Peyton Hillis (foot, ankle) has been out of practice for more than two weeks.

Hillis is in a battle with Michael Cox and Kendall Gaskins for the third running back spot behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. He won't win the job without getting back on the field soon. The painfully slow Hillis has averaged 3.58 YPC over his last 319 NFL carries.

Peyton Hillis (foot, ankle) is hoping to resume practicing by Monday.

He'll need to in order to ensure his roster spot. Provided he can get healthy, Hillis is ticketed for No. 3 duties behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. Hillis averaged an anemic 3.4 yards across 73 carries for the Giants last season. The G-Men could ultimately opt to replace him with a free agent.
Aug 14 - 5:31 PM

Peyton Hillis (ankle, foot) will be sidelined for "a while."

It sounds like more than just a minor sprain for the reliable yet painfully slow Hillis, who was ticketed for third-string duties behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. With David Wilson (neck) done and now Hillis sidelined, the Giants are going to need to add a back to their 90-man roster.
Aug 6 - 12:18 PM

Peyton Hills was the third back through the Giants' rotation in Sunday night's Hall of Fame game.

As Rotoworld rookie Ray Summerlin put it, "Hillis looks old." The NY Daily News recently projected Hillis as Rashad Jennings' backup, but there's little doubt Andre Williams is that guy, perhaps to the extent of a full-blown RBBC. Williams is a far superior Jennings handcuff who could provide standalone value. Hillis isn't worth a roster spot even in the deepest leagues.
Aug 3 - 9:47 PM

The Daily News projects Peyton Hillis as Rashad Jennings' direct backup.

David Wilson's career is in jeopardy, Andre Williams' pass-game woes are showing up and Michael Cox is a borderline NFL talent. It leaves the reliable but painfully slow Hillis as the next man up. The former Madden cover boy was getting some first-team reps in Thursday's practice.
Aug 1 - 7:53 AM

Giants RB Peyton Hillis has missed a few OTA practices with a minor muscle strain.

Hillis does not expect to miss much time and could return as early as minicamp. This setback is not a good development for Hillis, who may be fighting for his roster spot during training camp. If David Wilson is healthy, Hillis will enter 2014 as at best the No. 4 running back in New York.
Jun 12 - 9:09 PM

The Newark Star-Ledger believes Peyton Hillis' roster spot is in jeopardy.

The Giants drafted fellow big back Andre Williams in the fourth round after giving him a second-round grade. Hillis inked a one-year deal to re-up with the G-Men back in March, but it included just $100,000 guaranteed. Rashad Jennings, Williams, and David Wilson are penciled in as the Giants' top three backs.
May 13 - 8:51 AM

Peyton Hillis' contract with the Giants only contains $100,000 in guaranteed money.

Hillis' deal was reported as two years and $1.8 million, but that means very little. He's going to have to earn a spot on the team at training camp, something he's no lock to do with the Giants adding Rashad Jennings and showing interest in other backs. Hillis averaged just 3.4 YPC last season on 73 totes.
Mar 12 - 11:02 AM

Giants re-signed RB Peyton Hillis to a two-year, $1.8 million contract.

Hillis, 28, signed off the street last year and rushed for 247 yards with two TDs on 73 carries (3.4 YPC), appearing in seven games and starting one. He should be viewed internally by the Giants as no more than an insurance policy. Hillis is a plus pass blocker, but offers no big-play ability as a runner, is in decline, and has a history of fumbling problems. He's an uninspiring re-signing.
Mar 11 - 10:33 AM

The NY Daily News is "hearing" the Giants will re-sign free agent Peyton Hillis to a two-year contract, "probably today."

The G-Men just need bodies in the backfield with Andre Brown's contract up and David Wilson's (neck surgery) Week 1 availability uncertain. It would've been nice to see them aim higher than Hillis, however. He's an oversized plodder.
Mar 11 - 9:16 AM

Peyton Hillis rushed 17 times for 56 yards and caught one pass for six yards in Sunday's Week 17 win over the Redskins.

Andre Brown lost a first-half fumble and was promptly benched. It was another chance for Hillis to take advantage of an unexpected opportunity, just as he did as he came off his couch to sign with the Giants in the wake of injuries to David Wilson and Brandon Jacobs. Considering the circumstances, the former Madden cover boy did well to rush 73 times for 247 yards (3.38 YPC) with two touchdowns and catch 13 passes for 96 yards in seven games. The impending free agent should have at least earned a look in someone's camp come next August.

Peyton Hillis (concussion) is listed as probable for Week 17.

Hillis will serve as Andre Brown's backup against Washington.
Fri, Dec 27, 2013 01:38:00 PM

Peyton Hillis (concussion) resumed practicing Thursday.

He was officially "full." Barring a setback, Hillis should be ready to back up Andre Brown, who has also resumed practicing after suffering a concussion of his own in Week 16. A soon-to-be 28-year-old plodder with no playmaking ability, Hillis is going to have a hard time finding work in the offseason.

Peyton Hillis has passed his concussion test.

Hillis missed Week 16 due to his concussion, but has been cleared to resume practicing. He'll serve as the No. 2 running back behind Andre Brown if active for Sunday's game against Washington.
