason.
