Bills signed K Dan Carpenter.

Carpenter was scheduled to work out for the Browns after the Bills. The 27-year-old has spent time with the Dolphins, Jets, and Cardinals over the past three weeks. Bills rookie kicker Dustin Hopkins injured his groin in Monday's practice, which explains Buffalo's sudden need. The Bills could end up placing Hopkins on injured reserve, or Carpenter will fill in until Hopkins is ready.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills plan to sign free agent K Dan Carpenter.

It's an indictment of rookie Dustin Hopkins, who was the 177th overall pick in April's draft. The Browns had also shown interest in 27-year-old Carpenter.

Free agent kickers Dan Carpenter and Billy Cundiff will work out for the Browns Tuesday.

The Browns cut both Shayne Graham and Brandon Bogotay on Saturday, leaving them without a kicker on the roster. Carpenter is the favorite to win the gig.

They're sticking with Jay Feely. Carpenter, 27, drew fairly significant interest following his release by the Dolphins and could resurface quickly.

Cardinals agreed to terms with K Dan Carpenter on a one-year contract.

Carpenter was released by the Dolphins last week in favor of the younger, cheaper Caleb Sturgis. Now he'll try to beat out veteran Jay Feely. Feely has been strong over the last three years, going 68-of-79 (86.0 percent) on field goals. That includes a 5-of-7 mark from 50+ yards out. Feely did miss a 30-yard attempt in the last preseason game, which coach Bruce Arians deemed "unacceptable."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent K Dan Carpenter "already has work waiting" for him, but he's waiting for his wife to deliver the couple's first child.

As of Thursday, Carpenter's wife was three days past due. The longtime Dolphins kicker was released by Miami on Wednesday, and Schefter reports the Packers, Seahawks, Bucs, Browns, and Jets are teams "likely" to have interest.

Dolphins released K Dan Carpenter.

The move elicited wows and whoas on Twitter, but it was a fait accompli after the Dolphins used the No. 166 pick on Caleb Sturgis. Teams simply don't draft kickers they don't plan to start. Carpenter has a big leg, but missed two games each of the past two seasons after shanking 11 kicks in 2010. Being injury prone is a quick way for a kicker to lose his roster spot. That being said, Carpenter will be one of the first phone calls kicker-needy teams make this season.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland confirmed Dan Carpenter and fifth-round pick Caleb Sturgis will be in a training camp battle at kicker.

Sturgis is the heavy favorite because teams don't draft kickers they're not planning to keep. Ireland anticipates a "pretty good competition in camp and we look forward to that." Carpenter went 22-of-27 on field-goal attempts in 2012.

Per the Palm Beach Post, Dolphins K Dan Carpenter's roster spot is "at risk."

Carpenter, 27, made 22-of-27 field goals last season, but a couple of the missed attempts led to losses. The Dolphins are reportedly "high" on two draft-eligible kickers in Florida's Caleb Sturgis and Florida State's Dustin Hopkins. The Dolphins could save $3 million against the cap by cutting Carpenter.

The Dolphins are leaning toward adding another kicker to compete with Dan Carpenter.

Carpenter is owed $2.7 million, pricey for a kicker who's missed at least five field goals in each of the past three seasons. Cutting him would create $2 million-plus in cap space. Restructuring Carpenter’s contract is another option. The only kickers who presently have a higher salary are Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski ($3.8 million) and San Francisco’s David Akers ($3 million).

Dolphins placed K Dan Carpenter (groin) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It's the second straight season that Carpenter has been hampered by a groin injury. He's converted 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) field goals this season, right in line with his career mark of 81.9 percent. Carpenter enters the final year of a four-year, $8 million contract in 2013.

Dolphins K Dan Carpenter (groin) was limited in practice on Thursday.

A Thursday morning report said Carpenter was ready to resume kicking, so it's likely he's just being eased back in after sitting out the past two weeks. Fill-in Shayne Graham was waived Wednesday, so the odds Carpenter are not active this weekend are low.
