ESPN Chicago reports the Ravens are "expected to sign" free agent QB Caleb Hanie.

Hanie, 28, spent last season as a weekly inactive behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler in Denver. He was released last month. Hanie saw the most extensive action of his career with the Bears in 2011. He started four games down the stretch with Jay Cutler injured and threw three touchdowns and nine interceptions, killing any chance Chicago had at the playoffs.

Broncos released QB Caleb Hanie.

Hanie was signed by the Broncos last offseason to be the No. 2 quarterback behind Peyton Manning, but rookie Brock Osweiler beat him out for the job. He's a mediocre talent, and there was no chance Denver was going to pay him the $1.375 million he was due.

Broncos re-signed QB Caleb Hanie.

The Broncos just released Hanie on Saturday, but always intended to bring him back after Week 1. The maneuver prevents Hanie's 2012 salary from becoming guaranteed. It's unclear if Hanie or rookie Brock Osweiler is Peyton Manning's primary backup, but our best guess would be Hanie.

Broncos released QB Caleb Hanie.

Hanie was released before Week 1 so that his $1 million salary would not be guaranteed. He is expected to be re-signed next week. Rookie Brock Osweiler will be the No. 2 quarterback on Sunday night. Defensive tackle Sealver Siliga was signed from the practice squad to take Hanie's roster spot.

No portion of Broncos QB Caleb Hanie's two-year, $2.25 million contract is guaranteed unless he makes the final 53.

Hanie appears unlikely to beat out rookie Brock Osweiler, so he's battling Adam Weber for one spot, for now. The Broncos could also make a move for a more capable veteran before the season. Weber still has practice squad eligibility.

Caleb Hanie was "clearly" the No. 2 QB as the Broncos kicked off training camp Thursday.

It's worth noting because Adam Weber closed out minicamp ahead of Hanie in the beat writers' eyes. With Brock Osweiler locked into the developmental role, Hanie and Weber are battling for one roster spot.

Broncos agreed to terms with QB Caleb Hanie on a two-year contract.

Denver was Hanie's lone free agent visit. While he'd flashed promise in preseasons past, Hanie went 0-4 in spot starts for the Bears last season and was benched for street free agent Josh McCown. The Broncos shouldn't be done adding QB talent with Hanie and Adam Weber on the roster behind Peyton Manning. Look for a mid- to late-round pick on the position in April's draft.

The Broncos are "aggressively chasing" free agent QB Caleb Hanie.

Vying with Tyler Palko as the worst quarterback to step on an NFL field last season, Hanie would be Peyton Manning's backup. It's an extremely odd choice considering Manning's fragile health and the fact that the Bears doubled down on backups this offseason after being stung by Hanie's terrifically poor play. The Broncos have splurged elsewhere in free agency, however, and must go cheap on what could be a highly critical roster spot.

The Broncos will talk to free agent QBs Caleb Hanie and Billy Volek about backing up Peyton Manning, according to the Denver Post.

ESPN Chicago reports Hanie will visit the Broncos on Wednesday, and Volek is already in Denver to meet with the club. A local product from Colorado State, Hanie was banished from Chicago after a disastrous four-game stint that took the Bears out of playoff contention last season. He's not much of a "Plan B" for John Elway's Broncos.

ESPN Chicago confirms the Bears will move on from free agent QB Caleb Hanie.

Hanie wrote his ticket out of town when he faceplanted in four late-season starts in place of Jay Cutler, effectively killing the Bears' playoff chances. The Bears are expected to pursue a more high-profile insurance policy for Cutler.

Coach Lovie Smith identified backup quarterback as a priority this offseason.

"We need to get ourselves in a better position at the backup quarterback position," Smith said. "We have a lot of options out there." The Bears will be moving on from free agent Caleb Hanie, and they can do better than Josh McCown as the No. 2 QB.

The Bears are expected to move on from free agent backup QB Caleb Hanie this offseason.

Hanie flashed promise in previous preseason action and kept the chains moving in Chicago's 2010 playoff loss to Green Bay, but he couldn't have played worse in four late-season spot starts. Hanie isn't going to draw much interest on the open market after turning the ball over nine times, taking 19 sacks, and losing all four games. He completed 51-of-102 passes in 2011.

Caleb Hanie is working behind rookie Nathan Enderle as the Bears' third QB in Week 17.

Hanie produced an 0-4 record with a 50.0 percent completion rate, 3:9 TD-to-INT ratio, and 41.8 passer rating in four disastrous starts for the Bears. A free agent in 2012, he's gone from potentially competing for a starting job to likely settling for a No. 3 gig.

Coach Lovie Smith said at his Monday press conference that "right now" Caleb Hanie remains the Bears starter, but admitted a change has not been ruled out.

"None of those decisions have been made," was Smith's response when pressed on who would be under center against the Packers. Smith also said he's refusing to rule out Jay Cutler and Matt Forte for the season, suggesting the Bears are holding out hope Cutler could return this week. Even if Cutler can't go on Christmas, Josh McCown is likely to get the nod over Hanie.
