NFL suspended free agent LB Larry Grant four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
This may explain Grant's cold free-agent market, although he wasn't expected to have a robust one in the first place. The 28-year-old is a fine special teams player and quality backup. Grant recently visited the Chiefs and Patriots, but he won't be eligible to return until Week 5. Apr 19 - 5:06 PM

Free agent LB Larry Grant worked out for the Patriots on Thursday.

Grant, 28, appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers last season, but played just 21 defensive snaps as a backup to Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman. He'd fill a special teams and occasional nickel linebacker role if signed by the Pats.

The Chiefs recently visited with free agent LB Larry Grant.

It's his first known visit this offseason. Grant was a non-factor with the 49ers last season and surprisingly played just 21 snaps on defense. He isn't going to get anything other than a one-year deal at this point, and could struggle to find a team that's willing to take a chance on him.

CSN Bay Area doesn't expect the 49ers to re-sign free agent ILB Larry Grant.

Grant turned in an impressive three-game cameo in place of an injured Patrick Willis in 2011, but surprisingly played just 21 snaps on defense in 2012. An unrestricted free agent, Grant could have trouble finding a starting job.

49ers re-signed restricted free agent ILB Larry Grant to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.

Grant drew surprisingly little interest after being tendered at the original-round (in his case, seventh) level. Grant acquitted himself well as a starter last December when Patrick Willis missed three games with a hamstring injury, and finished 2011 with 39 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. He'll be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

49ers reportedly placed an original, seventh-round tender on restricted free agent ILB Larry Grant.

The original-round tender comes with a salary of approximately $1.26 million. The other option was a second-round tender at $1.92 million. In saving $700,000, the Niners stand a good chance to lose Grant for the price of just a seventh-round pick. He more than held his own as a fill-in for Patrick Willis in December.

Updating a previous item, 49ers ILB Larry Grant is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Grant has been in the NFL for four years, but only three of them were "accrued" because he was on the Rams' 53-man roster for fewer than six games as a rookie in 2008. Grant flashed promise in spot starts for Patrick Willis down the 2011 stretch. He may draw some interest if the Niners give him an "original pick" tender. Grant was St. Louis' seventh-round pick in 2008.

Eric D. Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune suggested free agent ILB Larry Grant as a potential offseason target for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks lack quality depth behind David Hawthorne, Leroy Hill, and K.J. Wright, and both Hill and Hawthorne are free agents. Grant, a seventh-round pick by the 49ers in 2008, spent his first three seasons as a reserve linebacker in St. Louis. He rejoined San Francisco this season on a one-year deal.

49ers agreed to terms with LB Larry Grant, formerly of the Rams.

A seventh-round pick of the 49ers in 2008, Grant ended up in St. Louis where he struggled in both pass and run defense the past three seasons. A natural 3-4 inside linebacker, he should be used almost exclusively on special teams if he cracks the 49ers' 53-man roster.

The Rams have rescinded their exclusive rights free agent tender to LB Larry Grant.

The Rams wanted to let Grant "hook on with another team" early in the process, per coach Steve Spagnuolo. An eight-game starter on the weak side last year, Grant struggled in both run and pass defense. He's best suited for a special teams role, and failing with a grand opportunity in a poor St. Louis linebacker corps doesn't bode well for his future on defense.

The Rams continued their revolving door at WLB in Week 12, as Larry Grant was back in the starting lineup.

Grant started the first seven games, but he yielded to Bryan Kehl for the eighth game and Chris Chamberlain for the ninth and 10th games. The Rams clearly wanted to find a spark with someone else but evidently determined that Grant is the best of a bad situation. The team desperately needs to find some OLB help over the offseason, as Grant and Na'il Diggs are really holding the defense back.

The Rams will start Bryan Kehl ahead of Larry Grant at weak-side linebacker in Sunday's game against the Panthers.

No word on an injury to Grant, so we suspect this is performance-based. It's a situation to avoid in IDP formats as the two could end up rotating.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch confirms that Larry Grant has supplanted Bobby Carpenter as the Rams' starting weak-side linebacker.

Carpenter has lacked physicality in St. Louis, just as he did in Dallas, and will be no better than the fourth linebacker. James Laurinaitis remains the Rams' IDP linebacker to target, but Grant is worth a look in deep leagues.

Larry Grant opened training camp as the Rams' starting weak-side linebacker.

Bobby Carpenter was the starting WILL throughout OTAs and minicamps, but the Rams apparently weren't overly impressed with what they saw from the former first-round draft bust. Grant probably wouldn't make most teams in the NFL. Expect another season of atrocious defensive play in the Gateway City.
Sat, Jul 31, 2010 09:40:00 PM

Rams LB Larry Grant underwent an offseason surgery to correct what was believed to be a wrist injury.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo indicated that the procedure was a scope, but he couldn't remember exactly which body part Grant had fixed. The reserve linebacker has been cleared for camp.
