Saints OLB Chris Chamberlain tore his left ACL in Friday's preseason loss to the Jaguars, and is done for the season.
Chamberlain was in the mix to start at strong-side linebacker. The Saints will now likely turn to some combination of 2011 starter Scott Shanle and Will Herring. A four-year veteran, Chamberlain started 13 games for the Rams last season, notching 81 tackles and two sacks. Chris Chamberlain and Scott Shanle are rotating first-team reps at strong-side linebacker in Saints OTAs.

On Tuesday, Shanle was the SAM backer in the morning, and Chamberlain ran with the starters in the afternoon practice. Chamberlain is a good bet to win out because he knows DC Steve Spagnuolo's scheme the best, and is nearly six years younger than Shanle. Shanle's roster spot may hang in the balance.

Saints agreed to terms with OLB Chris Chamberlain on a three-year contract.

He's reunited with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, under whom Chamberlain spent the last three seasons. The 26-year-old started 13-of-16 games in 2011, racking up 81 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and an interception. Look for Chamberlain to compete with Scott Shanle to start at weak-side 'backer.

The Saints will host free agent LB Chris Chamberlain at club headquarters on Friday.

Chamberlain will arrive Thursday night and spend Friday in New Orleans. He has experience with new Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo from their days together in St. Louis, and can play both outside linebacker spots.

The Rams have "been in contract discussions" with free agents WLB Chris Chamberlain, LG Jacob Bell, and P Donnie Jones.

The Rams are "early in talks" with Chamberlain, who was one of the team's better run defenders as a first-year starter. The coaching staff also believes Bell showed improved blocking ability later in the season. Jones was considered for the franchise tag at one point.

Rams WLB Chris Chamberlain played last year through a small fracture in his wrist and a foot injury that required surgery.

"The foot's fine," he said. "I had a bone spur — calcium deposit — on the left foot that had just been bugging me." Chamberlain started six games last season, but his best contributions came in kickoff and punt coverage. He was the Rams' leader in special teams tackles with 19 on the year.

Chris Chamberlain supplanted Bryan Kehl as the Rams' starting weakside linebacker Sunday.

Kehl's brief run of IDP relevance ended quickly as he took over for Larry Grant in Week 8. Chamberlain is better in pass coverage, but had just four tackles in Sunday's overtime loss.

"It'll be coach's decision whether he feels like I can contribute or not," said Chamberlain. "As of right now, I get the feeling that I will be playing." Chamberlain is valuable on special teams but isn't an important part of the Rams defense.

Rams signed seventh-round pick Chris Chamberlain to a three-year contract.

Chamberlain, a linebacker at Tulsa, was highly productive in college and even saw some action as a ball carrier on offense. His measurables are also outstanding. At 6'2/226, the Rams may try Chamberlain as a strong safety.
