Seahawks signed WR Brett Swain, formerly of the 49ers.
Swain was originally picked up by the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State, so Seahawks GM John Schneider has some familiarity with him. Swain will compete for a fifth receiver role in Seattle's training camp. Mon, Apr 8, 2013 07:39:00 PM

49ers waived WR Brett Swain, WR Chris Owusu and TE Konrad Reuland.

Swain is an adept special teamer, but caught just six passes for 63 yards in the preseason, and has only eight grabs in 27 career games. He'll crack someone's roster before the season is through, however. Undrafted out of Stanford due in large part to his concussion history, Owusu is a strong candidate for the practice squad. It's the second straight year Reuland has been waived at final cuts.

49ers re-signed WR Brett Swain.

Swain, who turns 27 in June, caught two passes for 15 yards in five game appearances last season. The Niners initially failed to tender Swain in restricted free agency, but he'll return on a deal for the veteran's minimum.

The 49ers will not tender WR Brett Swain, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The club is interested in signing Swain to a contract for the veteran's minimum. The former undrafted free agent finished last season with two catches for 15 yards in five appearances. He's more of a special teamer than wideout.

Starting in the absence of Kyle Williams and Ted Ginn, Brett Swain made one catch for six yards on five targets in San Francisco's Week 17 win over the Rams.

Swain was responsible for four of Alex Smith's 10 incompletions in an inefficient performance. With Williams and Ginn now having two more weeks to heal up after the 49ers clinched the NFC's No. 2 playoff seed this afternoon, Swain may not even be active for the Divisional Round. Signed in early October, he made two catches in five games this season.

Coordinator Greg Roman suggested Thursday that Brett Swain could start opposite Michael Crabtree in Week 17.

Kyle Williams (concussion) and Ted Ginn (ankle) both missed a second straight practice, leaving their status in question for the season finale. Swain would be no more than a desperation fantasy play at St. Louis on Sunday.

Beat writer Matt Maiocco confirms that Brett Swain is not expected to have an offensive role in Sunday's game against the Lions.

Ted Ginn will be the No. 2 receiver and Kyle Williams will be the No. 3. Swain is expected to be active for a special teams role and insurance. There's no upside in using any of the 49ers' wideouts in fantasy.

49ers signed WR Brett Swain.

Swain isn't practice squad eligible as he played all 16 games with the Packers as a fifth receiver and special teamer last season. He'll play a similar role in San Francisco behind Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn, and Kyle Williams. It seems that the Niners have opted against signing T.J. Houshmandzadeh or Chris Chambers.

Packers waived WR Brett Swain.

Swain was active for all 16 games a season ago, but notched just six catches for 72 yards, playing primarily on special teams. Swain's chances of being a contributor this year went out the window when Green Bay drafted Randall Cobb and re-signed James Jones.

ESPN.com NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert expects Brett Swain to get a "long look" in training camp if James Jones departs via free agency.

Primarily a special teamer to this point, Swain would climb up to fourth on the depth chart without Jones. We wouldn't hold out any hope for fantasy value. The Packers will likely pick up a mid-round receiver to groom as Jones' replacement.

Packers placed WR Brett Swain on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.

The Packers haven't detailed the severity of the injury, but it appears to be a torn ACL. Swain appeared in four games this season without recording a catch. Though he Packers were high on the 2008 seventh-rounder, the injury will hurt his chances of sticking next season.

Packers WR Brett Swain injured his knee while covering a kickoff in the second quarter Sunday and did not return.

Swain is scheduled for an MRI on Monday. When asked if he could have torn his ACL, Swain said, "It could be, I don't know." The Packers are already without Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley due to knee injuries.

In a surprise move, Brett Swain made the Packers over Ruvell Martin.

The Packers chose to go with Swain's upside over Martin's consistency. Swain will focus on special teams for the most part this year, but could be a name to keep an eye on down the line in the Packers' potent passing attack.

Packers signed WR Brett Swain, CB Joshua Abrams, WR Jake Allen, DT Fred Bledsoe, P Durant Brooks, C Brennen Carvalho, and WR Lorne Sam to reserve/future contracts.

Swain, Green Bay's seventh-round pick in 2008, isn't in a good place to be for wide receivers. He'll probably spend another year on the practice squad.

Packers selected WR Brett Swain with the No. 217 pick in the NFL Draft.

The San Diego State product is trying to break into the deepest receiver group in the league. He'll hope to make the practice squad.
