Giants signed S Chris Horton to a one-year contract.
Horton went unsigned last season after being waived by the Redskins at final cuts. A seventh-round pick in 2008, he started 10 games in a rookie, but has made just 15 appearances since. He'll compete for one of the Giants' final roster spots. Thu, Mar 15, 2012 04:22:00 PM

Redskins waived S Chris Horton.

The Redskins were apparently too deep at safety to keep someone who has ended the past two seasons on injured reserve. Still just 26, Horton should be able to land somewhere else.

Redskins placed S Chris Horton on injured reserve with a right ankle injury, ending his season.

Undrafted rookie Anderson Russell was signed to take his spot. Horton's injury, suffered prior to the Week 9 bye, appears to be a high ankle sprain. A rookie starter in 2008, Horton fell out of the safety rotation under new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. He won't be guaranteed a job in 2011.

Redskins S Chris Horton is still not back to 100 percent after his 2009 season ended early due to a toe ligament injury.

Horton can run full speed straight ahead, but he's still having trouble with lateral movements. Held out of the team's first minicamp last week, he's going to start out behind Reed Doughty at strong safety.

Redskins S Chris Horton suggested that he may move to linebacker in the team's new 3-4 defense.

"There's no question," Horton said. "I know I could play linebacker. Put me down there, and I think I'd do a great job." What Horton doesn't understand is that he's not a skilled enough pass rusher to play outside 'backer, and not close to big enough to play inside. He'll return as the Skins' third safety.

Redskins placed S Chris Horton on injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in his toe, ending his season.

Horton lost his starting gig to Reed Doughty for a few games, but expect him to be back to compete for the position next season. Horton finishes the season with 37 tackles and one forced fumble.

Redskins S Chris Horton is out 4-6 weeks with ligament damage in his toe.

Horton could need surgery, which would put him out 4-6 months. He's surely a candidate for injured reserve. Expect the Redskins to sign a safety this week. Reed Doughty will take over as Washington's full-time strong safety.

Redskins SS Chris Horton has been benched in favor of Reed Doughty.

Horton won the job over Doughty early in the offseason and was expected to be solid in run support, but the Skins are giving up 127.7 rushing yards per game right now. "Reed's actually played better the last couple of weeks," defensive coordinator Greg Blache said.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn has announced that Chris Horton is his team's starter at strong safety.

The Washington Post reported earlier in the week that the job was up for grabs, but "it's not the battle that right tackle will be," said Zorn. Reed Doughty admitted that the job is Horton's and that he's concentrating on special teams.

Chris Horton and Reed Doughty are officially competing for the Redskins' starting strong safety job.

Doughty is fully recovered from the back injury that ended his season in October last year. Horton, better in run support, could see more early down work with Doughty coming in for nickel packages.

The Redskins are expected to employ a rotation of Chris Horton and Reed Doughty at strong safety this season.

This would limit the IDP potential of both. Horton is the better playmaker and run stopper, and should see the most snaps. He was burnt in coverage late last season, however, and could lose time to Doughty in the nickel set.

Redskins declared S Chris Horton (shoulder) and T Jon Jansen (knee) out for Sunday's game.

No surprise with either player. Washington is playing without both starting tackles, which will hurt their passing game.

Redskins SS Chris Horton (shoulder) is not expected to play in Week 15. Officially, he is listed as doubtful to face Cincinnati.

Horton, a run-stopping safety and a ballhawk, has a stinger and will be replaced by Mike Green. The loss would upgrade Cedric Benson's matchup if Benson could get into opponents' secondaries. But he can't do it.

Chris Horton left his Sunday Night game with a shoulder stinger and did not return.

After he left the game he went to the x-ray room, which is never a good sign.

Redskins SS Chris Horton is due back from his ankle injury in Week 9.

He was listed as probable for Week 8, but didn't play and Mike Green started at strong safety. Horton should get a lot of tackle chances against Pittsburgh.
